Great old German summer favorite of mine. Our family recipe is the same, I live seeing family come together like this.

Love the memories Mom use to make it with a lil lettuce dandelions radishes and leaves green onions. Man I miss it . She was raised in west Virginia. Glad to see people enjoy some of the old recipes.

My mom used to make wilted lettuce! That was so very long ago. Thank you for posting this video. What you made looks very much like what she used to make! I will be trying this out and I just know it will be wonderful!!!

My great grandmother taught me and she added a little sugar. And sometimes very thin slices of radish. So good.

I'm eating this right now. My mom makes it all the time. We are from Southern Ohio , West Virginia area. People were resourceful back in the day. All from the garden , bacon from the hog they butchered, etc. Good , fresh food.

Thank you so much. Such a great reminder of my mothers cooking! I remembered that we sort of had this seasonally BECAUSE the leaf lettuce was the only type of lettuce that we grew in the garden and of course green onions. These were some of the early arrivals in the garden so this was late spring and early summer at our house. I am going to try this with what the grocery store calls "Spring Mix" and red onions which happen to be what I have on hand. I had to laugh with you!!! Definitely done by smell...takes me right back to childhood. I am probably about your age Grammy and Mom is 81. Thank you again!!!

Absolutely love that. Brings back great memories. I haven't had it since my Mom passed but I will make it asap because it's the closest I've seen that looks like her's but maybe a little pepper flakes and a diced hard boiled egg mixed in. Then eat it while its hot. YUM!

My dad made wilted lettuce when I was growing up. I loved it. It's one of the few things I never got to learn how to make before he passed. I'm thankful I know how to make most but this is one I've missed for many years. Thank you for the video.

Try pinch of sugar in liquid serve lettuce over boiled potatoes. White vinegar is all I’ve ever tried. Yours looks delicious❤

This recipe is ancient in Appalachia. Every mountain home would serve this in the spring when the first picking came from the garden lettuce. Leftover bacon fat would be heated but I
think granny always used a little sugar along with the vinegar in her dressing. She would also cut up cubed room temperature cooked white potatoes in the salad too. Serve this along with
some pinto beans and cornbread and you have yourself a proper supper :) My family roots are in Summers County, West Virginia. Best we can tell the family immigrated to that area in
the late 1700's from Ireland. They pretty much stayed in that area until World War II when the war brought people out of those hills and hollers. They were rugged and self-sufficient people
who worked very hard to make a living.

Yep, pinto beans, cornbread, fried potatoes and wilted lettuce salad was the best of the best..onions, and little vinegar peppers for the beans.

I sometimes make me up some with a softer lettuce but I never was taught to use vinegar, gonna try it. We called it "killed lettuce". YUM
