I've spend hundreds of german Marks on Galaga (Arcade) and never was happy with the conversions on the 64. Glad it only took 40 years for a proper conversion. Now I can die and rest in peace. Edit Bonus this video has been released on my birthday. What a coincidence.
Did you ever see Zalaga for the C64? I missed that, until recently. That came out about 1983/4. that was very good. Also there is a Mastertronic conversion of one of the sequels of Galaga that came out in 1988 on the C64 which is very good too. :
I really wish you include a list of the games with timestamps and links where to get them. It would require more effort but it would make these videoss a lot more useful.
recent c64 games look so good. the colour palette looks deliciously retro like the atari 800, yet the smoothness of handling of multiple sprites is as good as the megadrive, better than the amiga.
where were these games when i was 10 years old... they look amazing. EOB looks really good! it's only the lack of colours, other than that it's great... amiga game on the 64, that's voodoo magic right there.
Agreed... There were some incredible looking/playing games for the C64 released while it was still being made, but those (Mayhem in Monsterland, Turrican II, etc) were released in the early 90's, and I had an Amiga by then... If those type games had been released in the late 80's (got my A500 in 87), might I have held onto my 64 a bit longer??? ;-)
Yes, I agree. That looks like a game I would like to try. Also, the music sounded amazing - it was different from what we're used to from the C64, in that there wasn't a lot of drums and stuff going on in the background, instead the music seemed to focus on melody - and very beautiful melodies at that. I wish each clip of that game would have been longer, so I could have heard more of the music. Can we get the name of the game, so I could look it up?
Yes! Finally something that isn’t a platformer/sidescroller. Back in the day I was so tired of most C64 games being one of those 2 things that anything different would blow my mind. The first time I fired up “The Last Ninja” and “Maniac Mansion” come to mind...
C64 is amazing! It would be awesome if someone can port some of the pinball games such as Pinball Fantasies. Is there any new pinball game for C64 recently? Cheers!
Are you sure the game at 5:00 is called Alien Storm? All I can find online is a Space Invaders clone remake and an old Sega arcade conversion. Where'd you get the ROM, anyway?
I was going to get a C64 but when to shop a amiga 500 was on display I got that. But this looks great and the coding skills back then was so must better.
Too bad, Aliens: Neoplasma it's for ZX Spectrum only But for the Speccy, it's for your own price (even for free) For the C64 there is Alien 3 which is similar like that.
@@u64 Thanks for the reply! I was gonna say, there's no way that I missed EotB or Pig's Quest. Have you seen any of The Briley Witch Chronicles? Looks great so far.
Either there is some very odd editing going on, or I just don't understand Battle Kingdom's game mechanics. From the video it seems to switch levels spontaneously when there is only 1 enemy left, and I have no idea what prompted the sudden Game Over. If the idea is to show people games they do not know, please give just a little thought as to whether what you choose to show them makes sense.
@@u64 I think it's debatable what makes a scene the "best". For instance, showing killing every enemy except the last one on a level twice, but not showing even once what happens when you actually kill the last enemy on a level is just annoying to the viewer. Likewise suddenly showing a Game Over screen without ever showing the death that prompted it. That said, do what you like doing, and don't take comments from "some random guy on the internet" for more than it is ;-)
@Wishbone1977 Right, it's always a question of what someone wants to see :-) For me it's more art, and the interplay with the music. Then sometimes I have to make concessions
compare this to new Atari 8bit Game from same year th-cam.com/video/zRGpT-Kjxs8/w-d-xo.html Atari is colorful, sounds also good (only bit worse than C64) but GFX is much better

Absolutely right, but often I am just creative and follow the idea only :-)
Someone else usually makes the list with timestamps, it has happened here since then!
Wow, the background sound fx for that Alien game is amazing! Lots of fantastic looking and sounding games here. Good times.

"Nixy the Glade Sprite" i love this Graphics, genius work.
omg these look so great! who would have thought the best games for the c64 are coming out 40 years after its birth!
That Eye of the Beholder port is amazing! So's the Galaga port!
Eye of the beholder is so colorful and almost hires. Could it still get some Wolfenstein3d animation?
It’s spectacular!

I'm blown away by the smooth high-res scrolling and layered sprites of whatever game is 4:03 mark. Looks very atypical for a c64.

Eye of the Beholder on the C64 - Speachless!

I'm amazed that's even possible on a C64.
I am amaze.
The stuff just gets better and better. There's not a single game here that I wouldn't want to play.
As a kid I always drew sprites/graphics.
Have a special kind of appreciation for these early game graphics.
thank you for the video, may i suggest putting the name of the games?

Nice job on the Galaga port!
Dat aliens game, though! amazing atmosphere and graphics.
Night Knight is like Bubble Bobble but without the bubbles

@@u64 Thanks!
A Pig Quest, eh? I guess "This Little Piggy Puts a New Spin on Ghosts & Goblins" would be a funny nickname for it. 🙂
Yeahh. Epic Quest you know... 😉
impressive work on the way
Fantastic games, new productions of games for the "mith" Commodore 64, i don't belive !!!
It would be great if you can show the names of the games

strange - to me I thought it was a rehash of Bob Dylan's - Blowin' in the wind..
How great is that Alien game?
geniales juegos, me hacen recordar a mi infancia, +1 subscriptor
