Now, I'm 68 and still using the memory skills everyday. I've had a wonderful life. I would add acronyms to your tool memory tool box; a gift from my time working for NATO. My memory is so terrible and the Drs blame it on my age!! I'm only 59! I'm not old I don't even look old! I'm disabled and in constant pain and I spend most of my time in a wheelchair! But this is going to help me I'm going to try it!!! Thank you Patrick! I love your show so much!! 💯❤🙏🇺🇸

This was excellent. I grew up in Colombia. I remember memorizing pages and pages of work and poetry every evening for homework. I remember memorizing all the multiplication tables in one evening. Every child did it. Every day we would get up in front of the class and recite the whole thing. It never dawned on us that it was not possible. I think this is the secret. It was expected of us and we did it. Everybody did it. It was rare that a child would make a mistake. No matter what teachers say, I can honestly say that this was an extraordinary tool that I used all the way through college. My friends used to call me the walking encyclopedia. It was only because I would remember exactly where the phrases were in the book, on which side or corner of the book and in which page. Recently I took it upon myself to memorize all the capital cities of the countries of the world. I met a girl from Oman and I said to her, “Oh, are you from Muscat?” She looked at me so surprised. She said yes as if nobody in the US ever knew where Oman was. That was the start of a great relationship! I feel the need to brush up on all this and might take this class for the fun of it. At 62 I can now do this for the sheer fun of things while keeping the mind healthy! Thanks for such an enriching show.

He has a great attitude. He doesnt show off, he doest try to sell himself and he is sharing his knowledge not keeping any secrets, honestly. He doesnt want to look like somebody special - but seriously this is a titan of work. Imagine only to remember to fluently bring back 999 images... how many names are there? And surnames to that? Or words... insane! He trully is perseverant and he believes in whay does. I have a book about memorising with all technics explained plus a lot of encouraging positive crap but he did a better job in a few words than this book on 300 pages. I will train this!

I was going through my father-in-law's old books and materials he was throwing away from back in the late 80's and 90's and I kept Ron White's Memory CD and book set. I believe in constant improvement and my memory definitely needs some work. I look forward to going over the materials.

@@51MontyPython It's been great! I teach a Bible study class and I was able to teach a lengthy prophecy with dates and events in approximately an hour. Everyone was shocked that they could learn and remember all that info inside of an hour. So cool.
I think it's also a god given gift, I can recall in elementary school the teacher having the students complete 50 times table problems in a 5 minute period.. I have always been competitive therefore I would always try to complete the exam before the rest of the class, so I started to do this thing which now I know as "photographic memory " ..my answers were always correct but I've never been that great at math, but because of my memory I used it to my benefit.. it really took alot of discipline when I moved up a grade and started having to show my work to the math problems. I started to remember what the "work" to the problem looked like and it became something i do to this day.. i can remember all the way back to 2 years old I am 31 years old this year

See, this is why most people are bad at Math.
People try to remember numbers and equations, but they don't turn it into a geometric picture.
Mathematics becomes easier and fun if you can learn to imagine the abstract concepts.
I know most Math books fail at this, since most of them just go straight to writing down theorems, proofs, and equations and giving you problems to solve using those formulas.

Very true. Eveb teachers and professors would say "word problems are the hardest" but I always found then easier because they actually paint the picture of what you're doing.

Never mesmerized my times tables Patrick I never knew how to memorize it I have never been to a house I didn’t remember EVER 😊💕🙏🏽 never put it together...
In 3rd grade we had rhyming songs for times tables I still remember to this day
Dominic O'Brien is another memory champion and he has a theory that because Chinese people have a language based on visualizing things as letters in their language, it trains their brain to visualize easily. Then they use their visualization skill to memorize anything because it is how they memorized their language. It's just a theory though.
Great video by the way, I love that you found someone like this and shared the great wealth of information of what memory training can do for you as a person.
I also want to tell you that memory is only a portion of what makes up learning. A book called, "Make It Stick: The Science of Successful Learning" teaches scientifically proven ways of learning anything and the illusions of learning too. They briefly (and weakly) mention memory but I think memory is a vital part of learning. But this book sort of fills in the technique of learning anything that most memory training courses do not cover. Take a look and read through the book a bit. I think you will find it's content enlightening to your mind.
This is same basic education as Memory Power. Which I purchased about 30 yrs ago. It certainly helped me pass tests!!!

I was failing Spanish but then I started getting interested in it then I started spending hours learning about Spanish and linguistics general eventually that facilitated me learning other languages. After all that hard work people started saying that I was just naturally good with language and they weren't 💪😓
That’s what I’m thinking too, most people who appear to have “talent” just work hard and get good and make it look easy. Most people aren’t naturally good at most things until they practice

Well, that is why this channel is called VALUEtainment! looks like our memory works like ZFS or simply programming language like C. It is enough to memorize an offset and not contents. Contents are already there!!! Extraordinary!
This is huge for health care! Got me through microbiology! Dr's have to use it. They almost don't have a choice.

A few years ago I purchased a memory course advertised on late night TV. I can't remember where the hell I left it!
I can remember 15 digit phone card numbers i used as a kid. I can not remember names. Phone numbers, use them once, never forget them. I have no technique. My brain just works that way.
It’s because you showed interest in to memorize it you’d be surprised how much you can remembering if you pay attention

I once tried these memory methods, i could memorize a deck in 10 minutes after a week of practice. I highly recommend trying.

I Have a FLAWLESS Memory and BORN WITH That Memory
Thinking about this reminds me of why people remembers lyrics to songs, they can picture the story of the song in their heads.
It also makes me wonder if old holy stories are just stories that tell a real event just in story mode so we can remember it. We have to remember before writing, people still had to pass knowledge down, a story would be the best way. We probably forgot how to decode the stories once writing came into play, but even then, if you have a system to decode written words, the story can still hold information!

And I was an art major(really good but certainly not natural..I was taught) I truly believe anybody can become proficient even great at anything if given the right mentor
I learned the mind palace when I was in my first year of college in a class called college success skills. We learned several memory tricks for learning information. I still use my house layout for memorizing things.
Hi Pat. Ron takes a more simplistic approach. He speaks about building a "picture" from the data to remember. That is probably his type of contextualising things for his brain to memorise. A bit more complicated, yet therefore more effective if mastered properly, is building a story, so "motion picture". But that I guess is mostly common for so-called creative mind. It is something like with an image and a sound - Michel Chion - the way we describe the image and the sound. The image is always described by basic words - nouns, adjectives and adverbs at most. The sound is always described as a combination of those words in action (verbs) - something like building sentences from words. Thus "if the image is a 1000 words, the sound is a 1000 images" - Michel explained this way the role of the sound in any moving image production, claiming (a doing so quite definitely) that in any video/film the image is always only a clue to what sound tells us about everything else that happens in the screen. Hence the ability to form various types of messages from the same image being combined with different sound. Probably Ron is the more right-half brain type of person (genetic predisposition), so he mastered the "picture" building. On the other hand Kim Peek is probably more left-half brain type, so he memorises in an artistic process of seeing and translating it to a motion, so he can memorise entire books and only seeing them once. Seeing is the clue word here, as he doesnt really read them, just watches the pages. How ingenious! Greetings from Italy!

What is fascinating to me is that the mind can remember how the mental picture correlates back to the word and those pictures/words can be remembered so much easier than memorizing just the actual Presidents names for example. Why do you think that is? Maybe because you have to create those images/meanings in your head so that makes them stick vs just some random string of info with nothing for the mind to loop/connect it to?
Nice to see a fellow memory athlete on here. Ron is one of the OG mnemonists that I know. He's also one of the best business minds in the memory field. I wonder how far along he is with memorizing the American constitution. Heads up, I haven't seen the full video yet. I just had to comment here.

Not the Ron White i was expecting, but still fascinating. One big thing I've noticed in my own life lately is how much my memory is deteriorating. Hopefully i find some key answers or suggestions in this podcast I'm about to watch.

I appreciate you sharing yourself with us because after I listened to you for about 5 minutes I can memorize like you. Just that lil point of assigning an object to someone's name worked immediately. I remember when we didn't have cell phones I had a phone book in my head. After listening to you I thought about how I can memorize a ph book. I can still remember those numbers and yes we assign names with numbers and I have a phone book in my head not in a book. Makes sense. Thank you so much, your awesome!

This is how id pass vocab tests in middle junior and high school. Id look at the word and definition and part of that word would attribute phonics to definition. So ham is a piece of pork meat...ha(M) MEAT trying to think of any but similar. .do(G) GROSS slobbering mammal) things like that all throughout words anything that triggers your memory of the meaning. Never really studied graduated top 15 percent of my class ...top 100 always good grades and was natural .I think this helped alot with many things and now I have to teach my son as he learns in a similar fashion overall
Learning a song is memory building. I self trained my memory for numbers, names, topics, situation awareness and prediction. Compartamental information storage in the internal brain cloud. It is mathematical for the most part. How many people can name the planets vs days of the week? Hmmm.
Thank you for coming on his show. Ron you are an amazing guest. And An amazing person. I’m so curious, I have been singing and playing guitar for a while now. Maybe 15 years. Why can I remember some lyrics to songs I have sang a few times and not have a problem remembering the lyrics, And forget song lyrics to songs I have played hundreds of times? And why in the world can some of my friends hear a song ones and sing all the lyrics the next time they hear it.? If I want to remember lyrics I have to literally sit down and read the lyrics over and over with the song. Why does it take me so much effort to remember lyrics while others can remember them so quickly and freely? From what I understand, from your interview, linking names and words would have to be linked with some type of image/picture. I get that. But again why can some remember lyrics so quickly with no effort? They blow my mind

Back when I went through Basic Training in 1987 (Army National Guard) I was taught "Be My Little General" also.
About 15 years ago I learned to memorize phone numbers by not saving them into my phone. I got tired of losing or breaking a phone and not knowing what the hell anybody’s phone number was.
I was also forced to memorize the Chicago tribune Sunday crossword puzzle, my handwriting had become so illegible it looked like a madman scribbled gibberish all over it, so I would have to do it all in my head.
But I did learn to memorize things like the presidents and the Greek alphabet just by rote. Be my little general, I’m not sure but I think that’s called a mnemonic, That’s a great memory tool.

I like Ron White, from my experience the method he teaches is complicated. There’s many memory masters, Ron white system is not clear.
It’s so interesting how you can use mind palace way to memories stuffs. Jordan Paterson also uses same way to memories everything, he talked about it with Patrick in his interview.

hey he brought up a good point - i saw that he said something that schools wouldnt use this because they want their students to LEARN and UNDERSTAND... what about when they need to memorize presidents or states and capitals? Plenty of other things they could use this to memorize AND ALSO still learn things the school wants them to understand. Hit it right on the head that it will accelerate the learning process, I am thinking you need a pro salesman and not a pro memory recaller to scale this. Can you imagine that once this is in place childrens grades are higher overall, isnt that ultimately what the school wants, to prove they teach the best and everyone needs to go to their school... you need to paint a picture that shows children being successful and also tend to the needs of the schools ego, money isnt the real issue over a class if its in the best interest of children.
