First episode of a two part series. In the next episode we will examine the Brandenburg connection. There will be more Fredericks than you can handle...
Hungarians: You have freed Transylvania for us! Teutons: I wouldn’t say “freed”, more like ‘under new management’. Hungarians: Well yes, but actually no.
To be fair if not Teutonic Oder and its pressure on Lithuania( which cant alone handle constant Order eastern expansion) there would not be Polish-Lithuanian union and later Commonwealth.
A nice change of topic. I have very little knowledge of the subject beyond the basics about the battle of Tannenberg in 1410, or how the Northern Crusades were larger in scale and more destrucrive than the crusades against the Saracens.
Wow I like your content. Editing and narrating make your channel my favorite. Your work should be appreciated. You are deserve more subscriber I hope you must gain 1 Million subscriber by the end of this year. Please keep continue this type of amazing work. Your admirable hard work and deep research make you the best channel on TH-cam. But brother I am waiting for an promised video on Skanderbeg when it will come? I have a curiosity also can I ask your name? And Where are you from?
Bro I thought I was subscribed but somehow my subscription got cancelled or something. Is this a thing that can happen or is it my fault? Cool video btw
If you want to do a really hilarious video, Thirteen Years' War would be it. With the the huge disbalance of forces between Poland and Teuton Order, with little to no help from Lithuania, and Poles managed to screw up each and every time. Benny Hill theme would be apropriate.
Teutonic knights? Their name is "Deutscher Ritterorden", German knights order is the correct translation! They were military monks like the Hospitalers and the Templars, but different from them not subject to the pope, but to the emperor of what was the "Holy Roman empire of German nation". Their monastic order was nearly identical to the one of the Templars. Who are the Teutons? The Teutons were a Germanic tribe who before Cesar's time invaded northern Italy and were beaten. Since then there is no news about them! Heaven knows why English-speaking literature speaks of the Teutonic kights. The German knights order was founded during the 3rd crusade in Accra, and existed for centuries. But the Teutons appeared before Cesar, and then were never heard of again!
Love this topic. European Religious Military Orders, Malta comes to mind, are fascinating; how do they sustain them self economicaly? Did they taxed their population? Exploited a local natural resource? What were their military prowess on a tactical level? Now that we are in the Baltics; I beg of you to talk about the Hanse. Pirates in Europe, Hello...?
Of course they taxed the population. They essentially functioned as any other state in Europe. They're main tactical advantage as I understand it was that they built castles immediately after a region was conquered. This assured that those regions could not be recaptured. The conquest occurred bit by bit, not as a result of a decisive battle.
I wouldn't thinks so since there were a lot of practical and economic benefits to being protestant aside from theological, which may explain why smaller and poorer states were more likely to ditch the Papacy. Moreover the extreme Papal corruption, and Protestant theological beleifs was for the Tuetonic order, a nice excuse to change from an order to a proper duchey. So on the whole I think they've got more than enough internal and external reasons to ditch the Pope and embrace reform, that good relations with Poland likely changes nothing.

Fantastic, reminds me of all the palaces I visited in Berlin and Potsdam!
Just incredible content
One Frederick is bad enough 😅
Have you stopped making these videos?
That would be a pity because I really like your approach to historical videos.

Teutons: I wouldn’t say “freed”, more like ‘under new management’.

Thank you for a two-part series on a seldom covered topic, on a channel that covers a seldom covered era!
Poles: Hey, come set up shop and destroy our enemies for us.
Poles: Hey, not like that!

Hehe, I knew nobody would know this topic.
Great video! Always wondered how the Teutonic Knights got their start, and what their deal was.
This is one of those things where everyone knows the beginning and the end, but nobody knows what happened in-between.
Awesome bit of history! Thanks
3:45 😂
Awesome as always

So many Friedrichs are coming. Can't wait!
Was the Teutonic Knights' domain was the medieval equivalent of the Western frontier in America?
Sorta I guess
Well the Western frontier was more similar to the border between Islam and the Spanish in Iberia.
Great vid bud 👍🇬🇧
I love your channel
They became Prussia!!!
Stole their land, stole their name, stole their genes too! And the Prussians became the Greatest Germans.
@@pikeshotBattles lemme fix that. Conquered their land. Assimilated the natives to German culture and changed their name to fit with the natives.

How can you say that when Neuschwanstein Castle exists?
How can you say that when Hunyad Castle exists?
Neuschwanstein ist not a " Burg " , it is a palace " Schloss "

Yup. 1410:
1kg of sugar, 4 liters of water & 10 dag of yeast
@@MaciejBogdanStepien Wow so funny kid.
It has mistake on year 1337 they fall down
I laughed hard when the camp attendants, surely Baltic serfs/slaves, betrayed their masters. Good job!

Wow.. well done …
who knew crusaders loved coin so much ? 😂
I wonder if they had a good relationship with the crown of Poland would the order able to crush Protestantism in north Germany?
Well that's a strange question since they were the first state to convert to Protestantism (as you will find out from the next episode).

With Polish-Lithuanian resources they would be able to take western pomerania and bradeburg.
@@matthewdavid6134 In the Order's case it was purely cynical.
