Luke and Reid - Why Did Reid Fall (LuRe/Ruke ATWT Highlights from Jan 19-Feb 1, 2010)

- Unlike many, who feel that Reid actually started falling either on the phone or "at first sight", I've taken at face value his statement that he fell for Luke " the second or third time I laid eyes on him" (see video response). I believe Reid's initial contempt for Luke was genuine -- and exhibited so many times in this clip that I won't point them out. But for awhile, I've wondered, what changed Reid's mind.
This video captures bits from just about every scene Luke and Reid shared from their first meeting through to the "When did Reid fall?" video. Though Reid tries to keep up his guard, there are all sorts of little signs of Luke breaking through the armor. Enjoy!

0:46 Reid skips a beat when Luke reveals that he blackmailed Reid because he loves Noah.
1:01 I have no doubt that if Noah hadn't shown up that Reid would have been on that commercial flight and LONG gone.
1:46 I think this is the first time Reid refers to Noah as Luke's boyfriend. If there were a LuRe drinking game, surely that would be one of the prompts!
2:10 Watch Reid's eyes here. Like Abby's during the wedding scene at Emma's (Aug 3), you can see them going between Luke and Noah trying to assess the situation, the relationship. I think Reid is starting to be...curious.

When Reid says, "My god, you're relentless," the expression on his face (Succumbing Reid?) is one we see several times in this highlights clip; it's similar to the one at the beginning of the Eyeflirting (Apr 8) episode after Luke begs for "Just one second, please hear me out."
5:44 When Luke changes from badgering to sentimental, you can briefly see, starting from when the camera is over Reid's shoulder, more Succumbing Reid. And sheesh - anyone playing the LuRe drinking game would be well on their way to plastered by now! Another boyfriend.

7:30 Love the confused look on Noah's face. Reminds me of the Eyeflirting episode ("what'd I miss?").
7:40 This is almost exactly the same blocking as at the start of Aug 2 when Luke is trying to convince Reid to go to the Molden wedding. Reid is writing at the nurse's station, and Luke is hovering over his shoulder. Reid is making snide remarks, and even now, Luke isn't quite biting.

8:40 The "athlete's foot" line has to be the single most obnoxious Luke line in the entire S/L. Though Luke SOOOO gets Reid, and Van's delivery kinda nails Luke's attitude, maturity, and intent at this point, I literally cringe every time I hear it. More space invasion. Maybe it's pheromones.

10:04 When Reid realizes that Luke is acting out of guilt, you can hear the softening of his voice and see the change in his face. It's not just Succumbing Reid here. You can see the gears clicking in his head/heart. At this point, I don't think he's falling yet, but he's at least open to reconsidering his prejudice against Luke now.
11:57 Noah starts off right: "Dr Oliver doesn't want you around him, ever." But then Noah adds, "We have to stay away from each other starting right now...He won't perform the surgery unless I stay away from you." Really?
12:38 Luke's "No-ah" is SO annoying. Thank heavens "Reid" is normally only one syllable, and the vowel sound isn't so whiny.
12:48 This scene is a complete ante-echo (what's the opposite of echo?) of the June 17th episode when Reid "chooses" the hospital. In both cases, Noah/Reid say it's only "for a few months" and Luke concludes, "So you're picking Dr. Oliver/the hospital over me." What I LOVE is the contrast between the very parallel dialogue and the entirely different Luke. Here, Luke is tearful, pouty and clingy, asking "what about me?" In the episode with Reid (even if the relationship wasn't well-established on screen), Grown-up Luke takes charge of his own life and declares that he won't settle.

I wanted these two to get together at the end. Bloody writers.
I agree that Reid was either angry with Luke during all these scenes, or having an inner struggle toward the end because he didn't know why he was attracted to him. But the very next scene that would come after the end of this clip--when Luke leaves Noah at the table and Reid 'watches' him walk away--I think *that* is the very first sign that Luke got under Reid's skin.
I just realized that Reid never told Noah that he couldn't be around Luke at all he just said keep him away from him. They could've still been together outside of the hospital but instead Noah used that as an excuse to stop seeing luke.
Finally someone realised it
@@TheShalinikhannabecause there is a huge part of Noah that is ashamed of who he is. That's the underlying problem with Nuke.
funny thing is: Reid was completely right about Luke being a rich little boy who gets what he wants through all the money he can throw at it, yet he's still totally attracted to him... Dilemma...

I always preferred Luke with Reid. Noah just wasn’t comfortable being who he was and he took that out on Luke. They brought out the worst in each other. Reid and Luke brought out the best in each other.
i think when Reid was asking Noah what his problem with Luke was & Noah said it was his problem & he didn't know what they were is when Reid started falling for Luke. before that he thought they were together & wasn't going to let any feelings develop for him, but with Noah saying that & he realized Luke was doing it out of guilt he started falling for him.

Wow... I am SO out of the loop! I haven't seen this show in years--my mom and I used to watch Y&R, ATWT, and GL every day (way back when!). She would have grooved on this relationship, as well as Luke's with Noah. Thanks for helping catch me up a bit. I really missed out!
