I'm Japanese. Regardless of your nationality or race, you can be popular or hated. When I a high school student, I had a two foreign exchanged students.
My of them was a white, blonde boy from the US, and another one was a browned skinned boy from latin America.
The american boy was really hated because of his arrogance and the latin american boy was so popular because of his niceness and friendliness.
When was in college, there was a white, blonde girl, too. She was so popular and always stay with Japanese students.
There were popular Japanese students and unpopular Japanese students, too.
I understand if you are foreign students, it's harder to make friends but ultimately, if you are liked or not liked is depending on you personality.

Yesn’t I mean it’s easier if your the right person but it’s harder in a lot of other ways. But also it’s pretty cool cuz unlike the west not all girls are 304s let’s say, but at the same time it makes it harder to hit sooo take it as you will.
Getting to know someone is harder than actually getting to date them.
I went to my sophomore year in Hokkaido, and Met my girlfriend there. We go to the same US school currently

Exactly my point the Japanese education system only cares about tests and doesn’t give 2 shits about the fact that ppl talk differently, I was just saying that u can use both and he was radically against it
It’s funny, because in most Japanese schools, it’s an American English that’s taught, not the British one, as Japan was under America’s influence in the past (and still pretty much is). What annoys me the most isn’t even the “study this cuz it’s gon be on a test”, but a “memorize this and you’ll get full marks” type shit in all of their work. My school specifically (or should I say two schools that I’ve experienced in Japan) had Japanese translations on the test, or “explain this English passage in Japanese” type of questions taken from workbooks, which annoyed the shit out of me because how can you fucking learn English in GODDAMN JAPANESE. It also pretty much depends on the teacher, as in one school I had a wonderful maths teacher who explained not just what the formulas are, but how they appear to be and why they are the way they are, but in a second school my teacher just says “well remember that and you’ll be good” with no explanation whatsoever.
Anyway, sorry for the essay.

Maybe a little late for a comment but what about honne and tatemae behaviour? Is this a thing amongst high school students? I spent a year on a working holiday visa back in my 20s and this was kind of annoying. Especially if you could "read" it and knew that it's all a lie what the japanse were telling you during some conversations.
First of all no one uses those words BUT what u noticed is very true there’s something called “Keigo” and it might be perceived in such a way when ur talking to someone younger then u for example, so I just always tell everyone who’s younger then me straight up “don’t use Keigo when ur talking to me”
Also there’s no such thing as confronting a person so even if what ur saying is complete and utter sarcasm it would completely fly over their heads
