I addressed that very thing in the video. I said that it is against code to use Romex outside, even in conduit. It has been that way for many many years. It requires wire rated for outside such as UF-B cable and it has been swapped out to the correct cable since this video was released.
Yes, he addressed that early at 4:15 and again at 16:20, said he was going to have to put a junction box in the attic and run the correct UFB cable from there down to the disconnect, but it was "a job for another day."
Great first video. You definitely have the years of experience and knowledge for a how to videos on many DIY projects and job related work. Look forward to seeing and learning more.
I replaced my fan motor a few days back after they wanted to charge me 575.00 dollars. Four wires is all it had to disconnect and connect plus reverse the direction on the fan.. HVAC guys were ripping me a new one. took me 45 minutes to fix. Thanks for sharing Rus excellent video.
Great first video for your new series, cousin! You could actually show your lunch break in each show and give a plug for your other channel, too! You speak with authority and years of sage experience. Good luck with this new venture!
What were those fake cats on the lawn🤣🤣🤣🤣Rus, I'm a handy fella, matter of fact i can fix just about anything if I want. That said. You just taught me something. Nice job man. Looking forward to more learning!!
Thanks Randy, I appreciate you watching the very first one! You do know that you were the one that taught me a lot about electrical when you had your electrical contractors license way back when. I remember helping you rough in a few electrical jobs. Good memories brother!
If heat has caused the connections between the copper blades and the busses to swell and loosen then you may want to change out the box with a new one. As long as the circuit is protected with the correct size wire and breaker, then you can upgrade to a higher amp non fusible disconnect. In this video I installed a 60 amp disconnect even though the wire and breaker is rated at 30 amps. Hope this makes sense.
Hello Rus, great video and well explained except for one thing I don’t understand. You installed a 60 amp disconnect on a unit using a 30 amp breaker. Can you explain that because from what I learned and been told is that a disconnect should be rated no higher than the breaker it is using.
Yes, you absolutely can use a 60 amp disconnect on a circuit as long as the circuit is protected with the proper breaker which is a 30 amp in my case. You can always go bigger but never smaller. My disconnect is not fused, since I have a 30 amp breaker at the panel, but some disconnects do have fuses. If you used a fused 60 amp disconnect, you would have to use 30 amp fuses in it to protect the wiring which is rated at 30 amps. Hope this makes sense to you. Thanks for watching.
It’s been like that for many many years, so it’s not like I had to jump through hoops to get it changed out that same day, but just so you know it’s been replaced with UF-B just like I said I would do in the video. Have a nice day and thanks for the view. It really helps out!
Does code still require a disconnect if ac is installed within 6' of the breaker panel? I was under the impression that it isn't required. I ran 10-2 UF in conduit straight from my breaker to the unit. Thanks
I cought your FIRST video , you could bet your butt I'm gonna catch them all , like them all , comment on them all, you my friend are gonna get tired of my comments . THANK YOU FRANK FROM MONTANA. PS . I'm gonna tell both my son in laws about this new channel...
@@НиколайНиколаев-й5ц7м What if the wire burns out in the middle? If it did then new wire would have to be ran anyway. If it burned out at the connections then I left enough to take care of that. Our code does not require to use any more wire than needed to make the connections, even though I did use a few extra inches. The breaker is designed to protect the wire and prevent them from ever burning out. If you have made good tight connections and the proper size wire for the circuit then there should never be an issue. Only receptacle boxes require you to leave 6" of wire from where the wire enters the box, and this is not a receptacle box.
You have a good point. I should have watched the whole video before I made my comment. I am like you, I am 60 and have done a little bit of everything as well. There were no Tapcons when I was coming up.@@SkillSavvyDIY I am glad to see your videos. Good luck in your life!

Thanks I appreciate you watching! LOL, believe it or not, not once and that is surprising LOL
Was wondering how long can you run liquid tight clipped at 18" - 36" intervals along the exterior of a building?

@@oscargarcia6929 You bet, have a great weekend
Its against NEC to use NM cable in conduit outdoors. That paper liner will wick moisture right back inside.
You obviously skipped through the video because I discussed that very thing
@@SkillSavvyDIY yet you still did it??!?

The code states that a disconnect must be in sight from the condensing unit and readily accessible. Mine was neither of these but it is now.
@SkillSavvyDIY ok thanks. My breaker is within line of sight.
ROMEX IN A CONDUIT?
Yeah, I discussed that in the video

Почему провода без запаса в коробке оставляете?
А если отгорит провод? А запаса жил нет

Спасибо теперь понял. У нас в России запасы оставляют везде где нужно и не нужно)))@@SkillSavvyDIY
I love how someone used MC cable for the original whip. That stuff is not watertight, nor is it suitable for direct contact with the ground.
Yeah there was a lot of sketchy stuff about this wiring.
I always come in the bottom . I would have brought the carflex down and made a loop and come in the bottom left corner.
That short piece of flex I used will not make a 180 turn. Hard enough getting a 90 degree turn, besides it makes no difference
No NM wire in raceway No rating on romex conductors .
Minty repair

Temporary repairs are temporary, unless they work.
NEVER put connectors in mortar joints! They won't hold over time. You saw that when you took the pipe down.
Tapcons dig in very well in comparison to the original wall anchors that were originally used. The box it self was mounted to brick.
