I don't like the message that Geoff is pushing here...a lot of people will go out of their way to give complete strangers a deal in this hobby... but to turn around and make a profit off of someone's kindness rubs me the wrong way.... soon people will be reluctant to help people out... do it the right way and buy cards that appreciate in value...and then sell.

My brother got up to 20K plus flipping and selling at school, shows and flea markets when he was 13-14 (not sure of this kids age) so it's possible. His success was in 1993-94 so more like 30k plus in todays money. I think a lot of people thought he was "cute" so they gave into what he was selling or offering in trades. Not hard to believe a kid can flip up to 3k+ considering the high prices these days.

Doesn't relying on comp sales to complete deals make profits impossible? It should be a guide, but I don't understand why ever dealer seems beholden to it. You're not at the eBay store, you're holding a card in your hand.
Because if you can sell it on ebay for more money (even after fees), why would you sell it for 25% below that price, for example? You're throwing money away. As a seller, I am more than happy to go 10, 15, and sometimes even 20% below ebay prices so I don't have to deal with the time to list, ship, and risk the postal service screwing up or getting a bad buyer who screws you over, but it would still be moronic to not use every resource available to you to get the best deal you possibly can get. If someone offers me $500 for a card that is going for $1000 on ebay, by not checking, you are potentially throwing away $300-360.
Not by geoff but the kid that did the 3300 to 3400 flip did pretty good, happy for him. Already understands how to hustle and how to buy low sell high :) I remember doing that as a kid and it taught me a lot about business.

That kid made $100 on a $3400 card but your son made almost as much with what you bought. This the reason why I don't touch cards that expensive. You could lose your ass if that card falls or if you can't find a buyer.

In 2019 I was at a card show in the mall and he had $1 bin there were 70 lebron james upper deck rookies in there bought them for $70 and held them now thier like $40-$50 each

depends on player, team, how they’re doing. lots of different aspects. a /99 of joe burrow vs /99 kyler murray has a big price difference

He went off on his own, I had no influence over what dealers he went to. He has met Joe (the first dealer) before but he hadn’t met any of the others.
Flipping a card for $100 profit with $3300 out of pocket in 10 minutes is really not good. Way too much up front capital to make 3%
