28 years later I still make mistakes... lol
    Talk about hitch hikers..
Watching TV late one night my tank started to sparkle in the dark .
Took a look and a bunch of stars were out moving around and emitting light when they got touched by something.
Bio-luminescent serpent stars on a piece of live rock I bought earlier that day.
    weird stuff.

A very timely discussion thank you for this Marc.
My second reef tank. The first 90rr spoiled me. Every thing went so well.
Every tank is different, even me. I thought I knew better this time around. Oh no, I get to make DIFFERENT mistakes.

7 months in and my tank is still notnready for anything but softies, i tried putting a cheap birdsnest and it didnt last more then 2 weeks before it completely lost its skin and bleached. Had 2 hammers do a polyp bailout. So for now i guess ill just stay with softies i guess.

I want, and enjoy the long the Live streams. You dont have to watch it to learn- just listen AND multi-task with other project around the house, including reefing! Be like other productive and successful people who adopt this mental maturity.
    mic drop it, please.

You learn a lot more from the disasters than from the successes...and they're certainly more memorable. XD

A couple years in the hobby and for being a fan of the new tech/gear of reefing, being broke has forced me to be part of the patience and long term care of a reef. Long story short enjoy the vids and the commentary.

Aiptasia in any new tank is the GREAT equalizer. If the new hobbyist is not completely hands-on if one of these is introduced, the little critters will completely take over the tank and demand a complete re-set within a very short period of time.

Marc, I have a cheeky video topic request. I think a lot of new (and old) reefers look to the content from BRS for expanding their knowledge base. I'd love to know what you think of their content and recommendations - what you like and perhaps what you disagree with. I think some perspective can really help! We get so much information from channels like yours and BRS and would love some cross discussion.

@19:00 Im the guy with 1000000 vermitid snails... was caused by me getting an NPS, a carnation coral, and then blasting it with phytofeast. the few that i had in the tank turned into an exorbant amount and now im trying to figure out what to do bc my tank maturity is awesome. the water chemistry is really stable i have an acro dominated tank and everything is growing really well. not sure what to do about it. theyre starting to grow on some of my coral now so i need to do something.

I realized I want more sand in certain areas of my tank.. I have some reefflakes I've rinsed and is dry now. Ive added some already, but ...
If you had to add another 1/2 inch of sand to your tank...
    1. would you do it all at once or a little each week?
    2. Would you just put it on top or put it in then mix it with the rest as you clean your sandbed?
    3. Would you suggest puttin it in a fine mesh media bag and puttin in your sump for awhile to let it get good bacteria on it before it gets all that display light and the easier bad bad bacteria can occupy it?
    wwMRd?
    Thanks!

@melevsreef - I cant reach my vermatids and I can't take my rock out... I have ALOT...
What are my best options for creatures that will eat them? You said bumble bee snails? You mentioned hermit crabs also..I didnt know they ate them.. I have nassarius snails only now because i think my hermits were eating them, but i have big nasssrius now so maybe theyll be fine. I have a cleaner and harlequin shrimp as well. Thanks.

Funny you mention leaving pests “hitchhikers” on live rock and after a year the worst thing I think I have is bristle worms. Part of me is happy bc I’ve gotten to learn a lot about a lot of diff things but it’s been an expensive lesson but overall I’m happy with my tank results after a year

I don’t necessarily agree with the 4 lbs of dry rock per gallon statement yes it is dry and weighs less but once it does cycle it will have gained that extra weight and may end up being like 10 lbs instead of 4 lbs not that there’s anything wrong with that the more rock the better

我是一个Nano Reef Hobby。我有一个30L底部过滤槽的NANO REEF TANK(since2017),还有一个12L的背部过滤槽的NANO REEF TANK(SINCE2020-1-10用作TH-cam教学,有关于HOW TO SET UP NANO REEF TANK,以及维护)。
    希望多点广东话和普通话海水缸经验分享。没有蛋白分离器?没有造浪泵?没有滴定没有添加剂?没关系,简单下海轻松养海缸。NANO REEF微缸也有大乐趣!
