MRI of the Neonatal Brain, part 1: the normal neonatal brain.

  • The brain of a newborn child looks very different from that of an adult patient. If you're not familiar with neonatal brain MRI, or had little exposure to these studies, that might be confusing and make you uncertain. A good understanding of what a normal neonatal brain looks like on MRI is important to be able to distinguish a normal brain for the age of the patient from diseases such as hypoxic-ischemic encefalopathy, congenital CMV-infection, leukodystrophies and others. In this video I'll walk you through the MRI-appearance of a normal neonatal brain during the first two years of life. In future videos, neonatal brain pathology will be discussed in more detail.
