    Truth be told, I had a moment of regret after trading in my 2019 Ford Raptor for this 2020 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro... but that quickly faded. I’ve grown to love this truck so much! Love the color, the V8, the Sound, the simplicity! Would you make this trade?

    I love how people say the tundra feels “cheap” all other manufacturers have shit break all the time interior and exterior. Not just their engines and transmissions.. Toyota is quality and reliable.

      Hey John,
      I get what you mean I have owned 2 Toyotas and now have a Ram 1500. I think the misconception is the new age truck guy wants all the bells and whistles but have a truck. The people that want a vehicle for quality and reliability understand toyota cares more about the driveability and reliability of the car or truck rather then the look on the inside and design.
      Just by talking about the key fobs you can tell that is what this guy is.

      Hey just want to say nice tundra. I personally would not buy one. Too light of a truck to haul and have a payload. I do have a f350 diesel but it’s in a different class. If I were to get half ton he’ll yes I’d buy the Toyota
      Again nice truck.

    We all get cold feet and second guessing ourselves often after every major purchase, that is natural. In a few months, years that feeling will pass. You can't go wrong with a Toyota, I know they slid a bit in terms of quality on some of the interior surfaces, but I think the Big 3 really got competitive in the truck category, so from a standpoint of improvement the North Americans are really competitive and it show. I will have to do a review on my Tacoma shortly! keep these videos coming!

    I think you made a terrific decision. Resale, reliability and overall longevity of engine and parts are enough to justify it over a Ford. I chimed in on one of your last videos and like I said before, I was about to repair transmission at around 95k miles on my 2015 F150 XLT. Not to mention I was ready to replace my second set of lug nuts, lol. Seriously... lug nuts go bad on Fords. I did really like my F150 XLT but over the last year of owning a Tacoma I see the value in the Toyota where the Ford's newness was quickly wearing off.

  • @lokkstarproductions6918
    @lokkstarproductions6918 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This is how i see it. If you are planning to buy a truck for the long haul Tundra are good trucks to get the job done. However, if you are like me or many other people, most people don’t drive their vehicles over 7 to 10 years. If you know you’re not going to keep your truck that long, find one that you would truly enjoy driving. Because even though reliability is most our concerns, it shouldn’t be a deal breaker to limit yourself to one truck. Lots of trucks today are pretty good. Plus they are built and design to last at least the warranty period and that is usually the life of the loan. Don’t get too caught up in just reliability. I change vehicle every 6-7 years and have never had issues with reliability on F150 and Silverados. Don’t sell yourself short if you really want something out of these trucks. I eliminated the TRD Pro from my list after doing research and finding out that the Tundra doesn’t even come with a locking differential. But that’s my reason, some other people might not care.

    • @UntamedMotors
      @UntamedMotors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lokkstar Productions I think you make really good points. Reliability shouldn’t be as big a deal as people make it out to be... because you’re right, most people only own a vehicle for a few years. Still, there is something to be said about the piece of mind that comes with owning this rig. I love it and the color. =] this glorious V8 sound is also addictive!

    • @lokkstarproductions6918
      @lokkstarproductions6918 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Untamed Motors as long as you enjoy it. That’s why there is a lot of different cars out there. As for the Raptor, the v6 does not sound aggressive but it is sure fast. Out of all the V8 i felt that the Hemi 5.7 felt the fastest and sounded the best out of V8. I do like V8 and i think that’s what should be in a truck.

    I researched for 3 months what truck to buy. Looked at Chevy, Ford, Dodge and Toyota. They all had something that was unique to them but it came down to two things for me:
    1. Reliability
    2. Simplicity
    Ford, Chevy and Ram cram their trucks with all these bells and whistles that just mark up the price ridiculously. Toyota keeps the mentality of "if it aint broke, don't fix it". I bought mine used with 36k for a great price and have ZERO regrets. My brother has a 18 F150 and plans to get a Tundra now.
    Side note*** this is my first vehicle purchase since my 2007 Fusion. Great decision.

    I didn't have a raptor but I too did go from an over priced truck to a tundra and driven a few other trucks in between. I think the trade was 100% worth the over all investment. If you look at the going rate for tundras 5-10 years old, people still ask 20k-30k for a truck with 180-200k miles on the body because overall it runs at the end of the day with very little maintence maintence aside from the essentials oil changes brakes etc. The cost to own is the most affordable and regardless of flimsy things here and there, they are cheap and easy to replace. Technology yeah is a bit dated but it ALWAYS WORKS. I have a 2019 VW tiguan, a 2014 wrx and a 2015 Tundra and the tundra is the cheapest vehicle to maintain this past year so far

    Sir, You actually made the better choice. You'll notice the bigger door hands inside and out. Thats designed to help with someone who has big work gloves on since its a Texas built truck. The off road version sporting the black plastic handles so you dont fret about scratching the chrome handles IE: Limited/Platinum models. The Army Green being new for this year is a great choice. Drive train is the same size as a semi trucks. While other 1500 class trucks are smaller. The doors as you notice when you close them create a superior air tight seal. Thats why if and when you close it slowly it doesnt close all the way. You'll also see if you check out the body lines of this vehicle they are exact all the way around. You can even measure it against a much older Toyota, as long as its never been in an accident, they will be the same. Raptors are neat trucks but the Tundra will never let you down. Good Job

    I traded my 2017 raptor almost fully loaded except for the carbon fiber. The rear differential went out. There was a water leak through the panoramic moon roof on rainy days of course. The truck stalled on me and dealer said there was a loose harness or something. Long story short, the raptor was unreliable. I traded it in for a new supra and had my regrets. The supra drives amazing and I'm very happy and excited. I'm going to modify with down pipes, tune and bigger turbo. I guess I like unreliable vehicles. But I'm happy now. I'm done with ford.

      Reliability is a main concern for most of us. However, buying a brand new car most of them will last you just fine for the life of the loan without any issues. If you ever purchased a new car you’ll know what i mean. In the car business vehicles are tested extensively to meet or exceed the warranty period. That’s why they offer it, they are guaranteeing you the warranty period. Now if you asked about a car that is a decade year old, maybe the toyota will be more of a better decision to buy.

    • @OutdoorTimee
      @OutdoorTimee 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have bought several new and that’s my point, the Toyota is the only one I didn’t have to either shell out money for or I didn’t have to miss work (money lost)to have warranty work done on.

      @lokkstarproductions6918 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tee i have never done any major work on new cars. The only time i’ve brought my car into dealer is for recall which even Tundra have. My last truck was a 2015 Silverado with 0 problems. Just oil change and maintenance. If you just take care of your car, it’ll have a high percentage of lasting. The ones that cries and yell about their new vehicle is a very small percentage of people compared to the sales rate. I can tell you this however, many Honda’s and Toyotas i own are notorious for oil consumption. However they can keep going if you continue to fill oil. But that’s if you remember.

    If you want longtime reliability you get outdated Tundra. If you want performance you buy Raptor. All you guys talking about Tundra reliability you do realize its because nothing was changed in it for past 15 years. If Ford wouldn't update lets say their 5.0L V8 F150's for past 15 years it would have exact same reliability as Tundra. Also to all of you saying buy a Supercharger and Suspension to make it better then Raptor and it would still be cheaper. I have no idea where you been living. Tundra's engine is not high Performance friendly with Supercharger you can get only 550HP and 550lb-ft Torque to stay on safe side without engine failure which with install will run you aprox. $9K. To make Tundra's suspension superior to Raptors you have to spend aprox. $10K. Thats extra $19K on top of $55K truck which totals to $74K.
    My previous truck was 2017 Roush Supercharged F150 Stage 2 650HP. With just another pulley swap and more aggressive Tune i could've gone in 730HP mark still being on safe side with the engine. Current truck I own is 2019 Roush Raptor. It came from Roush with their PowerPack at 510HP. After simple Intercooler swap for bigger one and Custom Tune its at 600HP and over 610lb-ft Torque right now. Thats just $2K invested into it. If I want to go to bigger Turbos we looking at over 700HP range. Tundra will never give you this kind of performance without doing internal work to the engine.

    Resale and reliability is what you’re buying. Comfort and interior all that can be upgraded and easily done yourself. As far as color and markup just wait one more year and this color will be available in any trim level. By an sr5 and convert it to a pro save thousands of dollars that’s what I did. Raptors are cool but watching the value drop as fast as it does doesn’t attract me one bit and all the issues they have.

    Just traded my 2016 Ford F-150 for a brand new 2019 Toyota Tundra TRD PRO. I had the same emotions when I got rid of my F150. Felt like I went backwards in Tech. My F-150 dashboard was coming up and my panoramic roof went out and the dealership wanted 2,700$ to fix. Made a case with ford and they were supposed to call me the next day and I never received a call. Felt like Ford turn there back on me. Technology kills Reliability. Catch myself waking up in the middle of the night and going out to the garage and just staring at it. Only time will tell how this Toyota holds up.

    congratulations on your new Tundra friend, I think that army green is one nice color too. You know, to all the people on a bashing spree on Ford, let me tell ya'll something. I've owned my Gen 1 Raptor for 5 years and the only major issues I've had was a TPM system fault. I do not discredit the longevity of a well built Toyota vehicle. But there's more to it than just the truck. Love your vehicle and it will return the love. I get in my truck and she puts a smile on my face each time I go places. That's what matters. As long as you are happy at the end of the day, you made the right choice. The TRD Pro is a nice looking truck, and it's already set up real fine for off roading. It's a solid choice, even if it's a bit outdated compared to the competition: bell and whistles, power, payload, transmission, mileage, aesthetics, and they are a bit overpriced. However, if I had a Raptor, I definitely wouldn't trade it in for a TRD Pro LOL. The Raptor is the real deal! Granted, domestic brands aren't as reliable as Toyota, but Ford is clearly a better choice than GM and Ram quality. Ford has consistently been putting a lot of money into F-150 R&D, just drive a model from the early and late 1990's, and tell me how much better the ride quality feels now on the F-150.

    Most of these comments are asinine the Gen 2 Raptor is just 4 years old. To claim it won't hold up to the Tundra is pure speculation because its relatively new compared to the Tundra, you can not make a factual comparison.
    Did you do the right thing by trading it in, ask yourself if you had your time over would you make the same decision then you get the answer. Most Raptor owners buy one because that's what they have been lusting over, it ticks all the boxes for their needs, towing a heavy load isn't one of them.
    Raptor is a mission specific vehicle it's a off road beast 1st and foremost. All wrapped up in a wider stance, beefier frame bigger shocks just for starters. Looking at the interior of the Tundra makes me wonder just what was going through your mind it's so outdated looking. That's an average place to be compared to what the Raptor gives you.
    Not sure if you are trying to convince your viewers or yourself on this one. Seems you went out of your way to find this Tundra perhaps you are deep down a die hard Toyota fan most Raptor owners tend to be Ford enthusiasts just look on the Forums.

      David Hobbs the Raptor is the better truck, I’m not trying to convince anyone of anything. The Raptor is also 20K more though so it better be. Both are exceptional trucks for their own reasons… you will have a moment of “wtf did I just do?” after trading it in but I think the Tundra offers the best peace of mind and has a much more rugged feel.

    You did the right thing, as per the norm Ford always screws up, the list is long, but putting a v6 in the raptor was stupid, they ruined a killer truck, same thing with the mustang, put a 4 banger in it. The tundra is far easier on the pocket when it comes to ownership cost.

    I have 278,000+ miles on my 2014 Tundra. I have the same transmission. I have never replaced a single major part. I did have to replace the plastic cover of some type on the side of the driver's seat but they did that at no charge about 80,000 miles ago. Of course, I have changed the brake pads out 2-3 times. If you drove that Raptor 278,000 miles do you think you would have the original transmission in it at that time? You'd probably be on transmission 4 or 5.

    Tbh I was pretty angry listening to the first 5 minutes of this as someone who owns an Army Green 4Runner. I will say the Raptor is a very nice truck. Lots of utility and tech. However, what you are getting with the Toyota is reliability and durability. It will last forever. Some of the other comments on this video said it perfectly. The Raptor has all the show and go, is dressed to impress, but most often not without its own fair share of problems down the road. The Tundra is tried and true, no hassles, and just works every time.

    I had a 2016 SR5 Crewmax that I really loved but due to an accident it was totaled not my fault and I bought a 2020 Limited double cab which fits my lifestyle better and I just love the truck I really do I don't need all the fancy sunroof moonroof and all the other stuff that you set one time and you really don't mess with again. The Limited is more than I wanted leather seats but I'm happy with it total price tag on mine was $51.700 but I offerd $42.5 and they agreed plus the $300 doc fee but that is it and of course tax which I hated to pay. I thought I got a good price. 5.7 big V8 pulls my campers wonderfully my quad trailer and my boat no issues love the truck I thought it was a good value at that price so I went for it. I love the pro but still a little too pricey for me I can't imagine paying Raptor prices even though they're gorgeous

    But I’m still confused. It didn’t feel clear, why did you trade again? It doesn’t sound like you had any issues with the raptor. I can understand if you had a mechanical issue with it but if no issues why not just ride it out especially with next generation tundra 2 years out.

    • @UntamedMotors
      @UntamedMotors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I personally like the idea of having the last model year of this gen Tundra. They tend to be more desirable... the Raptor was great, I just think their values tanking in the next 2-3 years. The driving reason behind doing this was to lessen my loan by 18K... helped a lot and now we are able to pay this off before moving in July. Which will put us in a better position when buying our next home.

    In my opinion the TRDPro should be a package and not a separate model. You can get more tech in a Tundra if you want but you need to spring for the Platinum or 1794 Edition. They should make the TRDPro an option if you want the chrome delete, Fox shocks, grill and forged wheels. That way you can get a base SR with TRDPro bits or a fully loaded Platinum with TRDPRo bits depending on your wants and needs.
    Of course you could also do quite a bit to a brand new Platinum Tundra for the $20k+ you'd save on a Raptor and be better off.

    I traded my 2013 F-150 Supercrew 4x4 3.5 ecoboost for a 2019 Tacoma longbed crew cab and also miss some things about the Ford, mostly the huge power, quietness and smoother ride. That said, my Ford truck, with only 68,000 miles, spent 11 weeks in the Ford dealership garage last summer with over $5000 of repairs (covered under an extended warranty that was about to expire). I figured it was better to trade while it was working and still worth something.

    I had a 2008 Tundra which I just traded in for a 2020 Tundra. It may not be as fancy as other trucks, but to me, the interior is not that bad and is a good looking truck. Not fancy, but not bad in my opinion. The key with my experience, just do your normal maintenance and you will have something you never have to worry about. It does get very thirsty, but to me it is worth the trade off to have something that is that reliable and enjoyable to drive.
