Sadly this is a common ending to many a studio. Big dreams building big studios without first understanding the local, regional and even national market demand as well as what it takes to promote a facility this size in order to make a profit.
Who was the studio designer for the Angel Mountain Sound complex? They, like so many others at this time, happened to build another BIG complex just as the budgets were shrinking and home studios were springing up EVERYWHERE! Nashville is filled with beautiful, purpose-built studios that are privately owned with one room and appear to be constantly booked, or at least booked enough to keep the doors open. I worked at Starstruck Studios from before they opened (starting midway through '95) until early '99. It was a real heyday for Nashville at the time.
