    I have both and prefer the Minn Kota for Kokanee and the reactor for everything else. I can troll all day at Kokanee speeds and not run out of battery with my 3 100ah battle born lithium batteries. When I troll at 3 mph they die after 6 hours, and at 3.5 mph it’s closer to 3 hours. I love the quiet peaceful Kokanee trolling with the Minn Kota. Good luck deciding.

    I have the Reactor, it's awesome. It doesn't have spot lock, other than that no drawbacks at all. I went with that as I already had a kicker and didn't want to buy another motor and batteries for up front. I used it all salmon season and had zero issues, it holds course perfect, does zig zags, 180 degree turn and the remote has buttons for either 1 degree or 10 degree changes. It was a total game changer for me, almost hard to describe how much easier it made fishing. It also has throttle control, and I have way more control over speed then before as each click is barely moving the throttle up or down. It's great when you are fighting a fish, you can easily steer and slow down with one hand while holding the rod with the other.

      I had the same experience for years on my friend’s boat with a tr1. Like you said it was a game changer. I almost ordered the reactor 40 last month but every other person I talk to said don’t. I really appreciate you commenting. Did you install yourself Bob?

    • @InvestorAcademyPodca
      @InvestorAcademyPodca 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I installed it. It's a great unit, Garmin uses the same one for sailboats and large yachts, the only difference is the actuator. Brains, display and remote are all the same. They took the tr1 and made it way better built and much better programming and features. I don't know if you fish salt, but if so it is the obvious choice by far. A 20" hardtop is heavy and catches a ton of wind. You would need a huge bow mount with a ton of batteries and the guys I know that went that way still have to use the kicker to help the electric. I haven't heard of problems with the Garmin, my guess would be they either didn't install it right or didnt calibrate it right. It takes some time to install but they have good directions.

      @@InvestorAcademyPodca wow Bob thanks for the offer. Yes I fish salt a lot. The minn Kota option is a rip tide 36 volt $3200. charger and other parts $500 and a $1700 dekota lithium battery. Do you recommend a place I buy the reactor?

    • @InvestorAcademyPodca
      @InvestorAcademyPodca 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NorthwestCatch I bought mine at BOE Marine. They had a good price and shipped quickly. I would also buy a stainless steer tube for the kicker. I mounted the display on a ram mount as I ran out of dash space for a flush mount. 2600 for the package, 100 for a steer tube, 20 for wiring and maybe 40 for a ram mount.

    Congratulations on 400 subs. Ought to be thousands more. The Glee from Paisley? She knows more Kokanee in her diet. Put up a video of a Deception Pass float with my younger brothers from last month chasing Pink.

    I have had both, but currently, on my boat, I have the Garmin Reactor 40 utilizing the hydraulics to control my main. I have a very beefy tie bar that is connected to my kicker. I love this setup as I can use the autopilot to navigate me anywhere in the San Juans at cruising speeds. The only thing I have to watch out for are the floating logs in the Puget Sound. For trolling, it's great as I have a screen in the back that also controls the autopilot. It has driving patterns for trolling and if you get the remote, just point the remote where you want to go and it heads to that position. Definitely spend some time tuning the autopilot if you get Reactor 40.
    The two things I miss about having a bow mount trolling motor are the anchor lock and how quiet it is trolling. Don't get me wrong, my 20hp kicker is very quiet compared to the 9.9 kicker I had on my old boat; however, the almost dead silence of having the Minnkota on the bow makes it nice while trolling for sockeye @ Baker Lake.
    During the winter months, I would upgrade to an in-cabin diesel heater. I used to have the Buddy Heater but it did not help with the condensation so now I keep the buddy heater on the fishing deck when my dogs and I need to keep warm outside.
    Congrats on the new boat!

      Will you put it on yourself? I here having the tool That cleans the steering shaft is key . As if there is anything leftover from the factory milling will make it go bad pretty quick.

    Minnkota Terrova. Ulterra has improved immensely in last 5 years, but he autolift mechanism can have problems. If you go Ulterra get a quick disconnect on the motor mount in case it fails, it never will fail in good conditions where easy to work on. Minnkota right now is same as many suppliers, and the repair parts are not available. Terrova is bulletproof you just have to lift it manually, it has a spring assist so it doesn't take much effort.
