EXACTLY!! I’m glad someone noticed that. Steven has been going through an identity crisis. Is he his mom? Pink Diamond? Rose Quartz? NOO! He’s himself and I’m happy they chose to go down this route instead of them showing his mom.

Neither Freak Ultima If they let Steven meet Pink, then the message would basically be ruined. Rose... is dead. Her mind isn’t there anymore. Rose has vacated the building. All that’s left are fragmented memories and some residual emotions, but no person. Just Steven. To have Pink show up would validate Steven’s worry that he, in his act of existing, is preventing another person whom everyone looked towards and cared about, from living. It would mess with him too much and he wouldn’t be able to live with himself, especially since he can’t live without the gem. Fastest route to a Steven suicide if you ask me.

What I love about this scene is that it completely subverts the viewers’ expectations. Usually in this scenario someone else would come in at the last minute, or Steven would have used his bubble to get out. As soon as the Gem was actually removed, everyone’s expressions immediately changed.

You know, after Future and everything. It makes sense.
At the time, we didn’t know about Pink Diamond’s powers; so we all just assumed it was raw power combined with anger towards everyone calling him Pink. And it was half true. He was mad, but that raw power was really his wail. So, we basically saw the wail before we even knew what it was.
I think we can all agree everyone's blood ran cold as they stared in horrified silence as steven's gem was removed.
The "SHES GONE" is so heartbreaking to hear. There is so much pain in the voice, it's like Pink Diamond herself is yelling at White Diamond that her toxic empire is what made her disappear forever. I know she make the conscious decision to give up herself to create Steven, but if you think about it that is a pretty dark realization. Pink was so tortured from her sisters and only felt any real love from Greg, humans, and her crystal gems that she made the decision to permanently end herself to become something entirely new.

Not me. Cuz I know what it felt like to be compared to my mom and no one thinking of me as my own person. Was so happy that it turned into Steven. Finally he knows now that he really is his own person. And for people to finally accept him as himself.

Laci_n_Rocket 04 think of it like this. Rose died in childbirth. There no way the child can meet his mom except for the tape she left him. It kinda like what happened to jack on supernatural. Mom made a tape cuz she knew she couldn’t survive. And jack had the same battle as Steven in a way. Everyone thinking he is going to be like his father cuz his father is Lucifer. Instead of treating him like his own person. Since season 1 everyone but Steven dad and beach city citizens treated him like he just another form of rose. Even the crystal gems. So Steven who is only 14 btw, thought he had to clean his mother mess. Filling in her shoes. Cuz even he doubted that he was himself til this finale. That why he was laughing at the end. It a huge relief that he is himself. A huge weight and pressure is gone.
