There’s actually another Pokemon fighting game that fans are making now called “Close Combat”. It’s similar to this, but it only has Fighting mons in it like Mienshao, Toxicroak, Primeape, and Bewear.
@@TheCharkikanI feel the same, type wild is far too 'on-model' for my tastes, I love the wild look of close combat, every pokemon looks so cool, Toxicroak is my favourite looking out of the lot but personal bias is deffinetly in play because Croagunk is my favourite mon.
Somehow I never knew this fangame ever existed despite looking up tons of walkthroughs and music rips of PKM games on YT at that time. The sprite work really looks official.
Yeah, back before more and more videos were posted about it, the game could easily be mistaken as something made by Pokémon themselves. Insane they could do that so long ago.
You can just tell this was a pokemon fangame that was made by people who love Pokemon. All the callbacks to moves, the manga references, and backgrounds from games you wouldn't even think would be included really shows that.
A sequel to this game with more pokémon and stages from all generations up to SV would honestly be so hype, especially with the amount of quality this game has
Two things to add onto this The game is still being updated as Pheromosa is getting added alongisde new gameplay mechanics like a modified helper system. The dev of this game (not so sure about this) also made a platformer about Max that's eh but it has some impeccable spritework.
The fanservice aside, I really like the amount of care put into this fighting game. This looks like a really solid title and I wish the Pokémon Company was cooler about accepting talent and supporting these really cool developers. I wish I had this kind of creativity. But please don't marry your Gardevoir guys
Oh yeah, I often think about what things would be like if they just hired people who make fan games like this and just give them resources to flesh it out for an official game.
Type Wild actually isn't dead, the developer behind the game has teased Pheromosa in a video titled 趣味ゲーム進捗報告22年6月. The description of this video also name drops Charizard as a possible future character.
I played one of the older builds before Lopunny was added back in the day. Lucario was absolutely broken when you cornered your opponent, able to chain multiple Force Palms back to back and then directly comboing into Close Combat.
I remember watching gameplay of this game many years back as a kid, and the main takeaways were that stretchy arm Breloom was cool and Swalot was hilarious. I wanna try this for myself if it’s still around, Breloom and Lopunny are some favorites of mine that would be pretty cool to play And yes, Lopunny for Pokken 2 would be peak
Type Wild is pretty fun. It's more of a traditional fighter than Pokken, but it's a bit more simple than most traditional fighting games. It is actually still being worked on, though. Someone who works on the game posted gameplay clips showing that Pheromosa and Mewtwo are being worked on as fighters. Mewtwo even uses the spoon from the Adventures manga, which is pretty cool. Hopefully they get those 2 finished up and released at some point.
I had totally forgotten about seeing videos of this game, what a throwback! Also I love how Swalot just has a Pinsir living in his mouth like some freaky parasitic/symbiotic hybrid relationship 😅
I remember playing this back in college. Didn’t have anyone to play it with, and it didn’t have Lopunny then (or Swalot, I think? It’s been a long time) but it was a fun little thing. It’s probably the reason I wish there was a 2D Pokémon fighting game today. Something like Pokémon KOF but with assists would be a good way to get a significant number of the 1000+ Pokémon either usable in some capacity or in stage backgrounds, I think.
That we never played? I played Type: Wild. Pokesho was my jam haha. They had fanart of every character no matter how obscure. Pokesho by the way was also the source of the "Jasmine sits on a Magnemite, where is its screw" picture
Man, seeing this brings me back! I think my first experience with this game was when Shofu uploaded it years back, after that I was constantly looking up people playing through the arcade/story mode. This game has so much personality.
I had a buddy play this in the local community college lounge, it was pretty neat. As a fan of Smash, I think it'd be cool if unlikely if there was a a Pokemon focused Smash clone.
I think Smash would be a good blueprint for a Pokémon fighting game, since while it has a competitive scene and capacity, it’s also a multiplayer party kinda game game.
0:34 - 0:40 I dunno whether I should call that Oshawott lucky or unlucky.... OwO But in all seriousness, I would kill for an official traditional 2D Pokemon fighting game.
How funny, I haven’t played this game in about 10 or 11 years, since I was like 8 or 9 years old. I bet I still have it downloaded on my moms old desktop.
@Lanline-py8ji I saw someone was working on a Loudred character, which is kind of cool because Loudred's underrated, and honestly one of my favorite middle evolutions. He's just got such a goofy charm to him that Whismur and Exploud don't have.
One rule.... add Heracross to the game, and it's gonna be lit. Had if Gardevoir would've been a cooler shade of pink, like hot pink, it's gonna be perfect. Lopunny needed pink fur for her cool design. Lucario would've been yellow for his shiny color, but not in Smash Bros Ultimate. Swalot must've been red or green, like blood, or acid. Breloom might be in a cooler shade of blue, like more periwinkle. Just like the goof in one episode of Pokemon Advanced Battle. (he also looks like a 1-Up Mushroom from the Mario Bros. series)
Ah, I recall downloading and playing this as a kid so long ago. A fun, simple free game, cant complain about that as a kid with no money. Of course I usually played as Gardevoir. Wonderful video!
If you think Type Wild is peak on its own, you have not seen its conversions, let alone many OTHER Pokemon characters made for the M.U.G.E.N. engine to this day.
Gosh I always really wanted to play this game as a kid. Still rlly hoping we get a 2D Pokémon fighting game half as good looking as this one someday, Pokken was fun but this is everything 💛
I'm actually one of a few people that got to play this game and it was really challenging as seen in one of my oldest videos. For those that don't know, Type Wild was a fangame made by a former Japanese animator that worked on the Pokemon series.
Those sprites look fairly good, but the animations are too smooth for my liking. They miss the snapiness that I came to enjoy from fighting games. I much prefer Pokemon Close Combat for that matter
Pokken worlds ended last year i think, we went out with a bang tho. I dont know if i should make a promise with people on the internet, but i will get hired at Nintendo and climb the ranks to get pokken 2.
Man... I've spent so many hours playing this game that I remember I even played it with a broken arm, on a freaking keyboard. Absolutely insane. My favorite Pokémon was by far Combusken, I dunno why, it just was my main lmao
Weirdly enough my brain has been imagining what if we had a pokemon game like this. Glad to see that kind of idea existed back in the day. At least this scratches my itch. Pokemon Close Combat
it has a spiritual sequel in pokémon close combat now

I think someone else mentioned Charizard hinted at getting in, but the vid they linked only led to Pheromosa. Where did you see Mewtwo?
