มุมมอง 5327 ปีที่แล้ว
The tale end of a performance by guitarist Tommy Allsup of "Gotta Travel On," which was used as the opening song for Buddy Holly during the infamous Winter Dance Party tour in early 1959. Tommy's life was spared when he lost a coin flip following the tour's show at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. Holly, Ritchie Valens, J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson and pilot Roger Peterson died in a s...

Rochester Chamber Toastmasters: And So On
From the very first opening of "Chantilly Lace" when you hear "Hellloo, Baa-by!" you know you're going to have a great time! It's like the Big Bopper was having his own party already in progress and just invited us all along to join him. RIP
RIP
Gary's clearly out of practice here
As a historian on the life of Buddy Holly, I must warn you to take what Allsup is saying with a grain of salt. I think he has told this story so many times he actually believes it. I do not!
The Buddy Holly story starring Gary Busey is one of my favorite movies of all time. That along with La bamba. Hearing Gary sing Maybe baby and noticing how it sounded the same but aged a bit.. is bitter sweet to think of buddys music sung with an aged voice.. if buddy could have aged. I feel like the whole state of music would be completely different . Of course theres no way to tell. But time and place I suppose. I always say wish there were such a thing as time machines but it is almost a guaranteed NO and let me tell ya why .. if time machines were a reality. Buddy and Ritchie and J.p would be alive. Because socmany people love them that it wouldnt be a question. So im afraid as of right now ots just a theory and proof of concept thats almost impossible to try out...
That was the most lacklustre applause ove ever heard lol do they know who he is? He just had to put.on the glasses 🕶️ lol
I'm really surprised not one inch of footage exist of the 1972 Madison Square Garden reunion concert, no one filmed it?
everybody was the first video person.
Has a photograph of the signed guitar ever been taken?
My great uncle!
Hey i white man with a black voice from the deep south Donald trump country
Buddy lives on let’s go! Thank you Gary
Hahah! Funny guy. Hes definitely telling the truth. Shit. Sometimes guys who have no earthly business feeling insecure about their contributions, their legacy, feel the least secure about them. While the rest of us look on incredulous, they say things or do things which they have no business saying or doing, usually out of fear they have not done enough or that they are not enough. Though confusing to us, its this same compulsion born of fear which compels them as artists and keeps them racing against the clock so that by the time they can finally rest, look at all of the unbelievable shit that they have done in an achievement filled, extraordinary life. I do think its lijely that Dion was/is genuinely offended or hurt by the fact that indeed for many decades he was overlooked by those trying to tell the story of the Winter Dance Party Tour, and it's likely that whatever feelings he had stirred and bugged him such that when he finally did get the chance to tell his story, he made it just a tad more remarkable to be sure he wouldnt be left out ever again. All that...or, hes just a fuckin pathological liar. Lmao. Probably whats going on here, sadly. I wilk say that the only thing I've ever heard from DiMucci which sent my bullshit detector all the way to "steam whistle" alarm was his tale about sobriety, how he got sober by praying. Buulllshiiit. Either you weren't as addicted to heroin as you thought, or you are making the whole shit up, for god knows what reason. Perhaps because he was plotting a "gospel conversion" as a way to stay relevant in the music biz and felt he needed a good origon story to do so, idk. Dion, Dion... you're a legend, stop making things up. Tsk tsk tsk.

The worlds a better place because Gary's in it ❤🇬🇧
Its hard to think of Gary as just a shy insecure countryboy from Texas oklahoma, but he made a success of his life through his determination to bring his talents to the people, aways the underdog and never given the respect due to him. People need to look deeper at Gary to see he has such a beautiful heart and soul and is always searching for that recognition he deserves, but never seems to get, definitely misunderstood and misjudged, be assured Gary, we love you with all our hearts🥰 ❤🇬🇧
Gary always makes me laugh, such a genuine conection with people 🥰❤🇬🇧
This great man should of been given a lifetime achievement award purely on his dedication to the entertainment business through singing, acting and music, what a great Legend you are Gary ❤🇬🇧
Gary's such a charismatic and endearing man with a beautiful smile, such a lovely soul ❤🇬🇧
Gary's the genuine thing, and always keeping it real, bless him for his dedication to Buddy Holly ❤🇬🇧
love the episode of im with busey when adam gives him the buddy bobblehead.
Gary your a beautiful man and an absolute Legend, we'll love you forever ❤
OH BOY.......I'm glad that's over!! Garbage
❤
An honor
I idolize Gary...All he has endured
AT THE RESSURECTION
I think that both JP and Tommy being older (both about 27 and 28 at the time) assumed that they would have first dibs on the seats. If what Dion said is true, then Tommy and Waylon would have been perturbed about being treated as mere "back up players" to Buddy Holley. I don't know how old Waylon Jennings was then, but if he was younger than JP then he probably deferred to him (based on age) when JP "asked" if he could have one of the seats. Tommy dug his heals in until Buddy asked him to "check one more time to see if they had left anything behind." Buddy being only 22 was running the show and I'm sure that Tommy being older would have felt annoyed about being treated that way. I can see why he would have changed his mind about going with Buddy on the plane at that point.
You are forgetting about the other person in the picture and that is Dion. He was offered a set but turned it down because he thought the price of $36 was too high.
@@happyolddude I didn't forget about Dion. He probably tossed a coin with Richie before anyone else knew what Buddy was planning to do. (He and Buddy got to be pretty good friends when they toured together, even before the Winter Dance Party Tour). They all knew that Tommy and Waylon didn't have the same kind of money as the headliners. Just to make sure, they had tossed the coin earlier that day. It happened just the way Dion said it did. As a courtesy, Buddy offered Tommy and Waylon the seats... but they could not afford them. Because of their pride, they didn't want to admit it to the world. There was nothing shameful in that, but the male ego causes men to think so.
@@jeanieruter7416 Thank you very much for your common and sensible views. I was in contact with Dion for around 5 years after he bought one of his Australian Ep's off me on ebay.. Always seemed like a decent man albeit a little eccentric.
@@happyolddude Dion seems like a good guy. I was glad to hear (several years ago now) that he is a born-again Christian. He is 84 years old now and he is still making records and touring... and he sounds just as good as he ever did. Comes from clean living, I guess. Good for him! When I hear people put down Dion because of the coin flipping controversy, it ticks me off. That's why I investigated the whole controversy. I think I got it pretty much figured out now. lol 😂❤
@@jeanieruter7416 Dion and I shared our christianity views and yes he said he was a different man after conversion. Always enjoyed his music.
He's a Texan from Baytown near Houston. I love Gary Busey, he did a great Buddy Holly and he played great and sang great.
Ok
Awesome!
He was having a recording studio built, and many singers were interested in recording for him. As well, he wanted to do more song writing. He would have become a much bigger name in the music biz.
💪💫🌟🌟💫❤️
Now only Dion is with us. Rip Freddy & Carlo.
God bless you and your family
If you vote Republican you'll be voting for Trumpocracy, not Democracy. You'll be voting for white power, hate, attacking people like McCain the war hero, keeping our great country divided, no regards to the laws of our nation and supporting Trump's Supreme Court. Those who vote for the Republican Party want to pull off the coup that came up short on Jan. 6, 2021, but are still working on it because Trump wants a civil war today. Trump believes he's the white supremacy GOD that you should always believe. The big lie will continue because Trump will be fighting to the end. That's his nature. He hates losing. Another white supremist!
I personally did not like "the Buddy Holly Story" and I hope that a far better and more honest accounting of Buddy Holly's life is made at some point.
I knew him and his family, good ppl! God bless and RIP

Gary has always been one of my heroes!🔥✨

Let's go Brandon n oldies legend DION DIMUCCI
Did you show the wallet? Damn it I couldn’t see it
The best that's ever been my favorite of the three the Big Bopper?!
The buddy songs are amazing
Just a funny, talented and great human being.
I love how Gary keeps Buddy's music alive. Gary is a great actor and performer. God bless you Buddy and Gary.
Its too bad that the sound/volume is low
You can see the pain in Ritchie’s mom in that picture with her family. But at least she’s now with him and bob.
what an articulate well spoken man. I started as professional musician at age 15 and actually just played the Surf on Saturday October 23rd 2021. It is an amazing place and as a place for music history rivals the rock and roll hall of fame by leaps and bounds IMHO
