- Now nearly forgotten, “The Plains of Waterloo” once enjoyed huge popularity. The song uses 18 verses to detail the battle of Waterloo, Sunday, June 18th 1815, when Napoleon was defeated by the armies of the Seventh Coalition (consisting mainly of Brits and Prussians). There are many variants of the lyrics as well as of the melody, but old sources assure us that the one used here is “the tune preferred and mostly sung by the Waterloo heroes”.
On August 21, 2015 there will be a great ball in Stockholm focussing on the battle. We plan, among other things, to perform additional verses of this song. The orchestra Yttermyrorna will accompany the song as well as play to the dances.
We hope to attract many of those who reenacted the battle. Do come to Stockholm and celebrate with us! For more information see www.xn--empirsl...
