Chris nah man theres a lot of us who try to actually talk about Anthony's video instead of memeing on every video Fantano makes, especially considering this is his discussion channel, not his meme channel or his review channel
devil's advocating, but the argument is "if you boycott artists, it may make young Israelis question their governments actions and desire regime change "
downwithjedward yeah and that argument is retarded, because it has the exact opposite effect. It causes people to dislike the band and in a lot of cases gravitate closer towards sympathy to the other side.
yeah fair point too m8, although I don't know how the average Israeli feels towards Roger waters and pink Floyd due to their boycott. but yeah Roger waters certainly hasn't caused Regine change either
Every able bodied Israeli citizen serves in the IDF. So not only are you wrong about them attacking other countries, you're wrong about the people there. EVERY person attending that concert will be the people "attacking other countries".
Hi Anthony, I'm an Israeli citizen. been a fan of your channel pretty much since you started. love your new think pieces channel. You're dead on point with this one and let me explain. most of the israelis are just everyday normal-like human beings as in all of the world and like you mentioned, feel very alienated from the politicians, like in america and basically most of the world. most israelis feel and understand the suffering of palestinians in gaza and the west bank. the divide is on the solution, and wether the responsibility or the blame of the current situation is mostly ours or mostly theirs, whereas deep down everybody knows the blame's kinda on both sides. so with that in mind, like you said, denying a rock concert to the everyday normal person thinking it would change anything, is moronic and utterly dumb. and like you said, there are probably more reasons to boycott america. that being said, you should also bare in mind this: ken loach, roger waters and co will never boycott america, or china, or other big countries because of how big the market there is. israel, being the very small piece of land that it is, israelis are 7 million and palestinians 1 million and half - who cares about this very small market? so for them its actually genius, you pretty much dont do anything, you say you will never come here - and you gain political power or popularity. lastly I will say, we all want peace here, let that be clear and well known.
"The truth is somewhere in the middle!", "every side has its story!", "the world's not black and white!" (literally written above). Boycotting America is practically stupid as it would never work, but of course keep engineering your views on Waters and Loach's scheming for a bottom line, rather than actually learning any details on how boycott actually works.
Hey Anthony, I'm from Israel. Thanks for this video. You have some valid points, the first one about USA is true and almost no one talks about it! And everyone, please remember- 1. If you're not here you can't really know what is going on here 2. SO MANY citizens really want a change, really want peace. And me, as a teenage citizen, trying to do everything I can to make things better. Please don't see me as a monster just because I was happen to be born in a place where there is always war
Gili Rosin I agree! If someone is not living in that country, they cannot assume they know what the life there is like. This is why USA always has their hands in everyone’s business, trying to pretend they know what’s best for them by mixing themselves in and causing problems.
I was at the concert, front row, one of the best experiences of my life. I think there was one moment, during No Surprises, that can empathize the situation. Thom sings "bring down the government, they don't speak for us" only for a massive cheer from the audience. The Israeli audience knows that the government does not reflect on them as people, Israel's government has done some dark unjustified shit, and killed thousands of innocents. But the 50K people that were at the concert do not support any of it. And the same thing goes for Radiohead, even though they played in Israel - they didn't play music for the government, they played for the people. I am super grateful that Radiohead are mature enough to distinguish government and people.
I don't really give a shit if they perform in Israel. I'm Palestinian and I think radiohead should voice it's music to the public as free as possible. it's fair and it's civil. edit: they also played there several times before, so why should everyone fucking complain, huh?
Are you implying that, if given the chance, Hamas wouldn't bomb Israeli babies? If so, don't understand the situation, and should do your research before spewing some more bullshit.
So, by your logic, ALL Americans are responsible for the drone strikes and all of Trump's terrible decisions. America has done some things that are way worse than anything Israel has ever done, and I highly doubt you fully understand the situation here. I've gotten used to people thinking they are experts on the subject whilst they know jack shit about what is actually going on, so this doesn't really bother me, but next time, don't just spew random bullshit without doing some thorough research about what the situation actually is like. You don't like Israel, we get it, Radiohead evidently do or they like performing and being payed for it.
Vincecouk I doubt there's a big Radiohead fan base in North Korea, and if there was one the government probably wouldn't let the band play anyway so no, they have no reason to go there.
Cool vid, mate. I'd also like to add that Thom Yorke said that music shouldn't build borders between countries, rather bring them together ( I think that's what he said). It seems that people treat this as something that could trigger some war, despite it only being an hour long concert. I also completely agree with you saying that, by boycotting Israel, many could argue that you could boycott America, based on the same logic. In fact, it could be argued that (with that logic) musicians cannot play anywhere. It seems rather strange to me.
Hey Anthony, my name is Shahar and I'm from Israel. Radiohead visit is one of the best things happened this year. You know? I wish the situation here wasn't like this. I'm dreaming of a change as soon as possible. We're human beings, not animals. We do understand the Palestinian side. Shocking, ah? You'll be surprised to hear that we are actually trying to change something here. Even me, a 17 years old girl who can't vote yet. Guess what, you have no idea how it's like living here. God bless Radiohead.
While I as a Palestinian am deprived of anything near a “concert” and am sitting here worrying about how much of a misfortune it is to live under such trauma (it being the constant stress Israel causes me every single fucking day and I am not exaggerating, I’m just tired of it all) let alone living under a not-any-less-disgusting sort of “Palestinian authority”. So please to the Israeli snowflakes in the comment section, at least it’s almost merely controversies like this are what you have to worry about when it comes to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, so be thankful. I know this was 3 years ago, but I don’t think this discussion will be irrelevant anytime soon. Had to vent a little I guess. #freepalestine
I don't worry about controversies, I worry about a Hamas rocket destroying my house, killing my family, killing my friends, killing me. I am not here to say I'm suffering more than you, I am here to say that we are both on this boat together, we both suffer from this war, and hopefully we'll both enjoy the peace
I really really hope you all acquire safety and freedom... Makes me feel grateful for the situation in my country Philippines. We're not doing that well but it's better than being threatened to be bombed..
@@whydoi4088 You don't need to worry about that because the number 1 imperialist nation in the world is supporting your every move, including your top shelf defence structure aka the Iron Dome, which allows you to almost always go to concerts in peace. Meanwhile, the Palestinians are defenseless and are displaced and murdered at almost unrivaled numbers while their infrastructure crumbles to dust from your missiles and bombs. Get real. Go fuck yourself.
Regardless on your stance on the Israeli government they shouldn't punish the fans on something you disagree on, this shouldnt even be brought into question. Radiohead, hell any artist should play where they please.
The difference between Israel and the rest of the world is BDS. The Palestinian people have specifically asked, the rest of the world, to boycot, divest and sanction Israel. They are literally asking people who care about their plight, to no give their money to Israel. That's why bands who are anti opression shouldn't play in Israel. America is bad too, is a poor excuse because native Americans don't have a BDS campaign. I know this is an old video, but clearly more relevant than ever. Artist who still go to Israel support their genocide, even if there is a ceasefire.
Queen took a load of shit for playing South Africa during Apartheid, as did Paul Simon for using SA musicians on Graceland. I think Queen were wrong to do so (even though I'm a massive fan of their early albums) but Paul Simon arguably HELPED the anti apartheid cause by promoting the collaboration of black SA musicians and a white superstar. Solution: Radio Head should record an anti illegal-occupation album with a Palestinian backing group, tour that in Israel and see how it's received. My guess is they'd be branded anti-Semites, because we all know you can't voice a reasonable and legitimate criticism of Israel's unjustifiable foreign policy without someone playing the You're-a-Nazi card to shut down the argument.
I must say, the argument you lay out in the first part of this video was not what I expected at all, and I really appreciate the that, it was thought provoking.
Radiohead played AZ when the SB1070 fight was going on. Many artists including RATM said they wouldn't play AZ during that time, but with that logic why would they play anywhere in the US or other western nations. Thom's response is spot on.
I think the main reason that people are jumping on this issue in particular is that Thom has always been an outspoken human rights advocate and some see this move to play in Israel as antithetical to his previous political alignment.
I am from Israel, and I can say I support almost everything Anthony said here. I will also go see Radiohead live on July 19th which is also my birthday.
actually shit man you're right - it's not propaganda if it's truth... ...except if we're talking about if they play most of their material and the king of limbs - *then* it becomes propaganda.
Great commentary. Noname preformed in Israel a few months ago and made a similar comment: "Today I have a show in Israel. I know this is upsetting for many to hear but I believe being born under a corrupt government shouldn't isolate the people from art and joy. The people aren't the states practices. I still perform in the United States." That fact that so many americans can tell artists not to preform in Israel yet not feel like complete hypocrites is amazing to me.
Massive Attack did live concerts in Lebanon or Jordan during the 2014 war, and I think that they were the only ones who made the decision to go to the Middle East and organize a charity concert.
I just want to mention Radiohead fans in Israel Are very left wing people. And we all shouted the famous "they don't speak for us" line... together. Without regarding the complicated Palestinian problem which we care about a lot more than most BDS protesters... the war here is our life and our children's life and we do protest and wish it would end. We do not support Netanyahu or violence against anyone.
Millions of bands played in Israel in the past and Radiohead themselves had played there before and nothing happened, I think everything that's been going on recently has brought people to a place of sensitivity where everything looks like a political act and I can understand that . But thinking that Radiohead supports the Israel war on palestinians just because they are playing there is ridiculous. They are carrying guitars ,not rifles to sell
Antony, much respect for mentioning the oppression that Palestinians face on a daily basis. However, what I think you're missing in your analysis is that the BDS movement has been quite successful since it began in 2005. It was launched by 170 civil society organizations, so it is very representative of the demands of the Palestinian people. This movement was also inspired by the fight against Apartheid South Africa, and how the boycott there proved succesful. There are attempts to label this movement as anti-semitic in order to criminalize anyone who wants to boycott israel. Actually if you read more you will realize that there is a war on BDS- because of how succesful its been! Thom Yorke insulted and put his middle finger up to fans that raised Palestinian flags in one of his recent UK concerts. He is spitting in the face of the indigenous people who, even if they wanted to go watch his concert, wouldn't be allowed to because of the apartheid checkpoints. If he really wants to do something useful then he should listen to the demands of the oppressed people, rather than impose his colonial mentality on us and tell us that he knows whats best.
I am a jew from Israel, opposing the state of Israel isn't anti-semetic. On the other hand (to you there in the US) opposing black lives matters movment isn't white supremacy and opposing feminism isn't sexist.
I have been saying this for ages. I am from Britain and I always see British people focusing on this conflict between two small countries in the Middle East in spite of the fact that Britain itself has been the source of terrible oppression historically and continues to bomb innocent civilians, and in this very century took part in a war that killed millions of people. I don't support Netanyahu's government in Israel by any means but the amount of attention and hatred the country gets for this war feels inherently anti-Semitic. There are a number of countries that do far worse than Israel within the western world. Turkey, for example, are far more oppressive of Kurdistan, yet I don't think I've ever seen a non Turkish/Kurdish person even acknowledge the conflict. Essentially, Israel is no different to any of the big western countries, yet I only see people calling for Israel to be boycotted. On and the idea that Israel is an apartheid state is ridiculous. Anyone who says this has never been to Israel. It is institutionally racist, like America, but no where near apartheid. There is no segregation and people are free to protest whatever they want. When I went to Tel Aviv I passed by a bunch of people waving Palestinian flags and protesting the conflict. That doesn't sound like apartheid to me.
Can everyone stop calling the USA America? America is an entire continent, everytime you call the country like that you're just ignoring tons of other places. You're not America, c'mon
When I saw Radiohead in the UK last week, there was a huge response in No Surprises to the line 'Bring down the government'. While they're not hugely political in their music most of the time, Radiohead certainly do have a message and lines like this can still be seen as getting it across. Good points Anthony
I'm from Israel and thanks. As someone who lives here I can tell you half the people want peace and hate what's going on. But half is not enough, as you have learned last november. btw - the first place where Creep was a hit was in israel, and also johnny greenwood is married to an israeli and lives here half of his time. I guess it helps
Radiohead should take this opportunity to advocate for a two-state solution and call out the evil-doings of the Israel gov and the Palestine gov. Also, call the US out too. Call the US a threat to world peace, rightfully so.
Second point just a glance at radiohead reddit will show you how unsympathetic many of the fans are to Palestine, also there is Thom insulting pro Palestinian fans in concert
I don't know how I missed this video at the time, but nobody seems to be addressing this glaring point so I feel I should bring it up. The reason there is a pressure to boycott Israel, including culturally through the arts, is because that's what a broad coalition of Palestinian civil society has called us to do. Yes there are terrible regimes throughout the world , but the huge distinction is that Palestinian society has organized and said "This is what will help us, this is what we need the world to do". If there is another boycott organized by an indigenous people in another one of these repressive states by all means, we shouldn't play/visit/etc there either, but that isn't happening. People refused to play in Sun City because black south africans asked the world not to, we should respect the same plea in Palestine.
You know Radiohead sort of owes its success to Israel right? Israeli producer Yoav Kutner played Creep extensively on the radio, making It a hit, and soon the world followed, in fact, their first international show was in Tel Aviv, jonny even met his wife there
the argument was about the fans. its not about anyone's legitimacy at all; it is about a 'musical protest'. if any musician is against a country's diplomacy , a democratic country in this case, he has the right to his opinion by not performing there. but you cannot devide the 'fans' from the country and the government the chose...
I think there is a big difference between performing a private party for the dictator of Kazakhstan (which is just a paycheck) and playing a public concert in A Country That Does Bad Things. Playing a concert in Austin, TX is a bit different than playing Donald Trump's inauguration, just like playing Tel Aviv is no endorsement of the Israeli government's apartheid policy.
I agree essentially with your points, but I think we shouldn't let Thom Yorke off so easily. Thom's response to criticism has been reactionary and resentful. If the good in Radiohead performing in Israel is supposedly to influence dialogue or change, what does Thom flipping off people (presumably also fans, but not necessarily) holding up Palestinian flags at their concert, growling resentfully "some fucking people.." into the microphone, accomplish? I agree that isolation of a group of people is not necessarily effective for change or dialogue, but it seems that Thom's behavior (tied to Radiohead's performance) will only encourage resentment of criticisms, resentment of any call for change, and resentment of the Palestinian people. Like you said, people here as elsewhere don't need much motivation to ignore global issues that seem far off (or that just conveniently miss their secure domain); so what does reinforcing that will to ignore and intensifying it into an image of noble resistance to evil moralistic progressive hypocrisy accomplish when it stays in the same arena of moralism, just at the other end?
So many concerts get canceled because pressure from BDS pushers. Thom is one of the most vocalised artists to stand against it. so that's way it's a headline
@ MM - Because a short distance from where they are playing, Palestinian kids are being tortured in Israeli dungeons, so their screams might disrupt the performance.
Originally I thought this was a dumb question (i still think it is) but thinking more depth about is really surprising how much debate can we get from this
This is like when all the musicians said to Paul Simon "Hey man don't make Graceland in South Africa that's bad and racist", like Paul Simon not making Graceland there was the thing Mandela needed, instead of, I dunno, military and social and political upheaval backed by massive international sanctions. I do understand the argument popular opinion--->government action, but as our melonheaded-friend points out, things have gotten mighty oligarchical, and I don't think Radiohead are gonna change that.
What this kind of reminds me of is the rebel sports tours to South Africa during their apartheid era, where they were banned from playing international cricket and rugby. Several sides from places like England, New Zealand and Australia went over there to play unofficially and attracted a lot of negative coverage over it. The difference there was that the South African sports boards were actively supporting the apartheid regimes. What triggered the boycotts was that they refused to play England because one of the players was a Cape Coloured South African who had been playing cricket in England. One of the other differences was that one of the rebel cricket sides was from the Caribbean and was obviously filled with black players. By going over there and playing they were effectively validating apartheid politics. There's none of that at work with Radiohead playing in Israel. While I don't like the idea of it myself, ultimately I don't think playing a concert is in any way supporting the Palestine situation and so there isn't anything """wrong""" with it.
Benjamin Netanyahu couldn't give less of a fuck about Radiohead performing in Israel. Alienating and upsetting your fans over situations out of their control won't change a thing. The biggest thing boycotting a performance in Israel could possibly accomplish is a headline that will be forgotten in half the time it took to publish.
Let’s make this simple so the people who are strangely conflicting with ending the genocide of Palestinians. Boycott Israel and tell Congress to stop funding their military. It’s not complicated. And to clarify, the bds band boycotts are cultural, not economical.
Hey Anthony! I live in Israel, i was born here and in Israel im actually considered as left wing (it means Liberal, Democrat) im actually fully disagree with my government actions, but here's something i want to point out: the case is way more complex than you might think, i mean there's no right or wrong, people dont understand that we actually cant reach an agreement with Hamas and Gazah, right now Gazah strip is controlled by a terror organization, and there's no case we can stop the Occupations due to a reasons that it will be a war zone
I find it interesting that people are angry at Radiohead for performing in Israel, but it's OK when Sting performs for tyrant Islam Karimov's daughters, when Roger Waters performs in China & The Rolling Stones perform in Cuba among many other examples? I know leftwing ideologues are biased as hell, but the occassional dose of objectivity would be nice.
I think alot of people should come see for themselves whats really going on here in israel. i served the idf in a combat unit and the soldiers dont just go and shoot people (99% wont shoot a bullet outside of training for the whole service) to be fair there are people that i see as less worthy of serving because of there actions to innocent palestinians but they wont kill people for nothing (and the few who did are in jail for murder, I personally think they are the same as a terrorist) but the majority of the violence comes from the palestinians I assure you just to be clear as a fact there are 3 types of areas with the whole israeli palestinian situation C- places like tel aviv , palestinians CAN pass the "border" to come work and do whatever (yes you do need the papers needed to be clear to pass) B- places inside "palestine" (or whatever you wanna call it) after the fence (it really is a fence) where israelis and Palestinians can both be drive the same roads use the same gas stations and so on A- inside palestinian cities where it is extremely illegal for an israeli citizen to be and dangerous cause you will get killed for sure so tell me who has more freedom of movement around here? i dont see people killing arabs here in tel aviv for no reason, but if i go inside nablus ill be dead in an hour! you wont belive how many palestinians cooperate with israel and risk there own lives to give info to help because they know that they are living under terrorist groups infact i even have arab friends we share workplaces and accept our differences.. its not an issue if you accept that someone is different (and both sides can get that wrong) ill just close this up with and experience I had once in my service you get all these "leftists" around Palestinian citys who come to help em out and try to "expose" the idf for bad things going on but most of the time theyll just straight up fake a video of "the idf breaking into a palestinian store and robbing it or some shit" because they see that nothing really goes on.. most of the time its just a dumb kid throwing rocks at cars not a full on isis attack. but sometimes they see whats really going on, some of them realize that its all propaganda and what they believe is a lie... check your facts people, come see it for yourselves if you dont believe me
I'm a Palestinian living in America and I am obviously pro Palestine. Before watching this I was on the other side of this argument but I must say you made some really good points melon.
Hey melon, I agree with your opinion and love the videos you've been releasing on this channel. I watch them while I drive, and have not yet gotten in an accident while doing so
It really just boils down to raising awareness about the topic and actively providing aid to Palestinians. Most Americans don’t even know where the region is on a map. We have to start from the beginning and educate people on why the Israeli government as well as the American government are perpetuating war and murder on a daily basis.
Death Grips North Korean Tour 2017
This but unironically.
I'd love to see that lmao

Totally agree but as a russian i don't understand why Radiohead refuse to go in Russia in the same situation.
Honestly Thom Yorke seems like he has some really cool views
i like your picture
As if there's already enough reason to love Radiohead. That's just amazing.
גם אני הייתי שורה ראשונה איזה כיף היה אחי

Johnny Greenwood is married to an Israeli and plays in an Israeli orchestra
He Does Not Play In An Israeli Orchestra
He made an album with Dudu Tasa, an israeli artist.
I heard he ate Israeli pizza once, must be an inside job.
That's why Radiohead have the attitude of "you don't know what you're talking about 🖕" ........ 😕
The band can play in whatever country they chose. Why the Guardian struggle with this, I don't know. Should a band play in China? (human rights issues, lax animal rights laws). nothing unethical about brexit fella
falklands war? what the fuck?
Radiohead are a very good band but I really believe that Tom Yorke is a horrible person very unlikeable individual and politically hypocritical
I find him as a likable asshole.
Ma che cazzo stai a di
This video has aged really well! FREE PALESTINE! 🇵🇸
They can play where they like.
Ray Goodwin North Korea?
Vincecouk I doubt there's a big Radiohead fan base in North Korea, and if there was one the government probably wouldn't let the band play anyway so no, they have no reason to go there.
And I can say about that what I like

Underrated comment 👑
מקווה שהשירות עבר בשלום (-;
We need more people like you. People are misunderstood about Radiohead. They were performing for the fans and the music not politics.
They better play 2+2=5
and they did ;)
Lmao that was the first song
@@sincerelyme1193 assuming he lives in the west bank the threat of him being bombed is extremely low
Radiohead, hell any artist should play where they please.
as an israeli radiohead fan myself i completley agree.
There is still no genocide in Gaza and also FUCK BDS
@@AdamGYodaWars no genocide in Gaza? are you living under a rock or just willingly blind?
"There is a lot to say about this, but in the end, we played some music"
Thom Yorke right before playing Karma Police at Tel-Aviv yesterday
I'm not Black I'm a *Melonhead*...................... okay 😕
Say What Again i Dare you i Double Dare you! L
Say What Again i Dare you i Double Dare you! W
Stop Anthony Fantano
But if Anthony Fandango was black would that make him a Melaninhead?
Say What Again i Dare you i Double Dare you!
What?
I must say, the argument you lay out in the first part of this video was not what I expected at all, and I really appreciate the that, it was thought provoking.
I can confirm that Radiohead should play in Israel because my band is in Israel and we are Radiohead.
Patrick Hogan You are nothing.
Radiohead played AZ when the SB1070 fight was going on. Many artists including RATM said they wouldn't play AZ during that time, but with that logic why would they play anywhere in the US or other western nations. Thom's response is spot on.
I saw Radiohead perform in Israel in the summer of 2000 and it was totally awesome. The fans of Israel adore Radiohead.
I think the main reason that people are jumping on this issue in particular is that Thom has always been an outspoken human rights advocate and some see this move to play in Israel as antithetical to his previous political alignment.
finally someone with logic....you are the first person I have seen with this viewpoint besides the band.
And we back.
And we back, and we back, and we back, and we back, and we back.
BJCDavis2777 even better than the last time babyyyyy (dunno if those are the right lyrics)
TEN. DAMN. DAYS......
I am from Israel, and I can say I support almost everything Anthony said here. I will also go see Radiohead live on July 19th which is also my birthday.
Should Radiohead Perform In Apartheid South Africa???
When Roger Waters stops performing in Dubai, I'll start boycotting Radiohead.
Why
radiohead should play in north korea
Loł. I hear that in North Korea, the only music they're allowed to listen to is propaganda songs
radiohead only play propaganda songs, about themselves. because their music is so good.
i'm not sure if you completely understand what propaganda is
actually shit man you're right - it's not propaganda if it's truth...
...except if we're talking about if they play most of their material and the king of limbs - *then* it becomes propaganda.

he just stated that there is a problem in the israel-palestine conflict without siding with anyone
Here from 7 years in the future... All i can do is maniacally laugh while shaking my head and sobbing simultaneously
Great commentary.
Noname preformed in Israel a few months ago and made a similar comment:
"Today I have a show in Israel. I know this is upsetting for many to hear but I believe being born under a corrupt government shouldn't isolate the people from art and joy. The people aren't the states practices.
I still perform in the United States."
That fact that so many americans can tell artists not to preform in Israel yet not feel like complete hypocrites is amazing to me.
They're not playing for Israel, they're playing for their fans in Israel.
Massive Attack did live concerts in Lebanon or Jordan during the 2014 war, and I think that they were the only ones who made the decision to go to the Middle East and organize a charity concert.
this aged well
I already bought a ticket tho....
Should Fantano perform in Nazi Germany?
He probably would love to go, he's a white supremacist skinghead nazi. He always gives black people bad ratings, MBDTF for example.
He'd get executed for marrying a black woman
Anthony still hasn't reviewed the Mein Kampf audiobook
gabriel how did this get any likes.
Poke Kay he surely won't play in imperialist England, those motherfuckers downed people from all over the world
The answer is yes, of course, absolutely
racist neckbeard spotted
How much of a brainlet do you have to be to think anti-zionism is racist
Well, Radiohead did perform in Israel, music is universal it doesn't concern politics, religion, war... music is made by the people for the people.
i made the mistake of clicking "newest first" who fucking cares about politics this is radiohead
I FUCKING KNOW RIGHHTT, EXACTLYYY
Anthony Fantano completely missing the point of BDS
I find that music is a great way to create unity through a shared love of it
Radthony Headtano
Just for clarification, opposing Israel isn't the same as being anti semitic
Bob Of The Light yes it is
musicalman1995 Nope, are Jews in Israel opposing occupation are anti semitic?
so if you don't like someone who's jewish for reasons that don't have anything to do with their religion is antisemitic?
*WORD*
Good points Anthony
radiohead isn’t responsible for what the governemnt does. the citizens shouldnt be punished for what there government does
I'm from Israel and thanks.
Its so clear by your comment you know nothing about that conflict
This is somehow relatable again.
if you only If you only understand politics as you understand music...
sorry about the comment i meant If you only understand politics as you understand music
Why doesnt Roger Waters play Gaza?
If im not mistaken, great Britain also supports Israel
Here before the channel gets deleted again
You know Radiohead sort of owes its success to Israel right? Israeli producer Yoav Kutner played Creep extensively on the radio, making It a hit, and soon the world followed, in fact, their first international show was in Tel Aviv, jonny even met his wife there
You shouldn’t boycott Israel or 1939 Germany or North Korea or Apartheid South Africa 😊😊 😅
the argument was about the fans. its not about anyone's legitimacy at all; it is about a 'musical protest'. if any musician is against a country's diplomacy , a democratic country in this case, he has the right to his opinion by not performing there. but you cannot devide the 'fans' from the country and the government the chose...
I've gained so much respect for you after this
It really breaks my heart seeing Thom Yorke age ...
Its not apartheid.
Of course they should perform. Its a gig for music fans plain and simple.
Absolutely love the content thrown out on this channel! Keep it up Fantano!
Why is this being questioned?
So many concerts get canceled because pressure from BDS pushers. Thom is one of the most vocalised artists to stand against it. so that's way it's a headline
@ MM - Because a short distance from where they are playing, Palestinian kids are being tortured in Israeli dungeons, so their screams might disrupt the performance.
mrsbrown andhercat Woah man I'd love to know where you get your information from!
rofl where did u read this science fiction? we are not torturing criminals like america
Originally I thought this was a dumb question (i still think it is) but thinking more depth about is really surprising how much debate can we get from this
Agree with your first point but I don't think the second one holds. Cultural and academic boycott played a role in ending South African apartheid.
Wow I really appreciate your view on this. Thank you!
A rare Fantano good take. This aged well.
#freecalchuchesta nigga I know you kidnapped my nigga
>Anthony Fantano hates Duck Dynasty
Well then, this has shocked me more than any amount of violence or terrorism.
I find it interesting that people are angry at Radiohead for performing in Israel, but it's OK when Sting performs for tyrant Islam Karimov's daughters, when Roger Waters performs in China & The Rolling Stones perform in Cuba among many other examples? I know leftwing ideologues are biased as hell, but the occassional dose of objectivity would be nice.
and when shit hits the fan radio silence
I think alot of people should come see for themselves whats really going on here in israel.
i served the idf in a combat unit and the soldiers dont just go and shoot people (99% wont shoot a bullet outside of training for the whole service)
to be fair there are people that i see as less worthy of serving because of there actions to innocent palestinians but they wont kill people for nothing (and the few who did are in jail for murder, I personally think they are the same as a terrorist)
but the majority of the violence comes from the palestinians I assure you
just to be clear as a fact there are 3 types of areas with the whole israeli palestinian situation
C- places like tel aviv , palestinians CAN pass the "border" to come work and do whatever (yes you do need the papers needed to be clear to pass)
B- places inside "palestine" (or whatever you wanna call it) after the fence (it really is a fence) where israelis and Palestinians can both be drive the same roads use the same gas stations and so on
A- inside palestinian cities where it is extremely illegal for an israeli citizen to be and dangerous cause you will get killed for sure
so tell me who has more freedom of movement around here?
i dont see people killing arabs here in tel aviv for no reason, but if i go inside nablus ill be dead in an hour!
you wont belive how many palestinians cooperate with israel and risk there own lives to give info to help because they know that they are living under terrorist groups
infact i even have arab friends we share workplaces and accept our differences.. its not an issue if you accept that someone is different (and both sides can get that wrong)
ill just close this up with and experience I had once in my service
you get all these "leftists" around Palestinian citys who come to help em out and try to "expose" the idf for bad things going on
but most of the time theyll just straight up fake a video of "the idf breaking into a palestinian store and robbing it or some shit"
because they see that nothing really goes on.. most of the time its just a dumb kid throwing rocks at cars not a full on isis attack.
but sometimes they see whats really going on, some of them realize that its all propaganda and what they believe is a lie...
check your facts people, come see it for yourselves if you dont believe me
xr2kid dude really stop listening to fake news and come see for yourdelf
xr2kid you should delete this reply, you're embarassing yourself
I'm a Palestinian living in America and I am obviously pro Palestine. Before watching this I was on the other side of this argument but I must say you made some really good points melon.
We love you Thom, thanks for coming to Israel 🇮🇱

Legitimately surprised that Fantano has this opinion.
