If I had the wherewithal, I'd like to become a patron of the arts but it never occurred to me to ask any civil government to use other people's money to do that. Any government powerful enough to use other people's money to do what you would like done would be powerful enough to use your money to do things you wouldn't want to be done.

This reminds me of a somewhat similar experience I had many years ago in Harvard Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts. A quartet of young musicians positioned itself right by the train station and played Air in G by Bach. A small crowd gathered and listened quietly. Among the listeners was a uniformed Cambridge Policeman. When the piece was finally done and the crowd applauded, the officer told the musicians to disperse, but it was obvious that he had enjoyed the music as much as the crowd did.

The genius of Saint Saens exquisitely played impromptu. Brings tears to my eyes.

Oh that is sooo beautiful! Calming. Delicious! Kudos to the musicians! And of course the French language is delicious in itself to listen to.
