Chronic Sore Toe - Fix it by Self-Manipulation

  • garymoller.com Gary Moller demonstrates how to manipulate the big toe in a case of hallux rigidus of "stiff big toe" which she suffered after stubbing a large rock several months earlier.
She does not really have "Hallux Rigidus": her injury is better described as a very sore big toe that has failed to resolve. I have used the term, "hallux rigidus" because the majority of cases are not true cases. It may be that the patient has been given this name because it sounds grand and is the precursor for invasive, high value or easy solutions such as surgery, orthotics, powerful medications and steroid injections.
The procedure, when done as demonstrated, is actually quite painless and it is very safe. Keep your feet warm, have tepid foot baths with Epsom Salts stirred in and make sure you get some exercise most day. Exercise in water is perfect!
Most cases of toe pain can be resolved by a simple procedure of mobilisation that you can even do yourself, plus changes to your diet and reviewing other factors, the most frequent being the toxic effects of many common medications such as those prescribed for high blood pressure.
If your toes fails to improve significantly after about 4-6 sessions done once or twice a week, then you need to consider that there may be other factors at play of which there are many. If you find this is the case, please contact me directly: www.garymoller.com/consultation and we will take it from there.

My partner has been complaining of pain in his toe. He can't move it and it hurts when he walks or run. I can't really tell what's wrong with him because he didn't see a doctor. He found this video and he made we watch. We tried it and I can honestly tell you that he felt a lot better and even he, himself cannot believe. Thank you gazzamoller for sharing this video.

I have hallux rigidus - x ray shows narrow joint space and dorsal, lateral spurring. I am a physician myself, but had been told that I would need surgery. The massage and traction has been really helpful. I have been doing this for a month and have a better range of motion and much less pain. I also started wearing MBT shoes, which have a rocker bottom that greatly reduces stress on the toe joint. Thank you Gary.

@gazzamoller very good for post op hallux rigidus surgery. I had this surgery two weeks ago- and I am now walking in a regular shoe, although that is due to alot of help with pancreatic enyzmes which help injuried or manipulated tissue heal rapidly along with increasing circulation- and pushing out waste matter in the blood stream. You video is very helpful, I am a massage therapist and I do this twice a day, plus icing it down at night slightly elevated for about an hour. So great video

I am using a poly rope and duct tape to pull my big toe in a traction. this seems to be effective in relieving the stiffness. Has anyone tried this? I have had trouble walking, and was desperate for a solution. I have been laying down and pulling on the rope to stretch it. I am an athlete and have stubbed my toe numerous times which has caused the hallux rigidus.

I have had an operation a month ago to get rid of my bunion which causes me pain. Also I have hallux valgus. Problem is that after surgery my big toe cannot bend backwards anymore (flex). But I don't have hallux rigidus because on the x-rays you can see the space between the joints. Could this treatment help me also? The joint feels stuck. I have only pain when it bends too far back when (normal) walking. So sorry to have had an operation but now I have to deal with this. Can you help?

Maybe not a complete solution, and maybe not for true hallux rigidus, but I've had excruciating MTP pain for 4-5 days, and I just tried manipulating my toe similar to what Gary showed in the video, and the impact was immediate. Pain is still there, but ROM is vastly improved. Will try a few more times and report back on progress. So far, thank you.

Tried this for about 5 minutes last night and it already felt better. I injured my toe last fall and have had limited movement and pain when it gets hit. I'm going to do this everyday for awhile and see if it helps, which I think it will. Now, I may not have had a bad case, but I'd much rather try these treatments than just sign up for prescription drugs and surgery. Thank you for posting Mr. Moller!!

Hallux Limitus/hallux rigidus: Is there is nothing in between complete loss of joint and a perfectly healthy one? Of course there is! All cases are somewhere along that sliding continuum. Yes, the woman in the video does not have rigidus: This is a toe AFTER several weeks work. I agree she never had true rigidus.
What is there to lose in trying this procedure? Tell me the possible harm? Have you tried this procedure on your patients?
I was first introduced to this 20 years ago. It works.

Very interesting. I dropped something very heavy on my big toe 13 years ago and about 2 years ago, the occasional pain when exercising a lot etc, became a permanent limp.
A cortisone shot in my Bursa stopped the pain completely (for the moment). So I can try this trick now cause I have no pain.

Viewers should go to my website and read the dozens of articles relating to this video. Google Search "gary moller foot pronation" and you will get most of these. You will also gather that this procedure works for many who were given no other option than surgery. Most cases of "Sore Big Toe" are not the extreme that zyzy describes. These will respond well to this procedure especially when backed up with nutrition interventions.

Sorry but this lady did not appear to have what I call hallux rigidus before he started the manipulation. I have had hallux rigidus since my late 20's in both big toes and I am now 68 years old. Someone with this condition would scream if they had their toes manoeuvred in this manner and the suggestion that you walk in bare feet is mad. The only way I can walk for any amount of time without pain is in rocker shoes/trainers. I mostly wear shape ups by Skechers. If I wear an ordinary pair of shoes for a short time, the pain experienced for the next few days is just not worth it. I do not want to be disrespectful but this video is not correct. I have been to a number of doctors and podiatrists and not one of them has attempted anything like this.

I have this Hallux rigidus, and just touching my toe is excruciating, I have had this done for several weeks and in no way did this work out the way this video describes. I had taken the alternative Cortizone shots and even that does not get rid of the stiffness, just the pain...and getting that shot absolutely sucked too. After seeing a couple of doctors, I figure the only way to get this resolved is to just lob it off...I'll let you know how that goes...

Honestly surgery aint that bad. I had all 3 middle toe tendents cut from my surfboard fins. I didnt feel it for like 15 mins. I noticed my foot cut after the fall im paddling and can feel my skin flapping threw the water. I then look back and see a cut and blood it didnt look bad i just saw a lot of blood. I was like 3 feet away from a popular fishing peir also to add to the fun. I finally got to shore but my foots now covered in sand so i got a life guard tower. Im like "Hey, I cut my foot you got anything to help it" (hoping for guaze and remember my foot didnt hurt yet i just thought i cut it). Hes like yeah walks out with a band-aid looks at my foot and said like "Yeah thats a lot of blood not what i had in mind". He goes back up and I go to the little showers and he comes over with a whole med kit thing. We start washing most the sand out of my foot and people start surronding me like "Holy shit he got bit by a shark" cause you can now see my cut and bloods driping every where around me. Now the pain starts settling in the life guards asking me questions and holy fuck it felt like my foots getting stabbed by a knife every movement I made. These cops come up due to all these people and the life guard told them to drive me over to the nearby ER. They do so and fucking carried me in. Finally I get some shots it numbs out. I look over to see see him with tweezers PICKING in side my cut LIFTING UP MY MUSCLE getting sand out I threw up. He then stiched up my foot gave me crutches and said in 30 mins good luck. Never got pain meds other then the shots cause im a recovering addict. So the next 2 weeks was hell had a wheel chair everyswhere couldnt drive and yeah. But in other words the surgery wasnt bad. But if the surgery evolves tendents stiching good luck i have terrible foot paint on the webs between my 2 big middle toes had no feeling i can only bend them a little bit. When u touch they cut i feel a sharp stab so its hard to clean the foot, and when sombody steps on it well it feels exactly the same as when u first got it not a sharp stab but a fucking knife threw ur foot. So you wanna go to a concert be prepared for many knives and a lot of pain.

    • @charlieuaintgetnolastname9027
      @charlieuaintgetnolastname9027 9 ปีที่แล้ว

Even though my foots still fucked. Tendent surgery is needed because they dont grow back u need them stiched together. But if you have a foot pain and want to get surgery even though its not bad dont do it if it evolves tendants unless their cut or somthing major. In the end its been only 3 years and ive had more foot pains then u can imagine trust me i have this in my big toe right now not on the side that had surgery and fuck that never would this petty sting account for a whole surgery. Take my word for it

@@ehteshamraja5974 , thank you for letting me know.
If you have failed to respond after a few sessions in a positive way there will be other factors at play. There are too many possibilities to list.
Some of the more common are:
Medication side effects that may cause toxicity, or the mobilisation and then deposition of calcium in the joints.
Glandular issues, most commonly thyroid dysfunction.
Circulation decline associated with conditions like diabetes.
Lack of some key nutrients such as the fat-soluble vitamins, manganese, chromium.
Ehtesham, you may have none of these, but most people do have underlying sub-clinical health issues that are quietly percolating away.
Think of your toes as being your early warning system. If you have problems with feet and toes that relate to poor healing then you need to be concerned that there is something starting to go wrong deep in your body.

In no way will manipulation "fix" hallux rigidus, which the girl in the video obviously does not have. And in no way will the movement "grind out the arthritic condition." Bologna. Pulling the toe out of joint will provide momentary relief, because the bones aren't touching each other, but that's it. It will not fix the underlying problem of a loss of cartilage, and growth of bone spurs prohibiting upward movement of the toe. (What, pulling the toe will magically cause cartilage to regrow?)
