That Taylor #3 has so much power, projection, and tone, you'd not be able to overcome that as a singer. It's going to be the absolute star of the show when playing acoustically in a room. It's clearly worth every penny if that's what you want. But frankly, I love the tones of Taylor #2. A little less volume, but the clarity and tonal response to your playing is really sweet. If you're in a busker mood, this is the one. Plus, I'm a sucker for a sunburst.

Taylors.... the most overpriced pieces of ...... on the market unless you want to spend $8000, on a guitar OR it was made in the 90's when Taylor was actually known for something! So many other incredible brands like Takamine for example, where you can get an incredible axe made out of NATURAL wood NOT laminate AND a Top notch pickup for under $2000.... sometimes under $1000 in the right area with the right model.... Taylor is all about exploiting their buyers.... You would have to sign me to a million dollar deal and have the guitar designed to my exact specs ( would definitely be a Takamine or Martin design) before I'd buy Taylor.

Although I do agree with you that Taylor’s tend to gravitate towards certain strengths, while martins are more rounded, the guitar you played in the demo is an om-15, which is going to have the least amount of range due to being all mahogany. The mahogany top vs spruce top is not a great comparison. If you played an om-28 it would be hands down the best compared to all the one played in the video.

Larrivee, 40 series, must try one then see what u think of martins or Taylor's, in terms of what u get for your money it's a no brainer....... Value aside, there's is this perfectly balanced tone with larrivee, about as much bass as a Martin and not quite as bright as a Taylor, with this punchy midrange, to me they sit in between a gibson and a martin sonically, but they out play both, Taylor like playability. Find a shop and play some larivees.

I listened to this blind, and apparently #3 was the best for me. Then I realized, I missed the price tags and thought it was the mid or low end. Then I realized, crap, acoustic tones are crazy in differences with wood, how thick, bracing, sound hole placement, bridge construction (if reinforced, or less wood, seems like less wood makes more resonant) and all kinds of crap. Electrics are so much easier! Acoustics sound nuts between different woods.
I have one classical and one acoustic but many electrics. It's weird because acoustics can sound so different but electrics can be so similar. One Spectre studios did the shoot out with speaker choice being the biggest tone changer, made me really think about reducing my guitar numbers. So now I have half a dozen, tuned to various tunings like E standard, D standard, C# Standard, drop D and dadgad or a varation of it. They are all studio guitars, and stay in tune - AFTER I put various upgrades like graphtech nuts and saddles (helped a TON) and hipshot locking tuners. Nice to pick up a guitar and have it be within 5 cents of in tune instead of like 15-25. Keeping a constant 67F helps a lot too. Temp knocks things out quick. Guitars are a pain in the ass. I love them, but they just have mood swings lol.

I have 5 electrics: Strat Elite, Tele performer, Taylor SBC-1 Custom Walnut, and a Gibson Les Paul Classic with P90’s. Acoustics I have 3 a Taylor 814CE, A Taylor 200 series Koa CE, and my favorite Breedlove Legacy Auditorium with Myrtle wood bank and sides with a spruce top. If you have not played a Breedlove you need to. He was a luthier for Bob Taylor and after he left to start his own company Bob hired Andy. Breedlove struggled for a few years and 2 old hippies bought the company and now I feel they are on the right path. But all their USA made guitars are great and the off shore are also good for those that can afford the USA made guitars. So in my humble opinion you need more than 1 acoustic if you want different sounds too!

While I love hearing Tyler shred and bend like the son of Steve Vai, its really nice for some acoustic guitar spotlight, even if purely for sonic change. And of course I'm partial to Taylor guitars for the namesake and cause they are awesome (albeit not for everyone). Thanks Tyler for making great music! Hope your Taylor guitar brings you great joy

i have 3 acoustics if you count my resonator. taylor gs mini, fender 90's jumbo, and flint hill resonator. i have 4 electrics and 1 project electric guitar. mij fender strat/G&l asat classic tribute limited edition/ 2 traveller guitars the original strat traveller and the original les paul traveller. i like having 2 non resonator acoustics so i can keep on in standard tuning and 1 in whatever open tuning i am using. (i use the 'gibson' traveler as my open tuning slide guitar.)

I called number 3 as soon as you started playing it 🤣 it has "it" and the other two (or three, technically), while they are nice, do not. I also only have one acoustic, and it's a Dean that my parents bought me when I was 16 (I'm 40 now). Somehow two non-players found me a beautiful instrument and though I've wanted others, and have bought several more electric guitars, I've stuck by that acoustic and I plan to continue. Nice purchase, Tyler!

My ownership of acoustics to electrics is about the same, I think I'm 4 and 4 at the moment, my ears definitely more acclimated to tone differences in the unplugged acoustic tone, so if I had to thin the heard, it would be thinning out my solid body electrics... Taylor acoustics are about playability and easy maintenance over tone. Professional grade instruments from the 100 series and up. Really admire the company, I'm just not the biggest fan of their products because of my love for traditional glued-in neck joint and the tonal character of Martin's and Gibsons. I think for me it's more about listening to the great recordings of the 60s/70s/80s/90s and when you hear great acoustic tracks on live and studio recordings, most of those tones are coming from the icons like the Gibson J-200, J-45, Martin D18, Martin D28, Martin 000-28, etc... so there's association of "this is what a great acoustic guitar is suppose to sound like" and because you have this mountain of gold, platinum and diamond records that collectively define that "this is what a great acoustic should sound like" you can take the subjectivity of "great tone" out of it and make it objective... You may like the way that Taylor K24ce or even 912ce sounds, but it doesn't sound like a Martin or Taylor. It doesn't have the lineage or archives of critically acclaimed recordings to its credit and because the golden era of recorded music is behind us and because the great acoustic players of modern day do not play Taylor guitars (that's just a fact) this isn't going to change for Taylor.... That said, plenty of great reasons to own a Taylor. They are fantastic acoustic guitars to gig with and the bolt on neck easy to maintain for decades. When it comes to reproducing the natural tone amplified, their proprietary pickups are not the best on the market, but they are professional grade, they get the job done and the audience is just going to hear an acoustic guitar and not be going "that's NOT a Martin D28". So to the audience it doesn't matter.

Taylor you chose sounds good, but man, why not Guild or Gibsons? The Martin sounded quite more authentic. But this is all about our fingers, sound taste, and aim of playing(home, gigs, stream videos....). All in all, wood MATTERS. and it will become more and more a scarce resource, so kids, take care of your guitars!

If you are paying for a pickup/pre-amp system, make sure you try that out too. I have a Taylor 414ce. Plays great and sounds great unplugged. But man, that ES2 system is terrible to my ears. I tried adjusting the little transducers but it's still brittle sounding. I installed a K&K Double Helix soundhole pickup and it sounds glorious.

So two steel string guitars. But I have a 2.5" Carvin Classical, a 1963? Gibson Classical, and an Epiphone Chet Atkins Classical (MIK). Number 3 was the best one in this video. It's funny I have had a lot of acoustics over the years (including Martins). My absolute favorite and it may seem odd is the Taylor GS mini mahogany. That's funny. The Level 3 Taylor sounded the most like my Taylor. But mine was considerably cheaper. I got it to be my "beater guitar" for playing around campfires. Then discovered it is a beast. My 12 string is a 355ce. And the beast is a 114ce that clearly thinks it's an 814 or such.

My Martin puts many to shame tone-wise. SPD model. Different neck than most Martins. Taylor sounds do seem to be all over the map. Taylor necks are more like electrics. I played many many Taylors and when I would go back to them after a break I found something lacking. Beautifully made, but so are Martins. The low end matte finish Martins can surprise you (just add an LR Baggs bridge pickup).

Comparing an all mahogany, (even the top) 15 series Martin vs. Taylor's Rosewood, and mahogany w/spruce tops is apples vs oranges.
I'll admit, and I own both, that I'm a certified Martin fanboy... that said... Nothing will part me from my beautiful looking and sounding, 1933 Ambertone, D-18 I bought brand new in 2015.

Not a loser in the bunch, but the #2 got my vote. The mid tones are so warm and mellow on that git - perfect for home studio, campfire, songwriting - and across the most genres IMO. The 1 was super chimey in the high end and had too much spank for me. Would sound super annoying to everyone if I ever got excited playing it lol. The 3 had the most even projection across the range to my ears. All that said, strings would likely change those qualities across all of these - so I would have gone with the one that felt best on my lap and to my hands. Oh, and that Martin? 5th place.

I LOVE this store. I was recording at a studio in Allston, MA back right before the pandemic and I came upon Mr. Music whilst walking around the neighborhood. Tom was wicked fun to chat with. We got on the topic of Vintage Red Label Yamaha dreadnoughts and my guy busts out a binder with newspaper ads all the way back to the late 60's or early 70's when he was selling them for $65! I played a bunch of his acoustic inventory and he gave me a tshirt and some other swag. Great video Tyler! As to your point about people keeping big collections of electric guitars with only an acoustic or two to speak of. My collection is the opposite. It's 2 electric guitars and 12 acoustics at my house (including 2 Red Label Yammers). But the real peak of the collection is the Taylor 914 with the Cindy inlays.
