    Well, I finally got a set of these for the 600AT (“special” Montgomery Ward version) that I inherited from my grandfather, and is older than me. The original stock finally gave up the ghost after nearly 50 years. I did all I could to keep it, for sentimental reasons, but the stock now has too much play in it, for my liking. These guns are built to last, although I did tune it up.
    Anyway, we’ll see how they ride.

    Sweet set up man! Nice piece of kit for sure. Just picked up the 590 at a steal in California for 400 new. Which during this time is unheard of. I’ve been looking for the A1 for about a year and just settled with the 590 for now. Later I can always sale it and pick up an A1. Will be changing stock and forend to magpul as soon as it gets here. Thanks for the tip about the magpul nut tool given. I purchased a shockwave tool from amazon just in case it breaks.

    Let's get to the dark side without hesitation. With this stock, which everyone seems to like so much, you cannot get the trigger assembly out, or get it back into the gun during takedown, without loosening up the stock quite a bit. This requires more time and an additional hex wrench. Whereas with normal takedown you do not need any additional tools. I like my Magpul stock, but this is really a stupid design flaw!

    • @UnprofessionalOutdoors
      @UnprofessionalOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

    Greet video, thanks! Just got the Mossberg this week and tried to swap the forend out, but the castle nut isn’t budging with the Magpul tool. Would putting a few rounds cycle some heat through and help? Or is it just because of the Magpul tool? Other videos make it seems like it should take almost no effort to unthread it. Any advice?

    • @UnprofessionalOutdoors
      @UnprofessionalOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tim Kong its a combo of the castle but being on there pretty tight and not being able to get enough leverage with the Magpul tool (and the teeth eventually broke on me). A castle but wrench will give you a lot more leverage. You could try spraying WD-40 or some kind of penetration oil on the castle nut and let it soak for a bit before trying. Good luck and hope it works out.

    • @UnprofessionalOutdoors
      @UnprofessionalOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ronald Patton this is an interesting topic. I’ve taken 2 tactical shotgun courses that had different approaches.
      The first had shells in from the bottom. All the trainers were civilians with NRA certification. It was easier to take the shells out, but there were a few people that fumbled shells. Also some shells would work their way out of carriers with aggressive handling.
      The second course was with active law enforcement some of which were ex-military. They had shells in from the top. Harder to manipulate, but no fumbling and shells did not work out of carriers.
      Both have pros and cons.

      @@Marz916 overall it’s solid. Keeps the rounds in place well and they are easy to remove. Only complaint is that the attachment screws strip way too easy. Mesa Tactical is great and they send replacements, but I’ve had to get replacements twice so far.

    • @UnprofessionalOutdoors
      @UnprofessionalOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are ghost ring sights that came mounted on it when I bought it. Mossberg does sell them but they do require does drilling so you might need a gunsmith for them.

    Does the magpul make the weapon feel any lighter? Is it some type of polymer? I have a 590A1.
    Side note, wish i coild have aheat shield on mine but from what i can tell the thicker barrel makes it impossible to get a heat shield on it.

    • @UnprofessionalOutdoors
      @UnprofessionalOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Super it is a polymer and it’s light but sturdy. It does make the front of the gun feel heavier with the light stock and heavy barrel, but nothing unmanageable or unbalanced.
      Yeah a heat shield would look awesome, but can’t get one to fit with the heavy barrel.

    Thanks a lot for sharing. Will this Magpul forearm fit other 12ga shotguns? I am new to pump action guns and just recently purchased one made by one of the Turkish manufacturers.

    • @UnprofessionalOutdoors
      @UnprofessionalOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you liked the video. Not sure if it will fit other shotguns since Magpul does also make one for the Remington 870. The Magpul forend has to fit to the barrel, magazine tube, castle nut, and slide action assembly.

  • @facebookmakesmesick
    @facebookmakesmesick 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Can you out the aim tech tri rail on that? Or the quad rail or it won't work with magput forend?

    • @UnprofessionalOutdoors
      @UnprofessionalOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Magpul forend is pretty high on the barrel and there isn’t a ton of space between the forend and barrel. Might be a little tight trying to add a tri or quad rail.
