Hey there panel - I respect and I love your contributions but there's no smoke and mirrors here. It's simple really: Boks have 6 guaranteed games before a potential QF play-off. You are all highly knowledgeable pundits so you well know the risk of injuries in the 6 weeks ahead (see eg. Ntamack + V Poortvliet). Ergo: RassNaber name a fully fit in form squad and keep Pollard and Am squarely in frame as potential backline replacements under appropriate player management for if / when we lose players. The only snafoo here was Nienaber's use of the word "de-select" - clumsy and unnecessary. RassNaber are disruptors and calculated risk takers and they think ahead - Case in point: Acquiring Jean Kleyn and see how brilliant that was with Lood's unavailability. We'll be fine and we're set up for what may / could / will probably happen. Go Boks!
The coaching team explained that in 2011, the Springboks carried too many injured players in the, then 31 man squad. So much so, that at one stage, they only had 17 players training. They picked experienced guys and big names, but they couldn’t do anything. Not even in training to help prepare the available guys. They named these fit 33 as the squad so that they, as a group, can prepare to the best of their ability. I believe Pollard and Am will eventually be ready, and don’t think anyone is trying to keep that a secret. They also explained the 4 scrum halves, as a way to have two full teams train against each other. Again, as a way to best prepare those playing whichever next game. Only Jaden and Cobus are specialists 9’s as Faf and Grant both can play other positions. I agree that there are no mind games. Just a leadership group that understands what their players need in order to prepare to the best of their ability. Good luck to the AB’s, you guys are once again coming in Hot! We have our work cut out for us, but we’ll give it 100%! Such an exciting tournament! Let’s go Bokke
But they didnt dismiss or disrespect the Boks in the content. You introduced this Bok underdog narrative yourself, no one else did . Why would you do that ?
I sincerely believe that Rassie will eventually go down as one of, if not the best, rugby player/coach/managers the world has ever seen. The Boks may not win the RWC but they'll be very hard to beat thanks to his - and of course Jacques - fantastic leadership. I also strongly believe that his - and South Africa's - input to the whole rugby world has already been positively immense and the game will hopefully grow, as long as the English and (sorry guys) NZ influence is reduced. For example the letting off of Farrell is disgraceful (and I support Saracens!) and Steward previously (and noting his yellow for a ridiculous 'tackle' last Saturday which many poms are trying to say was the wing trying to kick him in the head!) which has brought so much harm to the game.
If the Boks can keep playing like they did last night they will indeed be hard to beat. Even France and Ireland had to dig deep last year to keep them down, a bok team in world cup final form is very dangerous.
There is no mind games. It’s simple - there is a return to play protocol after injury and the injured players are not available and not ready, and so are not in the main 33. They are giving other players minutes which is exactly what you want. It’s all simple and straight forward - there is no conspiracy but if someone gets injured then you can bring in a standby player.

Kirwin's anti-South Africa personal agenda is costing NZ rugby big money and big rugby development potential. When are they going to put a gag on him?
Its quite simple. The players in question (Pollard and Am) are looking promising with recovering from injury but its senseless to name them in the squad because something can affect their recovery process and now you have wasted 2 spots for 2 fully fit players. Its too risky. By leaving them out, they can bring them in later. Its just simple risk management! Intelligent!
