    He was having a recording studio built, and many singers were interested in recording for him. As well, he wanted to do more song writing. He would have become a much bigger name in the music biz.

    I don't think anyone is saying he is the first, but he appears to be the first to outline a vision of how the music video could change the business and how artists would need to tailor their performances in the future.

    In the 40's and early 50's there were "Soundies"---music videos,and during the 1980's AMC used to show them on cable,with Lefty Frizell singing Always Late.

    Not to knock the guy who gave us Chantilly lace and white lightening, but I've seen plenty of videos recored by Glenn Miller that didn't look like live performances.
