@VideoGameRestoration Just curious, is the design with the magnet a way of getting around the old switch snapping is or is it a copyright issue rather than just using the original switch design. My main fear with this is the possibility of losing the magnet or it falling of and potentially causing issues to the mother board or disc drive. I'm just a bit warry of a potential lose magnet. It might lose a bit of the ease to install factor but a possible solution could be a special bracket that you could install on to the peg that would hold the magnet as well as help keep it aligned could help or on a more extreme a whole new replacement lid that would have the magnet installed by default, though I could see that Making the mod a bit less beginner friendly as well as more costly
I've been following you for a while but this one needs a comment. Not only you come up with a really good idea, but it's actually affordable, you show a few tricks and troubleshooting, and you speak about the other methods ( which I already used for personnal needs but totally never thought of the 2 discs games ), video game restoration industry needs more people like you ! Cheers from France mate.
now this is something i hoped and prayed for for years, those flimsy little pieces of plastic are destined for breakage, its nice to finally have a more potentially permanent solution. Thank you for your work-and for making it VERY reasonably priced! Definitely picking up some DIY kits lol.
It looks to me that you could probably created a more narrow hole spacing and turn the reed switch vertical to avoid having to snip the plastic tabs. Granted it would take little bit of placement consideration to make sure the lid lever doesn't physically press against it causing it to flex, but I absolutely know you could figure that out and overcome it.
Awesome fix! Do you have any info on where to get/how to make replacement cables for this chip? I picked up a cube on ebay that's missing this assembly entirely, including the wires that connect it to the main disc drive board and I really wanna get it spinning again.
Nobody has ever told me to open the door so I always have it closed on every GC I work on. Does it matter if there’s no disc inside? I can’t figure out what could possibly happen otherwise.
1. Replace the switch even tho current one is still working 2. Sell the old switch for 500% profit (Idk if its exactly 500. Someone explain it if u want)
This is cool! I’ll wait for the next rendition, I don’t want to cut my spice orange GameCube.
Can't blame ya!

Now you know for next time!

We definitely need more replacements parts as in the future thier going to get harder and harder to find
Definitely! On to the next project!
Why not a switch on the side ?

That was exactly my thinking for the next model!
This is great! Definitely gonna keep this in mind if I ever need it!
GREAT JOB ! Sometimes it is the little things that make a big difference.
Thank you! Exactly my thinking!
I'm pretty sure this was happening to my Gamecube.. so I Ended up buying a Gen 1 WII. I still have the gamecube though
I did the paperclip trick while I wait for it come in the mail, it takes about two week for it come from Canada to NY
Wow this rules, I'm really happy to see this kind of effort to into vg preservation
Absolutely! We can't let these end up in land fills for easy problems!

Oh man! Unfortunately I don't know where you could find those
@@VideoGameRestoration Do you know the size and type of connector you put on the chip? I could probably work backwards from there.
@@dogomancer it's a S3B-ZR connector!
@@VideoGameRestoration Awesome, thank you!
Game bits are also included in the iFixit kits
Yes you're absolutely right!
Outstanding
Thank you my friend
I didnt know this existed. I fixed one by just soldering a switch inside the gamecube.
I’d buy this but it can’t be shipped to Italy
It can now 😎 Just made the changes!
Can you make a dreamcast conrtoller port replacememt
Maybe? Haha I have a feeling they exist already!
@@VideoGameRestorationonly for the PSU it does from what I’m aware of at least
@@VideoGameRestoration just the PSU. Though i have no idea why anyone needs a controller port replacement, they're pretty common lol.
There are those who only ever put the lid on with the door closed.
Risk takers I'd say 😂

@VIRACYTV You can break the switch!(more so the original) It's all about angles I guess

You gotta love it when people bite artwork.... like that isn't obviously stolen from nintendos mario sticker on the back of the n64...
You could just repair the old switch.
