I usually end up writing on a site when Pres. Nixon is on, as here. As before, so I repeat, the man is an interesting man, there is something innately fine, very good about him and maybe as I am, I find re Richard Nixon what most men have got in different percentages, i. e., I disagree that he is ever a ruthless guy, nor is he a crook...not when I have watched him since the 1950's, read his books with great deal of interest, he (and JFK) are two favorites of mine in 20th century; the smartest, most decent ones who I always think gave a lot re the underprivileged. Getting very old may/does have its downfalls for we who made it to "old," but we see more, learn more very often also. Balance everything re Nixon. His family and the support, love that from all I know are gracious, wonderful individuals, as Billy Graham, entertainer Jack Paar, a good number of other figures that whatever Nixon's politics or personality, I still see him as one of us, average man with flaws, with great talents, a good mind and when a thorough look at his way of life growing up in rather humble beginnings, then seeing how & where he went, despite any odds against him, he goes on to a filled life, faithful to and loving his family and being loyal, never forgetting his true friends. Often over more than 60 years the press has simply treated this American terrible over his manner or if they disagree, he has been treated like dirt. I never, except for some extra, individual investigative reporting saw/read/heard the horrible, black, evil of LBJ, Biden, others that could be named. Last of all, when past 80 years of age, he still sits on live TV with Ted Koppel in early 1990's and he speaks with that clear, fine voice, using perfect English, never hemming or hawing, no ums and no awing, stammering or without clear concise answers, he, sharp as can be. The more I see & hear President Nixon as I near the end of my life, I see a man that I wish we had now, or wish we'd even come up with another that is close to his thinking. His one very big flaw for me was what JFK I believe had lost before he was murdered, that was that we are to be the one & only unipolar, hegemonic power in the world...also that second flaw of not accepting the fact, after WW2 (even before that) that the evil warmongering Harry Truman, Churchill, others of their kind ushered the Cold War in against Russia/Soviets after they took down Germany with losing 27 million dead. Nixon blames the Russians for it. I loved it when our great JFK saw the truth and laid it out publicly and his own killed him for it.
Just read a new book by Luke Nichter who is one of the preeminent Nixon historians. It focused on the 68 campaign and featured new details on the Chenault Affair, and uncovered how LBJ secretly wanted Nixon to beat Humphrey. You should check it out

54:20, The Humphrey vs Nixon race was a great campaign in 1968.

Great stuff, but just remember, Nixon dictated how the interview went.
Don’t they all?
That's how these interviews are conducted. It keeps the interviewer focused and keeps conversations from wandering off course.
This was meant for his memoir
53:45, Very close election in 1968, and the bombing halt! Nixon thought that almost cost him the election.
55:01, Oh that bombing halt!
I thinkhe is lying a little bit. About his daughter.
