After using the horrible Home Assistant, then Smarthings i moved to xiaomi Aqara + Mijia smarthome and it's the best thing i have ever done in my house. I got more then 120+ aqara/mijia devices including hubs, many switches and dimmers, cubes, ceiling lights, spot leds, motion sensors, aqara relays, smoke sensors, smart sockets, thermometers, light sensors, flood sensors, led strips, magnetic door sensors, smart bulbs, IR blasters, smart curtain motors and it's the best smart home you can get! Everything just works! Nothing crashes after updating.. 100% reliable and they keep pushing fw updates to old devices, adding more features and improving it. The best thing i have done in my house ever.

Also,, they all work great with Home Assistant. Just had to say that because "Oh, the Home Assistant" :).

I’ve been using the Aqara wall switches for a while now and they are really nice! Pretty easy to set up in Home Assistant, no stupid neutral needed and the remote switches are the perfect size to cover up the massive hole when taking out a nineteenth century Luddite clicker (take note, literally every other manufacturer!) And I think they look nicer than the touch ones, plus the click they make is both satisfying and helps those who can’t get their brains round not pressing a button. The kitchen is the only place in my home that I’ve not installed any yet, and that’s purely because I’ve still got to sort out the dodgy lighting in there - which means emptying the room above of everything, pulling up the vinyl floor, lifting up floorboards and locating the old transformers that have clearly blown.

Am glad you reviewed these I have 40 window and door sensors, 4 vibration sensors, 4 leak sensors, and 20 thermal/barometer sensors all on a conbee attached to home assistant, it's all working well so far. Worth noting that the door sensors temperature sensor on all our are off by 2-5 degrees so I ahve to do a manual adjustment on them all at some point with the home assistant configuration. Moes house light switches (ZigBee no neutral), their round ZigBee barometer and pir's are also worth a look I need more of the light switches but so far the ground floor has them in our place and they are great and work as a light in home assistant so you can trigger them to bring the lights on that circuit with ease.

My wife love the cube, and is a great control for here. We have it connected it to Deconz in Home Assistant. If the cube is shaken during the day, it tells our grandchild through the speakers to leave it alone :-D And in the evening it does the night routine, like turning off the light, locking the front door, giving her a loving goodnight message etc. :-) It also controls the dinnertable lights with double tap, and turning it etc. It's a brilliant way of control.
But regarding sunrise / sunset, the motion sensor has light sensor, and there are also light sensors available so you can actually react better than a sunrise / sunset :-)

One Question to the switches, I have not seen them so far. Do they still work if the connection to the server is down? Or Wifi is down?
Since I have a "Smart Home" @Home, I noticed how "not smart et all" it becomes without Internet and you got no way to turn the lights on and sit in the dark until your ISP decides you get Internet access again...

So I'm a home automation dummy newb. Say I have lights from Govee and Lifx, but want to use the switches from Aqara and the really cool cube thing. Do I buy the hub, the accessories, and the lights all work? And I'm assuming things like Flic switches won't work with these? Or will they?

  • @jammyb2008
    @jammyb2008 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Could you not use the automations in the Apple home app (sunset/sunrise) to control the alarm?
I have the older hub and use it as doorbell and then using Apple home and homebridge it uses the driveway cam so when the button is pressed, the Apple TV and phones get a notification and picture.
The next purchase is the temp sensors so can see the temperature in different rooms around the house. 👍

Hi Paul. Say for example I do use philips hue..what's the best way to start if I also want this. Would I have to run both hubs and both apps??

Hey Paul, do you have the model number of the switch. The link seems to only display the wireless model? I'd be interested to know how well the switch works with Hubitat without using the aqara hub too. Any ideas guys?

I love the cube! I use it for adjusting the volume on my 5.1 system, lol. Turn counter-/clockwise when the Aqara logo is on top, so much fun!

That's what a Zigbee router is for, essentialls almost all permanently powered Zigbee devices (bulbs, sockets etc.) act as routers: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zigbee

To get HomeKit to work you have to have an Apple Hub (Apple TV, HomePod, or iPad) and an Apple iPhone is not a hub. Once you have the Apple HomeKit set up with a hub, then you can control it with the Apple iPhone.
Since I have this set up in HomeKit, I use the Home app to determine geofencing of when I come home and when I leave. So I don't need geofencing in the Aqara app. But it would be nice to have it natively in the Aqara app if you only wanted to do all of your automations there.
I currently have 39 Aqara devices including 5 G2H Camera hubs, and 3 other hubs sprinkled throughout my house. I have 29 sensors (TVOC, contact, motion, water leak, and temperature/humidity), one wireless mini switch, and one smart plug (used for home/away automations).
I am planning on adding even more in the coming months.
They all work flawlessly in my HomeKit home.

So you are saying it does work with Smart things hub. If so you could use astronomic time clock on Smart things to trigger.

One of the draws for me to Zigbee through Aqara was my disappointment with a series of indoor cameras I tried to detect motion through my window of deliveries to the front door. Yes, yes, I know, the glare/reflective quality of the window stymie the whole detecting motion thing, but…. My plan is to use a motion sensor OUTside to trigger the camera to start recording through the window. Cameras I have or tried are the Eufy and VOCOlinc-budget indoor models. Do you think that setup is possible from within the Aqara’s app, Home app or some other clever mix of features and devices?

Good to see the aqara stuff is getting easier to purchase without having to result to aliexpress and waiting months.
I've been waiting for the H1 wall switches to become available.
Looking at the Aqara amazon store, currently, you can only buy the H1 Wireless switch, not the wired (no neutral switch) that you demonstrated in the video.
A tad disappointing as I'd like to do a setup very similar to how you wired up your living room setup.
