I'll admit, the first episode in english I wasn't really sure, she seemed a bit off in tone, especially with how expressive her VA in japanese is. But wow, she now totally owns her character, her voice acting seems much more natural now and really capturing how expressive, hesitant, and passionate marcille is, so great to see her grow!! This is becoming easily one of my favorite anime, the humor, the action, the mystery, the sense of adventure is really inspiring!
Yeah, you can actively hear her voice acting getting better with each episode, and I think that's cool.
I actually prefer her voice in English. It is less expressive than the Japanese but it has more character, I'd say.
its very different from what im used to because ive previously only watched it with subtitles, but the english voice actors are definitely very skilled even if it's not exactly the same
Agree with everyone. She gets better and better. By the end of the season, she is amazing.

Eng dubbed anime is often pretty hit-or-miss, but I kind of adore the English voice for Marcille. She's adorable.
Yeah I was surprised. I watched every episode so far in English. Everyone really did a good job.
One reason why the English dub is so good is that they're not trying to make it exactly like the original, they're matching the vibe more than the words.
I like the English dub more because it's felt more like the fantasy world of Dungeons and Dragons. Perfect for anybody that likes Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter with their weird food.
Yeah I watched the dub because I'd seen clips of Sung Won Cho as Senshi, but Rudd is a pleasant surprise. It's a character type that could very easily go wrong but she works.
fun fact, the one who voiced Marcille in the English dub is Emily Rudd/Nami from La One Piece. This is her first time voice acting as far as I know.
I love how Emily just sounds a casual sounding girl and not trying to pitch her voice.❤
Considering it just factually makes anime girls cuter I don't see the issue with the Japanese higher pitched voice acting

One episode in, and Marcille already got a video clip featuring her. Marcille is the first best girl of 2024. As it should be.
I've only known Marcille for one episode, and I already have her as best girl. Especially 3:39.
Don't know Emily Rudd well, but I feel like she does the "only sane" elf woman justice IMO.

Both the JP & EN VA's do an excellent job of portraying Marcelle and matching each others' energy. You don't see that often in anime. I'm happy this is one of those more uncommon examples.
Both of them are so perfect to voice marcille. The casting was perfect.

I really like the english dub, her voice varies a lot and its quite fresh. She sounds charming and reaply expressive.

Emily does a really good job by voicing Marcille ! Compared to Sayaka Senbongi's Marcille, the former' make the said character more mature but still fitting.
Sub & Dub are well done, I'm on the sub personally. I had so much fun hearing Sayaka and think she may have another great role.
Huh, it's pretty good, I could see myself watching it in english in a rewatch or on a reaction video.
People are saying Emily is a good VA and honestly, she sounds better than a lot of anime dub voice actors I've heard lately. Not all but a lot of anime just haven't had good dubs or just the occasional voice actor who carries the entire thing. Bryce Papenbrook for example was not a good fit for Eren until season 4 when he could use is normal voice whilst both of Sasha's actors were perfect. Then you have Beastars who has a great dub cast.

Hi! Voice actor for Crunchyroll here. I think that's not true. All my fellow VA friends are extremely talented but we don't always get a say in what we want to do. Some dubs are held and run from a business standpoint rather than creative. Even the directors are only allowed to do so much but ultimately, they're still cast because they were the best fit for the roll. Most of the time though, we don't see the script until the day we go in. People like Bryce were made for that roll from day one. We aren't trying to match the JP. We're making it our own thing. That way, if you prefer one over the other, you can go either route and enjoy what you enjoy. The industry was drastically different 10 years ago and even different just 2 years ago. We're always giving it our all though.

日本人だからやっぱり日本の声優は贔屓目に見ちゃいがちで、最初のシーンとか「やっぱ日本の声優上手いなぁ」とか思って見てたけど、人喰い植物のシーンとかどっちのマルシルも上手くて感動した。
あとこの動画の本題と関係ないけどセンシの声はどっちもとても好き

@@user-jg555kjl because female voice actors in Japan do a higher pitched voice to please the Japanese audience. Voice actors are probably of similar age, but Japan often favours higher pitched voices to please otaku.

美少女アニメやエロゲーならともかく、一般人向けのアニメで「もっと媚びるように声を高くして」とディレクションする音響監督が居ると思ってるのかな？
あと体格・身長の差異で一般的に日本人女性は、欧米人よりも声が高い傾向にあるから年齢で比較する意味も無い
日本人と欧米人が想像するデフォルトの女性の声の高さには大きな認識の違いがあると思う

German dub for her would be my best because she's unhinged and I love it.
I went straight for the sub by default, but this is a stellar performance by the English VA. Gonna give the dub a chance.

Emily's the reason why I watched the english dub instead of the original japanese. Her being such a fan of anime clearly has helped in how she's voiced the character. It'll never be the same as in japanese, but that's what the japanese version is for.
言語の特徴なのか日本語だと淡々としてるのが英語だと抑揚が付いているというか増えているのが面白いですね

I agree, marcilles voice sounds really cute, and it fits her perfectly, very shyish kind of tone.

I read the manga quite a few years ago and never wait for an anime adaptation, so it was a really good surprise to see the first episodes.
Funnily enough, I actually did imagine Marcille's voice to be a bit deeper than in the sub.

Her hesitance reminds me so much of that Spongebob episode where they're all eating the food from the sky and Squidward's over in his camp trying to cook a bug.

Yeah, it feels amazing and refreshing to hear the fictional characters talk like...how people would talk in real life and not be overly-acted. It's just the balance of wackiness and realism that makes it **chef's kiss**

The dub for this anime is honestly pretty good and has it's own unique funny moments (Mushroom foot sniffer... 🤣), but I still think the Japanese dub w/ subs edges it out as the better one **overall**, but I will say I definitely wouldn't mind watching this anime in English dub.
Well, me who is picky eater himself can relate with Marcille. Love her voices of both subs and dubs already 😂

Y'know what? I like how natural the reactions come across in the dub. They sound more like normal people and less like "anime characters", if that makes sense, especially Marcille. Yep, I think I'm sticking with the dub on this one!
More naturalistic voice acting can clash a bit with over-the-top animation, but this series is pretty grounded so it works OK. I do think I prefer the Japanese version, but the English dub seems decent.
Same, I usually prefer sub for anime, but after trying the dub for this, I actually like it better.

I completely agree! I’ve only ever like english dub on Sailor Moon (unironically, becuz it’s very funny), but lately with Frieren and now Dungeon Meshi, the dub is just sublime! 🤩
