Daft question, i have an old but really effective double rad in my living room, the radiator is sound except for rust around the bleed valves. Will changing the valves help? Or do you think the rad is toast? Next question, what do you think of those auto bleed Aladdin values? If i put them in, do I need them on all rads in the house, maybe one set upstairs, one downstairs, or is it fine to just have one? Thank you loads
New rad if there's rust, it'll only get worse. The auto vents don't last long in my experience, they just stop working. If you're gonna fit any make sure its in place of the blank nut, so you'll still have the main bleed valve on the other side.
Silly question, once you cracked open the bleed nipple and no more water comes out, doesn’t this suggest its ok to unscrew it and replace without draining? Im just trying avoid draining if i can as when i replaced the rad last time i know i full well forced a large rad between existing pipework designed for imperial rad, i even had to cut the tails to fit so its a tight squeeze
There'll still be water that comes out because the small bleed screw hole is in the centre of the big nut. You can just use a towel down to catch any water if you don't want to drain it, and do it quick.
Can you replace the nut on the opposite side at the top and what is it called?...mine are rusty and i sometimes get the odd brown dribble...thanks in advance.
@@pr9062 Yeah, if the pressure drops to below 1 bar then top it up, but you don't typically need to unless you empty too much water out of the radiator.
@@lucipherj possibly but a lot of the time it'll fix the leak by replacing the blank or bleed valve. It's usually leaking because the rubber o ring seal has perished, but new ones come with new rubbers.
Buy me a coffee ☕ 👍 www.buymeacoffee.com/housewarm
Thank you for this mate, you helped me out when my bleed valve wouldn't close and I had to replace it and didn't have a clue how. Lifesaver!
Good job bro 💪 You're welcome!
Is there any point to using ptf tape on the thread of the new valve? Great vid by the way
No, it should have a rubber o ring seal on. Thanks!

@@HouseWarm Makes sense I think I'll try a quick swap and accept there will be a bit of a mess haha, Thanks a million for the quick response!
What do I do if the screw is broken? Do I just skip the step with releasing the pressure?
Yeah, but the water will most likely squirt out fast so be prepared. Crack it slowly.
What do I do if all the water explodes out while I’m bleeding it
Do you mean after fitting a new bleed valve?
Are the bleed values all the same size for this type of radiator🤔
Yes!

Yeah, it's called a radiator blanking plug. The bleed valve and blanking plug usually come in a pair like this one on Amazon amzn.to/3w8MSRL
@@HouseWarm Thank's...is it then just a case of topping the pressure up on the boiler (combi)

Mine have rusted around the blanking plate and a couple of the bleed valves. Do you think it would need a new radiator because of the leaks?
