    I rly like how he actually uses the pencils in his sketches in order to give us a better understanding of how it looks

    I do always hope when I see some product I don't know, that it will be better than the ones I have tried. I really appreciate you saving me/us from having to try everything before we know we don't want them.

    Thank you for this video, your artwork is always so amazing. The one thing not mentioned in this video is the fact that Inktense pencils are not lightfast whereas the Creatacolor pencils are. I'm not sure if this is important when doing art in a sketchbook as it is more protected there but, I prefer the Creatacolor pencils to Inktense for this reason.

    Ha, that was interesting . Please do one completely with Inktense. Do u think using hatching lines and then dissolving in water will give better results in terms of color mixing and saturation ??

    My favourite watercolor pencils would have to be Faber Castell’s Albrecht Durer, followed by Derwent’s Inktense.

    I like using my fill watercolor brushes with colored pencils I like taking the color from the pencil at first to give a smoother more watercolor effect. I don't have any professional grade pencil. I use the prisma watercolor pencils and they are very pigmented and smother than this looked. My prisma's are very creamy when wet.

      I have the Prismacolor watercolor pencils, and while I think my Albrecht Dürer pencils are better, the Prismacolor are definitely artist quality.

    Since they gave you a red, yellow & blue it feels like the colors are not random. If they chose those colors I would guess they picked ones they were proud of and that yellow is not very good. It would be interesting to know if everyone got the same 3 colors but if I had them I think these might best to ignore the watercolor part. Thanks for showing us how they did.

    Great review, so helpful. I have used Faber-Castel watercolor pencils a lot. I have found that combining them with regular watercolor paints, at the same time, to be most effective for blending and for the final results. Of course, I’m not demonstrating them as you were, so I’m free to combine all I want. The FC watercolor pencils really preform, great pigment output. I have less experience with Derwent but I have used them many times. Their colors are far more muted and well suited toward nature landscapes. I was very impressed with the graphite pencil in your review. It looks amazing. Thank you!!!

    I was testing them in an art shop yesterday. They feel nice when used dry. Haven't tested them wet, but I don't see why I would use soluble pencils when I can use watercolor.

      Which ones? Caran D'ache has Fancolor, Swisscolor, Prismalo Aquarelle, Supracolor, Museum and Neocolor 2. Neocolor is a watersoluble crayon though, closer to Inktense. For artists Supracolor, Museum and Neocolor are interesting and perhaps Prismalo if you're on a tight budget. One problem though.... all of them are overpriced.

      @@christianetanzler4611 I know I've got a few samples of the Museum as well. The Supracolors are very good too, but still expensive. Recently I've come across the Royal Talens Van Gogh watercolor pencils. Very affordable, very good and the lightfast ratings are better than the Museum ones. I'm working on a review through my art channel.

    The blue looks quite decent wet, but I agree: they could be a wee bit more vibrant. Although, would it be a fairer test to compare them to Derwent's watercolour range? 😉 Or should they be able to hold their own against any water-soluble products?
    I wonder if a different yellow would create a better green mix too, though I understand that's a bit difficult to try with the samples you have.
    And lastly, off-topic, but that's a nice graphite pencil! 4B? I've been trying different brands to see which run dark and which are pale. You remind me that I have a pack of Cretacolor 4B clutch leads, somewhere, that never made it into a holder...

      @@Alex-wl9xw Hi Alex, for watertankbrush try the Pentel brushpen-set (small,medium,big). They have a stable fine tip, don´t drop water and painting with them is absolutely lovely. Watercolours (Mijello MissionGold and White Nights) I do just with them. Faber Castell isn´t good in brushpens. I am eastgerman, bought Faber, because they sold it in the store. Now my daughter got the Faber one.
      I have the woodless Koh-I-Noor pencils - watersoluble and normal and I LOVE them! They so high pigmented! Koh-I-Noor was well known in the GDR and is now much underrated!

    I'm glad you reviewed these, thanks! I've been curious to try them and glad to know not to put much money into doing so. I have lots of h2o pencils I use and like so it's good to see their performance against these. Faber castell Albrect Durër are great. I'm wanting to try some caran d'ache higher end pencils but haven't yet. I like working with different media but really haven't done much with combining them beyond pen and ink and watercolor combos. I have Inktense pencils and sticks, and the pan set, acrylics which I haven't used in years, Graphitone pencils
    and Artgraph pan graphite, and watercolors, liquid Hydrus colors and water based fountain pen colored and glimmer inks... Lots of inks. Also tombow brush markers and podcast. I'm looking for ways to use different media together. The inks would have to go last since few of them are water resistant. I'd love to see work that is more multimedia more often, or reviews of artists who use them in creative ways, because I do like the qualities of their unique properties but I'm just not thinking we'll about how to use them effectively. I love the way Paul Wang has very expressive use of materials but I'm just a little bewildered how to think more like that in my own work, which I feel like it ends up being stiff. Maybe I'm too stingy with my art time and don't spend enough time experimenting,and focus on completing a piece and making it a 'proper' composition.

    Teoh, you should try Faber Castell Albrecht Dürer watercolor pencils. The colors really pop when applying water and they are very soluble.

    Great review. You can not compare them to Derwent Inktense though in my opinion. Inktense aren't watercolor pencils, they're ink based. If you make a comparison it should be to other real watercolor pencils.

  • @hansendesigns
    @hansendesigns 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah but inktense isn't lightfast pigment so they're great if using in a sketchbook or scanner only. :)

    • @vwood2
      @vwood2 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately that’s true for some of the Inktense pencils, mostly their reds. But Derwent has a colour chart online, and many of the pencils are lightfast. So if you’re able to buy them individually, you can put together a very nice selection of lightfast pencils.

    I bought a few of theese open stock, and I do not like them at all. I got hobby level watercolour pencils that are better and cheaper. In my oppinion this is the worst art grade watercolour pencils you can get. They dissovle poorly, they have a low amount of pigment... Yea, I really do not find them worth my time nor my money. I stick with Faber Castell and Caran D'ashe.

      Same her, I bought a few of these, thankfully open stock, and they were not to my liking at all. The final thing though is what you prefer in your color washes, some people prefer more muted colors but I like bold strong color.

      I agree - I did a side by side analysis of Caran D'Ache Museum Aquarelle, Cretacolor and Winsor Newton's watercolor pencils. W&N was the weakest pigment. Museum Aquarelle was the best, almost as good as real watercolors. Cretacolor was just in the middle.
