I actually said, “you just can’t be really as effective in a debate when you’re debating a woman,” and I regret how that sounded. I meant it as a compliment. You know, I made great strides in the Title IX, and so forth and so on, and while I’m proud of that, I’m not proud of that comment. Incidentally, I should say that the women in Iran at this moment have a duty to oppose their government and the United States should back them all the way

This series of interviews is priceless. (those of you who didn't live during his Presidency could not comprehend the level of hatred towards this man by the Left. Trump-hate, although strong, pales in comparison)
1962 here also. I remember as a child we used to go to the beach. People brought radios and listened to the Watergate hearings. I love the unthinkingly Olympian way he feels able to answer questions from the male interviewer about the effectiveness of women as politicians and their supposedly fundamental/essential natures in various respects. I suspect Nixon was never asked in any interview "do you think men can be just as effective as politicians as women"? It all starts from the unquestioned background premise, simply taken as granted, that men are the norm and the standard against which women's fundamentally different natures should be compared and judged (by men). But if you can't even see the background premise in the first place..........
Its funny that he said that he could never go door to door asking people to vote for him. When I ran for city council in my city, that's what I did and many others. People love to meet their candidates and ask questions. It's not for everyone and Nixon is clearly more of a retail politician and a very effective one at that.

But there was a world of difference between Democrats of 1960 than the past 40 years, especially today. Today Democrats are leftist lunatics. Back in 60, JFK and Nixon were not politically far apart.

I say the two best presidents of the 20th century were JFK and R. N. Nixon. They were good friends, unfortunately the masses may have not seen or known it, I believe because even back in 1950's-1960's because we had "two" parties, and politics, being what politics is, how stupid they may be, having friendly relationships between these fine leaders or much cooperation with one another would surely get other R's & D's beginning to use two excellent leaders in negative ways during any campaigns that they may end up in, or any that JFK or Nixon supported...but they spoke and talked to one another very much, and I wish the proper person would tell the story of these two friends who respected one another and sadly had both their presidencies cut short. How I wish both men had 8 full years in that high office. America would be what the early Founding Fathers would be very happy with.
Friedrich Hayek made that argument in his famous book "The Road to Serfdom" in the 1940s. It inspired many on the right, and Nixon will have been well aware of it, given how famous the book and Hayek were.
