Krys, I really need your help! What state did you transfer your license from? What was the process like? Did you have any difficulty? Have any tips? (I have a million more questions)
Hi Lani! I transferred from Oregon to Hawaii. You just need to get the paperwork online to print and fill out. Make sure you read the directions carefully and don't make any mistakes. Take your time with each section/question. You will need a transcript (unopened) from your school where you graduated to send in and a payment (I used a check). If you make a mistake on the form and send it in, it will take them forever to let you know and have the chance to redo it and correct the mistake. I went through the checklist of everything that needed to be on the form and highlighted it as I finished each part so I knew I didn't miss anything. I did not have difficulty. My friend made a small mistake on something and it took her over a month to get it fixed. Ask away!!!
@@FitCrunchyMama Thank you so much! The website was really intimidating and went into details about school hours. I'm in Ohio where you need 1500hrs for school and saw Hawaii needs 1800. Did you do the Cosmetology License or the Hair Stylist License?

What I miss the most is the gorgeous colors everywhere you look and of course the Honu. I lived across the street from Kaanapali a short walk to the farmers market and Honokowai Beach Park but I chose S-turns as my hang out. Photography is my hobby and luckily I didn't have work but was approached at a Biking store asking me to work part-time on Front Street with Ocean views. Sure I said! I was there for 3 months last year and decided to move. I'll be moving there officially in a few weeks, by myself, so my biggest concern is making friends. Where were you guys living and how did you meet people? I was mainly in Kihei and made plenty of tourist friends for a week or two but I'd like to meet people living there. Any tips?
Hey Matthew. We lived in Kihei. Very close to the Maui Sunset park. For us we met people at the church. South Maui Calvary church in Kihei. Also we met a lot of folks just on the beach. Easy to tell who is local or not. Krystal actually made a lot of really good friends from Instagram who were already living on the island. Hope this helps. Aloha! -Kyle Krystal here... Also there are many people on island without family so if you're nice and give it some time and effort you will easily make plenty of ohana!!!
We lived there a little over a year. We moved back because we are both close with our families (California and Oregon based) and we wanted to start a family of our own and not be so far away. We personally noticed that a good majority of mainlanders we met who moved to Maui didn't have very close ties with their families like we do. If you are close with your family and they can visit often or you have the ability to visit back home often then we'd say living on the island long term could be totally doable in that sense. Hope that helped! :) Mahalo!

Im a cosmetology student and I want to move to oahu sometime within the next two years and I’m so glad I found your channel because I haven’t been able to find many people who are in the beauty industry and managed to move there!! I wanted to ask; how exactly do you go about transferring your licensure and finding a job there?
Hey! sorry it has taken me this long to get back to you. Somehow missed your comment. You will need to apply through the board to get your license. Just like any other state but you want to make sure it is 100% ACCURATE. cannot stress that part enough. Excited for you and your plans. 2 years will be here before you know it. What other questions do you have?
We saw a couple and it was always at night. Unlikely you will see one but if you do, just let it be. They were usually just laying there and not doing much.
Hey Emily! Krystal here... Yes, it was pretty straight forward to get a license to do hair/esthetics in Hawaii. I worked at a family owned salon in Wailea and at the Andaz Awilli Salon & Spa before applying for my license and officially getting it. If you're good with updo's and/or makeup you can do wedding hair and makeup without a license. I worked for two of the top onsite wedding hair/mu companies on the island and they did not require a license. When you DO apply and fill out the paperwork make sure you read it THOROUGHLY and provide ALL the information needed. I'm pretty sure I needed to send in some documentation (transcripts) from the school I attended with my hours and also something from my old employer on the mainland as well as a check $. If you don't read the directions and provide everything asked and fill it out properly it will take much longer so just cross your T's and dot your I's 😆! Things are pretty relaxed in Hawaii (at least in Maui), this can be great for getting a job but sometimes the processing of documents can take forever (island time). Also, another tip... Hawaii loves reliable, hardworking people... From what I was told, it is hard to find that there, (so many people wanna go have fun) so if you're reliable, hard working, and a good person then you shouldn't have any trouble finding a job! I put myself out there and got 4 job offers within the first 2 weeks I was there, but I took the initiative to go out and put myself out there! I hope this helps! Did you go anywhere around the backside of Maui? Either way, there is an endless supply of videos where people have driven around up-and-down everywhere on the island. There's so much good TH-cam footage to share with others.
Revisiting your video today, in April of 2022. It's a great encouragement and informative for people. As Christians, I think you were sensitive to the Holy Spirit prompting you to move from there when you did, before covid. You're probably right, as newer people on the island, that could have affected your jobs over there. Even though you didn't know about it, God did.

Hey Star Gazer. For us family was more important. We cannot replace time with family and loved ones but we could always go back to Hawaii if we wanted to.
Some of your facts are spot on. But you live the Haole way. Most of us Hawaiians live so different then you. So our cost are not the same. In many ways lower because we do not live the same. So you are correct if you live as a Haole but if you live local style different
Thank you for the feedback! Totally get what you mean. We were trying to give a perspective for non-locals. However, we are very frugal and try not to be wasteful and also live from the land/water (respectfully) whenever possible. So for some the cost may be even higher than what we experienced! Have a Merry Christmas/Happy New Year. Thank you for watching.
I was born and raised on Kauai during the 70's and 80's, I moved to Oahu and lived there for nearly 10 years before moving to WA at the end of June 2000, I had to move out of Hawaii because the high paying blue collar jobs are either hard to find or get onto, but at least my parents are still on Kauai and I have a home to go to maybe after I retire. If I was still living on Oahu or Kauai today, I'd most likely be not working almost the entire 2020 and be collecting unemployment.
Hey Jason. Where you at in Washington? We have family in Seattle area. I know what you mean. Always good to have some roots on the islands. We have some good friends (ohana) the island to visit when we can.
Hey William. Yes it is Hawaii and tourism is a huge industry for the island. Another factor for prices is everything is shipped in from a boat. Living there I would define tourism in two categories. Westside (Lahaina/Kapalua) tourism is more disconnected to the local living. Has more resorts, hotels that provide all the amenities to not leave the premises. Kihei has a more local and tourism mix that is more connected to the community of Kihei. Has more airbnbs and smaller hotels that encourage you to get out and see the town. I have to agree with you about how dry it is. Kihei is very dry but it also provides amazing weather with little chances of rain. No one wants to get rained on during a vacation. I see your point of view and appreciate your feedback. Mahalo!

@@FitCrunchyMama I stayed a few months on the Big Island (Puna), stayed overnight in Maui before, ovine to Kauai. So much aloha! My experience felt like floating through the islands.
There are turtles all over south Maui in Kihei. Our local friend said if you can't find a see turtle..your looking to hard. I recommend Kamaole Beach 2 (Kam 2 Beach) for turtles. The south side of the beach has a great coral spot and good for swimming and snorkeling. The shots in this video were form that spot. Whales, depending what time of the year you are going. Winter time is when they are there (Nov-March-ish). You can see them from the beach but if want to get close I recommend the Alii Nui Charter in Ma'alaea. I would also recommend the aquarium where they have a really cool 3D whale exhibit.
Aloha!! Nice video but the only thing you got wrong is about KiHell, that's where all the tourist go not the West Side!! I find most people that live on the South Side or tourist that vacation there never go to the West Side? Once we visited Napili Beach we never stayed on the South Side again, we found our home!! My wife and I lived in Napili (West Side) for 6 years, I wouldn't last 6 months in KiHell!! LOL. The only reason we'd go to the South Side was to go to Costco, we bought 95% of our groceries there and all our gas there!! We also loved Coconut fish café in Kihei, but now they have one on the West Side. It would take us about 50 minutes to get to Costco from Napili. During Whale season it could take over an hour!! Tourist had to slow down to look at the whales and cause accidents!! Did you guys ever go to Napili Beach? IMO, the snorkeling, surfing and beaches are much nicer on the West Side!! However, we did like Big Beach. Plus, it's cooler on the West Side. My wife worked at a local bar/ restaurant called Paradise Grill, it worked out great because she got to meet tons of locals and we got to do every tourist activity for free. I managed our 2 vacation rental condos. We would rent one year round and the other one we lived in for 6 months and then we went back to Tahoe for ski season and rented it while we were gone. We would only stay for 6 to 8 months a year but one time we did stay on Maui for a year and a half. For us it was just time to move on to the next adventure so we sold both condos about 2 years ago. Plus, trying to get anything fixed during surf season was almost impossible if you were off island. The thing we miss the most are our friends and doing nothing but going surfing, SUP and sitting on the beach all day. I also didn't like that they don't have daylight savings so it got dark around 6:30ish year round. I think we'll go back in a few years to see old friends but a lot of our friends have also moved back to the mainland too. Overall we enjoyed it and glad we did it, you only live once!!
Aloha! That's very interesting. I guess it depends on perspective. we've met a lot of tourists while living on the island who all stayed in West Side so from what we've collected its the opposite from what you're saying. You're the first that doesn't like Kihei but we all have our preferences.
I’ve lived in Waikiki on Oahu, Wailuku and Pukalani. Bought a home 30 years ago in North Kihei and Love it! I shop at Safeway, 5 dollar Friday is the day to shop. FYI Costco is in central NOT South Maui (KiHELL). Sorry, but I think Napili is a tourist trap. My mother in-law had a timeshare there. Beautiful though🌺
Haha. yep Red Leg. Exactly why we went when we did. We actually have a couple friends who have moved back to Maui a couple times with kids. I can't even imagine how difficult that would be. Appreciate the comment.

Hey Star Gazer. For us family was more important. We cannot replace time with family and loved ones but we could always go back to Hawaii if we wanted to.
Great video!! Thank you for sharing your experiences. I would love to explore nature and go scuba diving there!
Thank-you. Glad you enjoyed it. You definitely should, if you never been to Maui and make it over there. Let us know and we can point you where to go.
Aloha to you guys ,from the garden island 🏝 of Kauai. I paying rents very expensive in Kauai, more the Maui island
Hey Rimas! Thanks for responding. What are you renting and for roughly how much? I know this will be helpful for others. Appreciate your response.
@@FitCrunchyMama I used to live in Renton but I now live in Cle Elum which is about an hour east of Seattle.
Kihie is a straight up tourist place.
And its the desert of Maui
Terrible place to live but a good vacation spot.
All prices are set for tourist.
Mahalo!
@@FitCrunchyMama i have lived in maui since I was 16 before wailea was there iam 58 now give yourself 2 years here most leave do to family not on the island. I have lived everywhere on this island.
Kihie sucks big time.
Thats what makes Maui great it offers many different options and lifestyles for everyone!
without stolen Hana water Kihei would not even exist.
Thanks '' -I love 💕 to know the name of the place where you tried the Zip line At 2.40 minutes. Also a beautiful beach 🏖 that had extra ordinary vegitation -
Hey Thuria. Skyline Hawaii or Maui Zipline Company. Hope this helps.
do you think u prefer kaui> maui?
We haven't been to Kauai but we have some friends who live there.
I moved to Hawai’i with just a backpack. I went on vacation and stayed for 3 years. I’m moving back in a few months.
Awesome! what island?
@@FitCrunchyMama I stayed a few months on the Big Island (Puna), stayed overnight in Maui before, ovine to Kauai. So much aloha! My experience felt like floating through the islands.
Where is your favorite free place to go see turtles? And whales?
Oh No ! One of those that forgot to go home.
😂
Hawaii charges tax on food, 4.124%, for home, property tax is the lowest in the nation, work for Costco, great company.
Thanks Bliss. This is true. We also love Costco. Appreciate the comment. Mahalo.
@@dv1216 FYI, I know where Costco is! Napili is a ghost town compared to KiHell!
are you rich?
Do it before kids. Once you have children on the mainland its game over for 18 years.
Haha. yep Red Leg. Exactly why we went when we did. We actually have a couple friends who have moved back to Maui a couple times with kids. I can't even imagine how difficult that would be. Appreciate the comment.
People give you mangos for free, but do you give anything back?
Of course. Giving and helping others is what it is all about.
40$ for watermelon?
Yup. No joke. It was a surprise to us all who were in line. Seem to be a rare event. Watermelon is not usually that on the island.
Maui doesn’t need to be promoted it’s way over crowded especially on the roads. I know you mean well, but....no.
Appreciate your feedback Ann. We want to share our experience of what it was like living on Maui for people that are already thinking about moving there. Trying to be helpful.
@@FitCrunchyMama I get it, but it’s more than what you share, it’s a culture not a how to. Everyone wants to be an Influencer on social media. Not pono
@@annmariewalker6881 We totally agree. So much to share for one video which is why we plan to share more videos about what you're saying. Thanks for the tip. Pono. We love yah.
