There's a guy at the thrift store I go to every day. At first I was annoyed. We were competing to grab video game stuff. Started talking to him and now we watch out for each other. He typically avoids dvds, cds, and toys - I typically avoid electronics. I've even walked in after he's been there 30 minutes and he hands me bags of toys he held for me. Life's about relationships, ya'll.
Hahaha same with me. We go to the same goodwill and I showed this woman the google lens so she was all excited. I do pretty much a bit of everything, not much on video games and electronics:) she does pick those things up and toys/games. So when I find things I think she will sell I save them for her :) no need to be hostile-there is enough inventory for everyone y’all!! ❤️
I work as a clerk for an auction company. I see competition all the time. Guys running each other up on bids unnecessarily. I have been kind and actually gotten a lot of great tips from some "bigger" Ebay sellers than myself. Every once in a while they even "let me win" a great item. 😊 Kindness is the best!!!
100 percent, Josh. I have a guy here I know well ... we have a friend in common that taught us reselling and got both of us started, him long before me. And more than get along, he watches my videos and now picks up things specifically because I've taught him stuff to pick up he didn't know about before. And he'll text me when he sees something he knows I'm interested in - he's even bought something FOR me from the thrift, then brought it to my house and I've paid him a few bucks extra for it. Total win-win. Plenty of sellable stuff for all of us out there.
I just found you on here less then a month ago- now Sept, and I love watching you and your wife go to Goodwill and yard sales. What cracks me up the most is how you "pat" Mose on top of his head. Love that dog. 🥰
When I started selling on eBay 10 years ago, there wasn't nearly the competition that the is now. Funny thing is, I make way more money now selling on eBay than I did back then. The reason? I've learned and grown from the help of other resellers. If you're helpful and friendly to your competition you gain from it as well. Great video!
Also: if your reseller friend is into a different market, I usually snap a pic and send it to him, and buy stuff for him, and he for me. (vintage audio vs computers)
I’m not big into being friendly with local competing resellers. Especially in a rural area there’s only so many decent items. I take the same approach as Michael Jordan. I take it personally and that motivates me to be the best.
When I go to the bins, there is always lots of competition. But, it’s okay because everyone is looking for something different. There are a few of us that know each other. When we find something another might like we let them know. It’s an all day thing. We bring in food and all hang out in the same area. And sometimes talk about what we found.
There's a friend locally that I've known for many years, and if I pull up to a yard sale or thrift and see him with something good that we both sell even though I didn't get it I'm glad he did instead of someone else and he feels the same towards me. He deals more in toys and shoes than I do and I deal more in media and sports cards so we watch out for each other on stuff.
Tons of resellers in my area, I don’t even worry about them. I compete against myself and it’s worked out good for me. I’m 17 grossing $1000+ ish a week. I always strive to better myself every day, and just compete against myself😁
The only place I run into real competition is at the bins. In reality, I look for different stuff than most people. Around here, the bins regulars are looking for home runs constantly (band tees, etc.). I look for high margin items. Last time I found an actual Australian duster laying in a bin picked over by everybody. It's worth $150! I know they laugh when I look through bins they've already attacked ( I mean attacked, I've seen them push old ladies out of the way), but I always find high margin stuff left behind. Of course it helps to watch guys like you to find items that most just don't know about. Thanks!
My local competition and I source together. I’ve been calling him about good deals for years and this past year when I decided to get back into eBay he has been super supportive! There’s enough to go around.
I liked your ideas on "Coop-e-tion" with fellow resellers, The "draft" idea is way cool. As I think you know I live in the Philippines, a very poor country. Every week before our trash pickup truck comes, a group of "bote" boys "cruise" the neighborhoods asking people for glass bottles, empty tin cans, cardboard, scrap paper and such. After lunch, these guys all get together on a certain corner and layout all their "haul" for the day and "horse trade" with each other to equal out their ake before they go to the scrap dealer to sell their weekly take. It's been working that way for a hundred years or more, so it can't be too bad of an idea. Good picking and good sales.
I totally agree with the idea of being friendly towards people in your same line of work. In this case reselling, a single person can’t hit every garage/estate sale or thrift store. There is stuff out there for everyone. Plus, not everyone sells the same thing, so knowing others and reaching out to them when you find something in their niche means they are more likely to do the same for you if they find something in yours. Life is too short to constantly be competing.
Definitely getting to know competition. I've done that when I had my own Drywall/Painting business. I just enjoy learning/talking, and hanging out. Their's a huge since of positive pride/brotherhood in the same trade. I think the biggest thing when I was doing new construction was letting each other know if a Contractor didn't pay or was always late paying.
Congratulations 👏 100000. Been watching you since you started. You are amazing! I always look forward to your videos. Have a Blessed Weekend. Happy Easter
I agree with you on local resellers. I have made some great friends and acquintances locally. I met up with one last week at a sale. The first thing she said to me was "I saved you the scrub section because that's your favorite." And i have done the same for her with athletic wear. I love the idea of spreading out and conquering also!
I love this video. There is definitely enough wasted in this country where we will never run out of things to sell and to have a closed door mentality helps no one. I have been helping a young guy I use to work with get started and have had friends that know what I do asking why I would train my competition. Easy, I don’t see him as competition 🤷🏼
Love the Drone footage man, good stuff!! We need to ask @theflippingaccountant if we can write off the golf trips as "golf club testing". We need to make sure every club works properly right? Congrats on hitting 100k, keep on hustling!!!
Well, it might work if you all have a niche you're feeling more comfortable selling. Then you can help each other find more and better things. Also, you can do this as a competitive learning experience. I probably wouldn't do it regularly, just sometimes for fun.
I think the only place I could think that you could all go thrifting together would be a flea market mall or something similar. I have one local to me and takes a while to go through but if you had some friends could knock it out quickly. Just food for thought have a awesome day
I just finished watching this. Those things on the porch are so annoying but you had me laughing at hello 😂 Congratulations also on your HUGE TH-cam achievement. You deserve it. Thank you for teaching me for over a year now 😊
I agree with you, not thrifting with your competition. Sometimes I will text the other resellers if I see good stuff in the back that will be coming out later to give them a heads up. Great drone shots by the way! Now you have to get some drone shots in the Goodwills.....hahaha!
I found a swing trainer club was able to get like $30+ ship for it. I had no clue why it was heavy until I studied on it. I enjoy going to Top Golf when I'm out thrifting.
Great drone footage. :) My husband learned the hard way that it's a good idea to put some "If found, please contact" info on your drone. When doing those high up, far away shots, if something goes sideways, it might go down far enough away that you don't quite know where to look. If you at least have some ID on it, it increases the odds of recovery.
I love your attitude regarding competition! Well before I started reselling a little on the side I visited the New Hampshire bins out of curiosity (we don't have them where I use to live and I was passing through on a roadtrip). The staff were super sweet but warned me the "regulars" didn't like visitors and to hold my personal belongs close. Then when I was leaving the police arrived because someone had keyed another customers car. 😳😳 It really turned me off the idea of going back.
I’m in NY and can’t wait for yard sales to start up again. It is common here to have sales on Friday as well as Saturday. I’ve had them myself and Friday always proves to be much more profitable then Saturday. I guess it’s just the first day sales, but it leaves more time on Saturday for sale-ing!
I started reselling a year ago and it used to be less competition. I only have an hour 5 days a week to source and 3 months ago a fellow reseller got very upset with me for being in her spot. Since then I have received threats from her and she has been getting violent. She found out the only times I can source and will get there before me and source the store then stand by the back door waiting to grab into the bins to get anything worth value. I can't go any other time due too my son that is handicapped. She is retired and as she said "just does it for extra spending cash" and I'm just trying to make OT/speech therapy/medicine/doctors payments. Some people I don't believe you can work a relationship with.
I bought a super old bear up easton baseball bat for 2.79. Didn't list it for months thinking it was worthless but when I did it sold in under a month for 90 dollars free shipping to South Korea
Ahh nice video, similar to my lifestyle haha but i do disagree to an extent. I don’t typically yard sale but with that exception i go with a couple of my buddies to the same place together at the bins and there’s plenty to go around for everyone in my opinion. So even tho everyone’s there to make money obviously- i just feel like there’s so much to go around that you can still help eachother out and everyone wins
Great to see your drone footage! Very dramatic intro! Always a fan of your videos, and I’ve learned so much. Have you kept any of the clubs from your big lot for yourself?
Totally disagree with you on this one. 😂 I just think it depends a lot on the people involved, their personal business models. I DO love the idea of a divide-and-conquer for the neighborhood garage sales. But, I like company at the bins or yard sales, and I think it’s beneficial to have a partner. My daughter resells clothes, but she only gets thinks she loves, while I am more open to selling whatever. It’s good to have extra eyes and a second opinion. Plus someone can guard the carts while the other gets a break. I think we learn a lot from other people we shop with. My daughter tells me what’s trendy, and I tell her what brands were actually around in the 1990s.
I love this idea! I’m new to reselling but I hope to connect with others in my area. What is the best way to get to know resellers outside of your area?
Be sure you have your Part 107 commerical drone license if you are going to use your drone footage on your channel. FAA has cracked down on TH-camrs and fined those who dont comply with their friendly warning of need for license if making $ from flying a drone.
I won't mess with used shoes. Thats just nasty to me personally. And I won't go through any hassle to sell anything for less than 20$ plus shipping. Just not worth my time, however I don't rely on reselling to make a living. I get most all of my stuff free anyways. My client dies the kids generally say take whatever you want and give us a couple hundred. Last guy I took a 20s Ludwig drum set, 34 tiger's memorialbilia and old watches and already sold 3 grand in 6 days.no pressure, no hurry, no problem
Sourcing together all the time, yeah, that'd be dumb. Sourcing together just enough to learn from each other just enough to get different revenue streams is smart.
I really like the way you think about competition, it’s all good but when you work together you are so much more forceful... I opened up my store bc of Lavender Clothes line. When Covid hit, I was laid off and opened my store it’s been 8 months and doing great..🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
WOW, fantastic drone footage - what a perfect place to get it going! This is definitely one of my fave of your videos. So interesting, some business, some pleasure, some friends, some Mose-you rounded it out perfectly! Question, is it a requirement that your guy friends sport a beard? REALLY REALLY enjoyed this one.
Ahhh the perks of being self-employed! We can go visit grandkids whenever we want! Being retired from USPS after 35.5 yrs and then working another 1.5 years at a candy factory, I can truly say, reselling is a GREAT job to have!
Awesome Eugene! I like the freedom too, almost feel like I'm retired because reselling allows me the flexibility to work whenever I want and to pursue coaching youth soccer - which I love!
I meet so many resellers in my area. But they all sell clothes. I sell hard goods. So when they are all mad they can't find clothes. Im walking out with $600 profit after only spending $75 bucks. I learned real quick what not to try to resell in my area. And thats clothes and shoes. There are so many people that do that kind of stuff. It makes it not worth the time or money. I hit two goodwills today and spent a little over a $100 and I'm looking at $700 gross profit.
Cool Video. I agree with your idea on competition. Unfortunately, all of my competition is extremely old and cranky, or they are dishonest with their customers. Luckily though, I don't think I have a whole lot of competition in my niche, so I have pretty good luck.
On the same note, I do go garage selling with my brother in law pretty often. He is a flipper- But he flips much different items then me and he does it all local, so we have been able to learn what the other person is looking out for and constantly message each other about potential buys and whatnot.
Found my very 1st pair of Hoka's yesterday at a thrift store where all shoes sell for $2, but I had to pass because the rubber on the bottom was shredded. Hoka is not a brand that is found in my area very often. That is the only pair I've ever seen in years of thrifting here.
Any competition around me are all old and angry. Any attempt at friendliness or cooperation would result in suspicion or being taken advantage of. Our town has a third of the population of Columbia yet a fraction of yard sales, we'd be lucky to get 2-3 garage sales on any given weekend. With such a tiny amount of items on offer, there's no luxury of there being too much inventory on offer. Whoever gets there first, wins.
Yes it is. It’s more about who you know than how much you know honestly.
That works if you two dont get exactly the same thing. Glad you made a connection out of it
Hahaha same with me. ❤️
@@Panicatthejazz well im screwed then
How to deal with local resellers
Step 1: Buy them cheap
Step 2: accurately list them
Step 3: Ship them with vent holes for breathing
USPS is sexist. They say you can ship live chicks but not dudes.
Imagine one of these days you get home and the house is cleaned up lol

Absolutely! ... in early 2020 , 75 of us local resellers got together for dinner !
Also: if your reseller friend is into a different market, I usually snap a pic and send it to him, and buy stuff for him, and he for me. (vintage audio vs computers)
Love this take. Being kind always wins in the long term. Love that drone footage of the golf course!!
Funny seeing Moze in the background watching you while you film. Hes a good helper, lol 🐶🐕
Strong agree -- dont take your friends also reselling on your thrift/ yard sale route, recipe for disaster!
I’m not big into being friendly with local competing resellers. Especially in a rural area there’s only so many decent items. I take the same approach as Michael Jordan. I take it personally and that motivates me to be the best.
Same here. Anybody grabbing what I grab is the enemy

Great drone footage. :) My husband learned the hard way that it's a good idea to put some "If found, please contact" info on your drone. When doing those high up, far away shots, if something goes sideways, it might go down far enough away that you don't quite know where to look. I love your attitude regarding competition!
Beards not required but appreciated
Mose lurking 🤣😂
You just changed the TH-cam intro game! Awesome intro man, the scene and the beat was perfect with the landing.
You hit 100k subscribers so CONGRATS to you!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I see you'll be writing-off that drone and that round of golf. Nice job!.
Take THAT, IRS
it's crazy how much shed flips sells daily but they also have 2 people working and about 800 listings.
Love this cute dogster, so cute
Glad you had fun with the guys! Wyatt enjoyed his day “off” playing golf! From what I heard, I think he might need to practice more often. 🤣
He was better than I thought he was gonna be! I love a good challenge!
Found my very 1st pair of Hoka's yesterday at a thrift store where all shoes sell for $2, but I had to pass because the rubber on the bottom was shredded.
Hoka is not a brand that is found in my area very often. That is the only pair I've ever seen in years of thrifting here.
Congrats on 100k , more for your best buddy please
Josh, what do you normally shoot at golf?
Great job on that commercial for Lume👍🏽
Thanks!
What a killer thumbnail dude, that guy needs to be a meme
Whats good Caleb? I know that logo lol
Congrats on 100k Josh!!!
I second that!
