It's never a mistake doing what you love. I've been a photographer for nearly 50 years, and sometimes just getting a snapshot is all you need for your memories. Not ever picture needs to be portfolio worthy. Some of favorite pictures have horrible composition, but brings back a ton of awesome memories.
Aside from the weather…NFLD is definitely Canada’s jewel……..worked (mineral exploration) and travelled the Island amazing place and the people are “the best kind” cheers
I understand you and I feel your struggling with the cold. In those conditions it's easy to feel frustrated and left the place after no signs of better weather but you practiced the art of the patience and get images and show them to us! Images 14 and 19 are very nice in my opinion.
Wow. Thank you for being here. I just lost my job today and your video has saved me for a bit. It doesn't feel it, but I'll find where I need to be again. Thank you.
I went to Killarney Prov. Park last November.. usually ~3c it was real nice having a trailer to hide in. But it rained a lot, and I was wet pretty much all the time. After a while even the dry clothes I tried to reserve for sleeping got moist. Just part of living with the outdoors. It is amazing how your body will adapt if you let it though. 5c becomes comfy and warm after a while, and 8c becomes unbearably hot!
Another wonderful video! the sentiment behind it all is very inspiring! The black and white images turned out really great but that last shot was really fantastic! Looking forward to the next installment. Cheers!
Good morning Alex 🌈 I'm sorry you had such a long stretch of cold crappy weather, and admire your stick-to-it-ness. It paid off. Like that you are seeing the smaller details in nature and the abstract photos you get. Hands down my favourite is #14 though! Hi Sophie.
Great video Alex! Love the story telling of the journey. I feel a bit guilty watching you freeze though, as I’m literally watching this while laying on the beach in sunny Florida. Looking forward to the Colorado workshop.
Great video. Did you need a passport to get into Canada? When I saw the hole in the iceberg I became eager for the sun star shot. And yes it seems you learn something about photography each day. Great images, great video, and keep ‘em coming.
I live in Central Newfoundland. I have always said that outdoor clothing companies should test their gear in Newfoundland. I have lived in Yellowknife and walked to work at -40c. the temps here in winter when it gets -20c or colder and the wind picks up is twice as cold. This place is beautiful and I am starting to do photography tours next year starting in spring 2025.
I think my favourite images in this video are the ones at 25:14 and 25:31. As always, I really enjoyed your video, and I love what you said: "Don't stress over the things you don't have control over." I have been fighting depression for quite some time now and recently started my own channel to beat it, even though I couldn't get rid of the stressful thoughts that maybe I am too late to start a channel, and maybe I should go back to my old job. But watching this video made me feel better. So, thank you for that.
Thanks for sharing. Photography helps me a lot when dealing with those thoughts and experiences. Just gotta actually get yourself out there. I hope things are improving for you.
Picture 10 was something different. It will be a good idea if your take more picture with abstract. But picture 14 stole my heart. Great job on everything
Hi Alex - It was good to see the sun finally come out in this episode. I was up there in April for the eclipse and it pretty much rained every day...except for the eclipse day, but I had to drive over to the Western side of the island. Hoping to get up there in the Summer at some point for icebergs and Puffins. Thanks for sharing this with us!
I was really worried when I saw how depressed you got after nine days of cold, no sun and Tim Horton for company. I’m from the UK and have no idea what Tim Horton has to offer but I’ll Google it in a moment. The change that came over you when the sun finally appeared was great to see. I loved all the images and it was a great video. Don’t lose heart! But you don’t need me to tell you that, do you?
Wow...what a week you had, holy cow. That last image of the evening sunset over the berg, very nice. That very last one was cool too, like an arrow pointing to the berg. I hope Labrador goes better. Moose!
Stunning! I got three things though- first- there are no icebergs in Alberta that I know of. Second - my ex is named Roger 😂. And third- you are alive so stop whining, please 😊😂
This winter coming is supposed to be a colder winter with more Snow and we had last Two years, temperature in the winter should mean next spring we should get more pack ice & icebergs next spring if the distance forecast is correct, I would recommend that you would come two weeks earlier next year at a minimum to see better ice conditions, but I would not recommend camping in your car any earlier season that you did already, this year was unusually warm early in the season with an early spring, it is possible around March around the great Northern Peninsula to get temperatures around -10°C in March lot of times we have in early March we have some of our worst snowstorms of the winter in this part of the islands, I know everywhere else Canada it is spring, but not here on the great Northern Peninsula, if you want to see Arctic pack ice & harp seals at the same time you need to come early in the season, with the two last snowstorms of the year, we talk about Sheila‘s brush and the white coat patch, a roughly round St. Patrick’s Day when the seals arrive off coast.
Nice trip and images 😍. One question: why landscape photographers like you and Gavin and so many others always use the lens hood mounted backwards aka the wrong way? I simply don’t get it 🤷🏼♂️. It’s the best protection of the front element and if you open that slider of the hood you can even operate a c-pol filter directly.
I understand your frustration with the weather. I have a normal job, and it seems nearly every weekend goes to crap. Still, I love your narrative to put to your videos. I still miss Sophia, she would have made those boring days a bit better. Can't wait until the next instalment.
Oh yeah, moose are huge! Take care driving, especially at dusk or night. You don't want to hit one. They're so tall the nose of your car goes under their bully and they end up in your lap. A lot of people have been killed this way.
If I can add one thing. Please, please, please loose the nose ring. That is NOT you from your looks and demeanor, I would feel the same if you had tats all over your face, it’s just not you. I know you feel you wanted /needed it for some reason and that’s your choice but from a web observer it takes away from you as a sales person( cause that is what you are, trying to either sell your photos, or subscriptions or however you make $.) but IMHO it’s just not becoming. In the beginning of your video you mentioned another photographer ( just watched his latest video of Newfoundland) and your probable not trying to emulate him but his video was besides being a summation of his stay there he also showed how he took his shots and videos and why he did and what to include and not include. I don’t know if that is/was your similar intention but if you did not watch it( his latest video) then you probably should. You info is interesting not NOT as much so, but I did subscribe and one the whole like your site. STAY SAFE.
The grab line "Was coming to Newfoundland worth it" is some what insulting to some. Right off the top it has negative connotations! That's all I'll say. I did not watch,

You had so many wonderful drone shots of the icebergs. Just beautiful. Pick any one and you got a winning shot. Enjoying your channel, Alex.

Great video man. Love the images, b roll, and definitely appreciate the overall message.
Thanks so much Brent

Neverrrr! You just have to learn to appreciate the unique beauty of the island in the sun and the rain. 😊❤

Thanks Marcial!
I absolutely love your content. Your skills, your honesty. Thank you for sharing!
So nice of you, thank you!
Awesome images.
I feel your pain on cold days that never end. I live in Michigan. It's pretty much gray for 4-6 months during the cold season.
It was the sleeping in my vehicle that really pushed me over the edge
This series is really great, Alex. No matter the misery, your core enthusiasm is such joy to watch, no matter where it takes you.
thanks so much Andrew :)
You got the Pay Off in the end! Patience is a virtue and you were able to reap the rewards of waiting for the light! Thanks for taking me along!
Your longer videos are so good. I absolutely love the history segments. Thank you for putting all the work that you do into these.
Thanks so much Richard. They are definitely a lot more work
The beauty of photography is that every moment is a potential photo. Nice video
Wow. Thank you for being here. I just lost my job today and your video has saved me for a bit. It doesn't feel it, but I'll find where I need to be again. Thank you.

The B&W of the berg and the coast towards the end is very nice. I also like the hut at the end. Great images.
Many thanks!
Image 12 with the rock under the cracked ice is a really nice shot. Lovely stuff
This episode can be renamed: Cabin fever in a Van.. I enjoyed the history lesson.

photography is great as usual. Positive affirmation messages are also wonderful to hear.
Thank you kindly!
Were you there around 18 May photographing icebergs around the white cape St.Lunaire-Griquet area.
Great video Alex! Love the story telling of the journey. I feel a bit guilty watching you freeze though, as I’m literally watching this while laying on the beach in sunny Florida. Looking forward to the Colorado workshop.
See you soon and then I get to watch you freeze!! if we are lucky that is :)

Yeah you need a passport
Thanks for the magnificent shots and for bearing the cold.
It is ridiculously hot here.

I am thankfully warm now, don't worry :)

Always have time for Tim Horton's ....... Yup that saying goes back a few years. Great video and thanks for the Viking History lesson👍👍😎
I hope you can add your quote as an insert in your iceberg photos! You did it!
Last image definitely my fav. Thanks for taking me to Newfoundland, it's a beautiful place. 20 deg C would be nice though 😆👍
The last image? What a surprise! Thanks Marty
