I love when you choose wild animals as the focus for your paintings. I can't wait to try this zebra. You're painting style is very clean and simplified but each piece is wonderful. I so enjoy watching you work and I also love the idea of doing a rainbow version of a zebra.
Mountain zebras whinny like a horse, Grevy’s zebras bray like a donkey and plain zebras bark like dogs. Happy zebras push air between their lips when they’re eating. I think this is a happy zebra
I love the way u teach.its like am in classroom. And till now I have tried 2 of ur paintings (lion/zebra) .and am so happy with the result. Thanks very much Sarah 🥰
Sarah your tutorials have helped make quarantine days go by much faster and I’m having so much fun. Thank you and Keenan for giving of your time and knowledge so generously
Tried following this tutorial this evening Sarah, you make it so simple, thank you. Really love the finished piece. It's a lot of fun to introduce subtle touches of vibrant colour to a monotone subject... Great work, thank you.
I got soooo far behind because I am re-flooring my house. But this weekend was City Sunrise and Otter. Totally FUN! Just traced this zebra. Now here we gooo......
another great reason for Keenan--he's one of 9. I'm one of 8 but we were not as prolific in the grandkid dept as his family--only 7 grands with (now) 2 greats. Love listening you guys talk about everything--crunchy cereal wins!
The edge of the nose is called the ala and alar rim, at least on people that is what it is called and I think you are referring to. 😊 Also this was so cool to watch it come together!
I am not American, so it’s not an expression I would usually use, but this was awesome!! Thanks for such a wonderful experience and keep up the good work Sarah and Keenan.. 🌼😊👍🏽
Because the paints Sarah uses are not light-fast-but allow for such bright vibrant colors- she scans and keeps digital versions of her paintings. The rest often end up stacked under her desk as she is painting and creating new work several times a week.
thank for all your tutorials, Ive been following for a few months now and absolutely love this one! ...I have a request....can you do a tutorial for a green tree frog? Love from the UK xxx
I loved this one. I purposely have not attempted a Zebra because you can so easily get lost drawing the stripes. Now I think I might try it. I do have a question about Let's Make Art shipping charges, I am chomping at the bit to try your paints but the shipping is a lot to Canada. Does Let's Make Art every do a promotional thing ever to help with that?
Hi Paula! You've got this when it comes to the zebra. Stripes can get confusing but practicing will help you get there. International shipping is crazy isn't it. At this time we have not done a promotion for discounted international shipping but I can bring that up and see if it is something we could do in the future.
@@LetsMakeArt Thank you for getting back to me and I appreciate any help. Keep smiling and laughing as I enjoy watching you for that just as much as the painting!
If you purchased the kit, the outline steps and reference photo should have come in the box. If you are working from the video, the finished painting is either at the beginning or end of the recording.
Hi Kay! Our older tutorials feature Canson watercolor paper. However a couple years ago Sarah switched to using our Let's Make Art brand watercolor paper. Depending on the project Sarah either uses 9x12 or 6x9 paper. You can check it out here: www.letsmakeart.com/search?view=shop&q=lma+paper&Social&
Hello, I cannot find the Orchid or Space Blue colours. What are close replacements in W&N Cotman or Sennelier tubes? This is a bit urgent... Many thanks!
White watercolor can be used on black paper, or if you want to mix with other colors to create a more in depth shade. Dandelion Paint co paints that we use do not come with white. When you do see white in one of our kits or projects it is more often Gouache or Bleed Proof White. These can be used as an opaque paint in combination with your watercolors.
I just did my outline and I’m getting these long lines coming from my graphite paper. I started over and it happened again. Do you keep your graphite paper folded or flat? Im not sure what I’m doing wrong.
We generally store ours folded. One trick to help wit hthose lines is to crumble your paper. Yes, I know that sounds crazy. Crumble your paper up helps lift it off of the paper a bit. Also use it more. The more you use your paper the better it will get. If you are getting lines you do not want or your lines are too dark you can sometimes lift a little bit of it with a kneaded rubber eraser.
Let's Make Art I’ll try crumpling it up and try to keep using the same sheet instead of grabbing one of the newer ones. Thanks so much for the response.
I saw a version of the dress in a real store and I took a video in which I can SEE IT CHANGE so I know it’s a thing. And the real life dress was blue and black even though I swear I saw gold and white in the photo online.
Motivation comes and goes. The good news is this tutorial will remain here for when you have the time. Sometimes life tries to bring us down. Take some time for yourself-be it by creating or relaxing-you deserve it.
Oh, that dress. I saw white and gold. I couldn't make myself see it the other way. Love this zebra!

I was able to switch back and forth seeing the white/gold and blue/black, it was the craziest thing!

I love your videos a ton! I don’t have this month’s box but I still love the tutorials.
As long as you have paint and paper feel free to print off the outline from our website and paint along with us!

I love ZEBRAS!!! Thank you 😃
a group of Zebra are called a "Dazzle" and they really are! They make a barking/brae sound and it is crazy fun to hear!
That is so cool! Thanks for sharing that tidbit with us.
you guys make painting so easy for me, I'm inspired 🙂😀😄
That's awesome!
I love the sound zebras make. It doesn't sound much like a horse or a donkey. To me, it sounds like bubbles :)
I had fun trying this one!

Oh yes! I have been waiting for this! Soooo excited! 😍😍😍
Hope you like it!
Thank you for this tutorial. I have enjoyed this a lot. My zebra paint is now drying and hoping to frame it.
Glad it was helpful!
Hey, great tutorial. I was wondering what do you do to preserve your paintings and how do you store them?
Because the paints Sarah uses are not light-fast-but allow for such bright vibrant colors- she scans and keeps digital versions of her paintings. The rest often end up stacked under her desk as she is painting and creating new work several times a week.
I loved doing the zebra because of the intricate lines . Would you consider doing one of the big cats next month, tiger or leopard ? Thanks so much
Keep an eye out for October....just sayin ;)
There was a Very nice Lion project In April, 2019
I heard that zebras are in the donkey family. Loving learning to paint from you Sarah.
I saw white and gold! #thedress 😄
The technical term for the nose ring is alar cartilage. They don’t sound like horse or a donkey. It is more of a bark/laugh all their own.
I love getting the answers to these questions - thanks!
thank for all your tutorials, Ive been following for a few months now and absolutely love this one! ...I have a request....can you do a tutorial for a green tree frog? Love from the UK xxx
Hi Catherine! I can totally add that to our request list!
Thank you xx
i actually went on a safari at six flags and saw zebras. if you live close by to one i recommend it!
Forty five?!?!?!?!!! Sarah's reaction is LOL funny!

Sarah, is the Dandelion Paint Co your company?
Sarah did help develop Dandelion Paint co.
I did this outline days ago just so I’d be ready 😂
You’ve provided the outline but is there a reference photo available?
If you purchased the kit, the outline steps and reference photo should have come in the box. If you are working from the video, the finished painting is either at the beginning or end of the recording.
I wish you would please tell us what brand and size paper you are using, thank you

I think the nostril is the outside and the nares is the inside of the air orifice of the nose or beak?
Hank Simon the nostril is the hole and the nares are the flesh that surrounds it 🤷♀️
@@treehuggingbuddhist I had a 50-50 chance. ;-). Good thing I don't play the lottery.
Hello, I cannot find the Orchid or Space Blue colours. What are close replacements in W&N Cotman or Sennelier tubes? This is a bit urgent... Many thanks!
I'm sorry Muriel, I do not have those on hand to color match. Your best bet would be to compare your swatches to the Dandelion colors.
@@LetsMakeArt That's ok, I'll take a gamble with W&N Cotman's Purple Lake and will mix some blues together. Thank you for replying, though!
Thank you! I named mine Zelda
Perfect!
Hi, i have a question and I'm really qurious to know the answer, why do we get white watercolor in a set?
White watercolor can be used on black paper, or if you want to mix with other colors to create a more in depth shade. Dandelion Paint co paints that we use do not come with white. When you do see white in one of our kits or projects it is more often Gouache or Bleed Proof White. These can be used as an opaque paint in combination with your watercolors.
Watercolors are transparent, which means white watercolor would also be transparent and it's won't pop much on black paper
I just did my outline and I’m getting these long lines coming from my graphite paper. I started over and it happened again. Do you keep your graphite paper folded or flat? Im not sure what I’m doing wrong.
Do you store it flat or folded? I’ve been storing it folded.

First to like, comment and veiw
Its the muzzle
I remember the dress mystery! I saw blue and black! I couldn't understand how people saw gold and white! I think in reality it was blue and black.
It was such an interesting eye trick, you are right though- the actual dress was Royal Blue and Black.
FYI a Zebras spots are like our fingerprints.........their strips are unique to them and never the same.
Where is the outline?
You can find it here: www.letsmakeart.com/products/zebra-outline
Actually, for the viral dress, I saw both the combinations. My eyes could switch back and forth between them. Not sure how though lol
That is awesome!
I always called the "nostril skin" nasal wings for humans. Not sure what the correct term would be.
I saw a version of the dress in a real store and I took a video in which I can SEE IT CHANGE so I know it’s a thing. And the real life dress was blue and black even though I swear I saw gold and white in the photo online.
Nares or nostrils are both correct.
I asked for this but I have no motivation to do it
Motivation comes and goes. The good news is this tutorial will remain here for when you have the time. Sometimes life tries to bring us down. Take some time for yourself-be it by creating or relaxing-you deserve it.
I think the bell is probably called Sarah.
Hi so cut
good day, good sharing. waiting for the next videos. hope our channel can grow together.
I liked doing the painting but I can’t understand the eyelashes! Coming from inside the eye? It just doesn’t make sense to me 😧
Hey Barb, have a look at sketching (not painting) a human eye. Then it will make sense.
fun fact:zebras actually have really dark brown stripes instead of pure black
Love your videos but am not comfortable giving credit card information for a free download. Please correct this if possible.
We are in the process of switching this process and should be back to not asking for credit card info soon!
I just downloaded pdf outlines from the website, it didn't ask me for credit card info.
