Hey. We are from Germany and we're great fans of Moving to Oahu. In 2014 we spend our Holiday s on the Island of Oahu. Since this time we felld in love to Hawaii. We wish you all the best for Future.
My daughter lives in Lahaina and I went to visit her and it was the first time on Maui. We arrived at sunset and walked to the banyon tree. The bird's going off was cool. Next morning walked out to Front street and I asked the " Where are we?" Lol it reminded me of Orange County California and Catalina Island. All white faces. Wealthy looking So Cal folk's! Ugh 😩 I didn't want to deal with the type of people that I was tired of looking at on the daily. Came nightfall and Front street shutting down I hear Where you stay brah?!" And other local pidgen conversation. Cheeee hooo! I was like Yesss! How'z it braddah!! 🤙🤙🥰
Thank you for posting this past video. I know this is a year ago but it’s sad to see the fire. Oh the town got burnt down and we least have this video to show what it look like before the fires. Thank you. This is your subscriber from Los Angeles, but I own property on the big island of Hilo.🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Really great video. You really explained the differences between the areas. We have a condo in Honokowai, I'm always honest with people when they ask about it. I tell them that if you are looking for a resort feel, this isn't the place. Not that one is better than another, just different. I would hate to see someone spend a lot of money to rent a place and expect something that it's not. If you want to kick back, sit on the lanai and eat the meal you cooked on the grill downstairs, while visiting with locals and other tourists, Honokowai is the place. If you want a swim up bar, Ka'anapali or Wailea is your jam.
We did a 1031 into this condo just a couple of months ago and don’t have a huge mortgage so that takes the pressure off. So far we have it booked solid through June. My in-laws have a place that they have had for over a decade two buildings away and they are booked solid all year. I have been coming to Maui since the mid 1970’s when I was a kid. We love the island and the people.
Love your real estate details provided for us. It’s just as if I were riding in the same vehicle with you both receiving a personal house n island tour. Thank you for the insights and local views it’s very helpful in decision making being here in Anchorage Alaska. 🥶 You both make a fantastic team strengthening each other as we benefit as well. Much mahalos & alohas!
This is just us being us, just like if you were here in the islands. We're just a call/message away if there's anything you want to ask, don't hesitate! Alaska & Hawaii are like besties 👯 we're our own thing in our own beautiful ways!
Love the vid, I live up in Haiku. You guys should come up this way and do a Haiku/Makawao video. Especially Makawao, it’s a completely different world to Front St. & Lahaina.
Front Street can get wild during Halloween, no joke! I used to love taking the ferry to Moloka’i number of years ago…Man I miss Maui! Loved this video, getting insights from you guys about Maui just puts this into a very interesting perspective, loved the analysis you both provided especially the comparisons to O’ahu, looking forward to your videos related to the other parts of Maui. You still got the tag on your ukulele? lol
My first Hawaiian trip was to Maui 30yrs ago. I had no idea what to expect except that it would be “Paradise”. Landing at the airport and then making that drive on Honoapiilani to where I was staying in Kapalua was my first impression of Paradise. The strip malls, the rock nets and the tunnel were not what I was quite expecting…but it felt like Paradise to me nevertheless because I was so excited. When we reached Kaanapali, however, I got even more excited because it felt “greener” and suddenly people were everywhere. By the time I got to Kapalua, my first impulse was to run to the ocean. I had a great time at my friend’s wedding, almost drowning in Napili, golfing on the Plantation Course (I still have the tag on my golf bag today), snorkeling for the first time in my life and seeing my favorite fish the Powder Blue Tang, etc…I’ll never forget that trip.
I remember walking in that park with the tree with all the vendors- I guess they are all gone. Would love to live in Maui one day. Nice job as usual guys!
Spent many years in the Islands. Last time I was there was in 1990. I always said if I go back I'm not coming back to my Indian reservation in New Mexico
Very Nice Video, loved listening to you guys talking story while informing us. My friend used to honk his horn in the tunnel too and he said that was to scare any ghosts who like to linger in tunnels from jumping into his car.
7:15 August 2023-people were jumping into the ocean here one family said there was no warning wondering why wth today technology the death toll is coming out: Families must not rely on technology and be prepared for self evacuation and be ready when systems crash: My parents had their 25th anniversary celebration in 1982:
Bringing more people from the mainland(which your vids are clearly aimed at) to make money from their "real estate dreams in paradise" while saying the kanaka have no where to live is the most hypocritical/disgusting/contradicting thing I've encountered in a while. Keep up the Ambassadors of Aloha vibe you got going on, we clearly see the wool being pulled over our eyes.
@@movingtohawaii require residency of at least 5 years for purchase of homes. These out of state buyers that y’all are bringing here are literally pushing locals out. Even hearing of real estate agents sending pamphlets to locals trying to convince them to sell 🙄 sickening if you ask me
@@serenaalexander2236 that's happening everywhere. It's a seller's market and not enough inventory. People are buying site unseen and bidding war's are making the sellers and the agents more money than they are asking for. Potential buyers are asking agent's to find something in our desired location, etc. Agent's are pounding the pavement and flooding every social media groups in Huntington Beach with every marketing tactic there is. I lived on Maui for twelve years, and have never been on Oahu, except in the airport. I cannot relate how Derek tires to equate everything on Maui to what it is like on Oahu. No body on Maui give too shoots about what is Oahu like.
Your comments really help the channel and Derek appreciates it very much. Thing is, there are plenty of us locals with family and friends on both islands who do have ties to both and get what I’m saying. Also for foreigners (a lot of what Maui is, like you..) before moving to Maui, the more nuance and comparison the better as they’re making their decision. So while you find it unrelatable, in general people get value from our channel. Thanks for the feedback, Hawaiian 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Ha! Just making pilikia. I enjoy your videos they are helpful and insightful. And yes a video on the origin and variations of da shaka would be educational for tourists as well as locals. Continue to spread Aloha and keep throwing dem "Shakas". My go-to's are "The Classic" or " Da Shootz"

Totally would love to see a upcountry video.
I have heard Haiku is nice.😮
On O’ahu growing up we’d toot the horn through the Wilson and Pali tunnels. I’m surprised to hear that no one does that now
Maybe we'll start a revival!

The restaurant that you saw on the corner heading toward kaanapali is now a spanish church. Used to be a restaurant.
Is this the real NFL player? :) I did see the church sign when we drove by.

Nice area, but so sad Hawaiians/Locals getting forced out of their own homelands with the outrageous prices.
I love Maui coffee.

We agree on the issue - many locals are finding it more and more difficult to buy a home or stay at home. Care to share a solution?
