Basically the capybaras are nature's emergency patch update for how wild and unbalanced the whole Amazonian food chain was growing to be.
They are the true neutral to the Amazon’s chaotic energy, bringing balance to the force

I find it funny how they look like guinea pigs and in my language guinea pigs are called świnki morskie which translates to water pigs
That's kinda funny though because Guinea pigs don't like water
@@markopolo2172 Guinea pigs are built pretty well for swimming, like their capybara cousins. They share pretty similar coat structures, ears, noses, and webbed toes. Speaking of which
Fur type actually dictates what kind of mammals can tolerate water, which is why desert rodents, like hamsters and chinchillas, or lagomorphs (bunnies and hares) have fluffier coats that regulate body temperature by fluffing up/defluffing. On the other hand, mammals built for more humid and aquatic environments often have wiry/sleeker fur to move faster and regulate body heat via water.
Of course, that doesn't mean those animals have to *like* water. I don't think I've EVER had a guinea pig like getting bathed.
@@sunwukong2 Guinea pigs actually really hate water they can swim but that is more of a survival instinct than an enjoyable experience I have 3 of em they're awesome little buggers

I absolutely adore Capybara's! They're so cute. I used to have a dog (black Labrador/shepherd mix supposedly 🤷🏻♀️) BUT I now believe was half capybara 😂! She would swim underwater 10ft down and hold her breath FOREVER, I would have to jump in and force her to come up!! IT WAS INSANE! She would scare me to death BUT she was fine EVERYtime! I miss her dearly. Her name was Tesla! She lived from 😢 1989-2001... Today she'd have her very own successful TH-cam channel! She was definitely one of a kind! ♥️😁😢😅

The Capybara namr is taken from local amerindian language that means master of the grasses, the Spanish Latin name is chigüiro.
They are herd animals and fulfil the same role as hippos in Africa
The scent gland on the nose appears only on dominant males
Their brains are really small, but they are super sociable.
They make great pets, but only if you have the money to buy the things it needs , they need a friend, a swimming source, lots of food, maintenance, maybe an exotic pet licence, and vet bills.

I'm Brazilian and no, we don't call capybaras water pigs, on the contrary, the term comes from Tupi Guarani, a language spoken by indigenous peoples here in Brazil and South America in general. You speak as if you had named and still distort linguistic history.
Sorry to offend you, but they are referred to as the water pig or water hog. Mostly because they were first thought to be related to pigs upon “discovery” by explorers from the Iberian peninsula in the late 1400s. For example Pero de Gandavo described them as pigs in 1576. But you are right their name means grass eater. However their scientific name Hydro (water) choerus (pig sub-family) is where the translation comes from. I am sorry if I misrepresented that bit of information.
Aaaaaaah. The capybara. You forgot a very interesting fact though! There are 2 species of capybara!!! The lesser capybara and the capybara. They belong to the genus hydrchoerus which consists of exclusively the capybara family!
