@Jason Dubya-DEEZNUTS to be fair when you get in a lot of discussions over who are some great guitarists, Larry's name rarely ever pops up. Usually to hear praise for Larry, you have to talk about Larry himself
Jason Dubya-DEEZNUTS I think some people underestimate their awesome musicianship because of all the humor & quirkiness they bring. I even heard Les say in an interview, “A lot of people think we’re just a joke band.”
Yes, he's loved by his peers, but you never see his name on lists of amazing guitarists. I've been playing guitar since I was a little kid. Nobody's style, rhythm, and lead runs have baffled me as much as Ler's. It's not even like I'm listening to a guitarist half of the time. It's not just because his bizarre effects. The scales he plays make so little sense written out, but when they are framed around Les's bass work, they sound so perfect. The guy's got an ear on him, that's for sure.
So true...I have a great appreciation for his contribution to the band. And yes...it's true...he doesn't get the props he deserves. I'm sure he's cool with it though...fame is highly overrated.

He plays this by plucking with three fingers to get that triplet sound. I tried to play this with only two. My middle finger and index finger decided to not move for a couple hours.
he is a legend at playing bass , of course, but i tell you that this riff in particular is kinda "easy" to play. all you have to do is to be able to not lose your time while playing three fingers style. u go like "tu-tu-tum, tu-tu-tum", one finger after the other (as if you were just playing with a finger instead of three). the real super human thing in this song is that bass tone, dammit!
i feel what you're saying cause i have the opposite thing, i'm fond of three fingers style and remissive to spend time to learn how to properly slap-pluck. but trust me, it takes a very little time to learn that rythm cause it's more like a natural thing to do than respecting a rythm. the hard part playing three fingers is to keep the time with the right hand (ex. playing in 4/4 with 3 beats, at the beginning it's pretty strange cause you go like 3 2 1 3 - 2 1 3 2 - 1 3 2 1). that riff does not require to be able to do so. you let your fingers fall, every note you play will be played with 321, 321, 321 instead of 2, 1, 2. i don't know if i've been clear and my english is not that good but trust me, u can do it
also, there's the "strange way", wich is playing it two fingers style and you give the third hit with the nail of the first finger by pushing it away instead of pulling it. 2nd finger fingertip, then 1st with fingertip, than 1st with nail pushing in the oppposite direction. 211 - 211 - 211
