I have the same product from Mont Marte. I found they really high quality and almost as good as the water soluble crayons. But one thing - these pencils have their tips covered with a layer of protective wax when you got them - which i scaped them off with my finger nails and then the pencils paint as very creamy and not waxy at all!

I didn't know Castle Arts had woodless watercolor pencils. I got a set a while ago but woukd have included these in my research. Of course my wishlist watercolor pencils are the Koh I Noor.

I love the Koh-i-Noor but I saw that they are preety expensive on amazon.com :(, I bought mine couple of years ago for less than 30 euros for the whole set, Hope you can find them somewhere cheap :D

@@color-dive The price is what is holding me back. I either have to justify them or get a good deal. I am looking for the good deal because I DO NOT need them at all. How do you like them and how do they compare to others?

They were gone for quite a while, but are back on their website now.

I find they work best if you take the color directly from the pencils with a wet brush. Then they are much more vibrant too.

I also found this to be true in practice as well. So I've been using the woodless ones for underpainting or a base to then go over with colored pencils. But the actual set of regualt watercolor pencils from Castle Arts are wonderful and vibrant and, for me, work well for underpainting and for just using on their own to do an entire picture because of their vibrancy. But yeah, as someone who own both sets, I absolutely agree with you.

Hi. I have bought these pencils and swatched on the Watercolour paper Sketchpad provided in the pack and found them to be of good quality. Maybe it was the quality of the paper in the book you used? I am a fan of Johanna Basfords books and her pages are usually good quality and look forward to using them in her books. These pencils may be more suitable for hobbyists who like to use watercolour pencils for their own art work.
