- On February 26, 2024, the Pakistan Air Force commemorated Operation Swift Retort with a video, revealing the JF-17 PFX fighter jet program, Pakistan's first wholly indigenous combat aircraft. Defense specialists argue the current JF-17 model cannot be enhanced further, and the JF-17 Block 3, a 4.5-generation jet, is not upgradable to fifth-generation standards, as upgrading from fourth to fifth-generation designs is generally infeasible. Despite these limitations, the Pakistan Air Force proceeds with the JF-17 PFX project, rooted in the JF-17 initiative, to replace outdated A5, Mirage 3, Mirage 5, and F7 aircraft. While the A5 has been fully substituted, Mirages and F7s remain active, as evidenced by their participation in the March 23, 2024, Pakistan Day Parade in Islamabad. These aircraft still serve in squadrons 7, 25, 27, 50 (Mirages), and 17 (F7 PGs), highlighting the incomplete transition.

In my view, only one more thing is currently required in JF-17 Block 3, and moving to a new block of PFX is the brand new and locally developed better and more powerful engine. The biggest challenge for any airforce today is dependency on the foreign supplied engines. A brand new and more powerful engine for JF-17 PFX will be a big game changer for PAF in its future requirements. This is my personal assessment and not based on any information!
True, but considering that China is the main supplier of Pakistan now, and would even give Pakistan the same quality that it itself uses and considering its big production lines, I guess it's not much of an issue. After all we're going through an economic turmoil.
I think you will have supply problems with Pakistan trying to please USA and setting up obstacles in China's belt and road program. No country is going to help you blindly especially when you are working against them with their enemies.

JF17 would markedly improve in its maneuverbility if it's engine is upgraded to the thrust-vectoring system. I saw that upgrade in a vedio on F16.

Pakistan Airforce you have done very well by building JF17. But now its time to move beyond JF17. To higher level. The all focus should be on indeginisation. Specially they should FOCUS on making our own Jet Engine. And move from basic RD93 engine to more powerful engine.
Pakistan should open discussion with Russia to develop RD93 engine in Pakistan. Pakistan should use all available doors/ opportunities to build local POWERFUL radars and beyond that Pakistan should also make their own SELF DEFENSE AIR SYSTEM. These modern wars cannot be won with foreign self defense Air Missile System. Pakistan Airforce should collaborate with ASELSAN (Turkey).
Ukrainian war is a good lesson. DEPENDENCY ON FOREIGN EQUIPMENT IS CURSE.

Pakistan has 230 3rd generation fighters it urgently needs to replace (+50 J-7PG and almost 180 Mirage 3/5).
For a country like pakistan JF17 with local production and chinese/international transfer of tech can reduce costs and replace this huge number of fighters to maintain conventional military deterrence.
Needless to say that most of the F-16s are reaching their life end also and it is too hard to replace all these kinds of aircraft knowing the economics of pakistan.
And they need to be replaced in 7 years.
The mix will be like some additional 150 JF-17s (50 Block 3 and 100 block 4) over , additional 36 J-10C (stop gap/interception missions), 36 J-31/35 (replacing the most modernizated mirage 5 strike fighters).
As for the F-16s, they will be replaced by additional next block J-31/35 or the TFX or a mix between the two starting from the early 2030s.
The pakistani program for the stealth fighter if ready will start replacing older JF-17s starting from late 2030s or early 2040s the soonest otherwise a licensed production of J-31/35 or upgrade of JF-17 to extand the life span for another 10 years.

Great Research done ! About JF 17 ! Its almost complete anakysis and a great one ! PAF has acquired J10 Cs recently and a deal of J22 with China is done as well. J10 Cs have been inducted already 28 of them . J22s would come by the end of this year and the latest Stealth JF 17 is also on board .

It's not indigenous because they can't give single technology inputs in this aircraft apart from assembly and painting. The whole R&D done by Chengdu Aviation China. JF17 have smoky knock of version RD series, untested Chinese avionics, Russian copied missiles etc on other hand India Tejas has 70 % indigenous components and has variety of Russian, Indian and western weapons. Chinese never engaged in real life air combat and their technology is never tested in real scenarios.😂😂😂😂
