My brotha, get a blow dryer and hit those stickers with the heat for about 30 seconds. They’ll slide off smoother than a duck’s 💩

I’ve heard this advice before, I’m just being cheap and lazy at this point. I wonder if a cloths iron will work? 🧻

    hi there, friend
nice book haul, especially the delany, disch, wolfe, and heinlien ones. sweet!
the book of skulls was NOT what i was expecting. what was i expecting? i have no idea. however, i was pleasantly surprised for the very same reasons you were. the writing was sterling. i've read silverberg before but don't remember him being such a wordsmith. the focus on characters was just the kind of thing i like. they were very well-written. i, too, was surprised to have a gay character so fully realized considering it was written decades ago. the ambiguous ending may upset some readers but i like stories that avoid predictable ending. now i'm eager to read and even reread some more silverberg. i recently bought a copy of dying inside which i read way back. i don't remember it at all so looking forward to sinking my teeth in it. you should get your hands on a copy ;)
not much to say about lord of the rings. it's absolutely awesome. 'nuf said
as always, good for you for abandoning books that are crap! small pleasures sounds like a big disappointment (see what i did there?). i love how you pass judgment on your dnf. you're absolutely right!
truman capote? i wonder if that book of yours has a christmas story in it. that's a capote story that is so damn sweet and nostalgic. it shows what a true master can do. writers today do not compare. at all
clarice lispector is absolute gold. she wrote one of my favorite books of all time: the hour of the star (giovanni pontero translation only though!). i'm pretty sure that i've recommended it to you but i can't recall if you have read it. if not, then get to it RIGHT NOW! ;) oh, i'm listening as i'm writing and of course you read the hour of the star. you better get it back. that book is worth reading again and again. all hail, lispector!
h.p. lovecraft? ugh. i can't stand his stuff. i've tried but i just can't. you make me wonder if i should give it yet another case. i respect your opinion and if you like it....
the description of the story about the boy that leaves the castle sounds like titus. you're absolutely right that there's nothing new. everything seems recycled. that's why the actual writing needs to be good. that and character development. if those two things aren't up to snuff, then the book won't be worth the paper it's printed on imho
too much coffee is absolutely brilliant...every. single. time. amazing
it's funny how animals speak different languages, isn't it? ;)
e.e. cummings poetry? yay! he never disappoints. such an original style too
keep writing! there's only one way to improve your dialogue-writing and that's to keep writing dialogue! remember hemingway said that if you write one page a day, then at the end of a year you will have 365 pages which would be a book. something to think about!
time to head out to work...
take care and until next time...
    cheers

      hi friend
The book of skulls wasnt what i was expecting either, i will read more of his work but theres so many other authors i have to get to first. (Delany, Malzberg, Shaw, Wendrei too name a few, damn you outlaw book seller lol ) dying inside sounds good, too bad it wasnt part of the gateway SF omnibus i got that i will show off soon.
i looked and the Xmas story isnt part of the Copate collection i have, I'll keep an eye out for it though maybe it's a free one i can find online. The complete Lispector came in today and it's not from the same translator and im worried, i did read the translator notes and it says it's the best one yet (but of course they will say that)
i got my Small Pleasurs book club tomorrow and already feel my blood boiling to discuss it and why i hate it and everything wrong with publishing now a days , i forgot to mention it was nominated for a goodreads award (not that means anything other then dont trust any award given)
Lovecraft did rip off a lot from Poe so maybe you're right to not read if you read all of his work? but making you want to read what i read is my job as a TH-camr so i guess im doing my job.
I just finished LOTR and I have a question for you do you think Frodo going to the undying lands is an allegory for him dying? Im a firm believer that JRRT didnt relieaze he was working through some of his own trauma when writing and was in denial.
talk about more authors i got to read more cummings is up there, im going to finish more poetry this year thats a promise. and more writing too thats some great advice for a page a day, ill keep that in mind.
thanks again for writing and i hope to hear from you next week
      Cheers⚔
p.s. those animals are plotting against us and we deserve it lol

@@PoorPersonsBookReviewer oh, i bet that lispector book was translated by ben moser, right? he's the translator that i don't like. but what do i know!
i hope you gave 'em hell at your bookclub about small pleasures ;)
ah, the frodo question....tolkien famously said that he didn't like allegory but it's hard not to see frodo going into the west as symbolic for death. let's remember that the malignant power of the ring was so strong it could corrupt anyone. its effects were long-lasting and one could never truly be cured of it. frodo was given a great gift as only the first children, the elves, were permitted to go to aman, the western continent were the valar lived. because sam carried the ring for a little while, he was also allowed to go there at the end of his life (this is revealed in one of the appendices). undoubtedly, at some point, frodo died there as he was not immortal and, hopefully, the corrupting influence of the ring could be mitigated so he would not be in such mental pain. i don't know much about tolkien's experiences in world war 1 except that he was profoundly impressed by the courage and strength of ordinary people and that it influenced him to make the hobbits the heroes of the great conflict between good and evil in the lord of the rings
looking forward, as always, to your next video. have a great weekend, buddy!

Don’t doubt yourself! I like when the writers keep you guessing. ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock” is good for that. The “lost chapter “ doesn’t add much. Yatsuba is cool! 🍢
