    Sampras running forehand
    Serve volley - above Federer!
If he kept playing and upgraded his racquet his slam tally would have had a few more notches.
Same with Agassi playing his best surface Oz open at 25.
Can't compare generations but God I'd love to see the big 3 now on this court!

Up until July, 6th, 2008, this was the greatest ever match in the history of the Open Era. One for the ages!

      @@hernanbusso1609 Safin vs Federer?
      Some match.
But the sheer artistry of the '08 Wimbledon final - not to mention its significance, symbolism and various sub-plots - as well as the drama and the grandeur lent by the fading of the light, elevates that match above any other, in the modern era. It transcended tennis in a way no other match has apart from, perhaps, Borg Vs McEnroe, in 1980.

@@RM871 It has a big legacy for sure, but I think 2007 final is as good if not better in terms of level. It lacked that final set drama, Nadal got demotivated after wasting two consecutive *15-40 on Federer's serve and then getting broken and handed the set. 2008 wasn't that great in terms of level, Federer was poor in the first two sets, as he was most of the year until that point, losing to the likes of Mardy Fish in straight sets, to Roddick whom he owned and a disastrous performance against Nadal in RG. Nadal then choked a bit in the next two sets and the final set was great.
I think AO 2017 surpassed that in terms of meaning. Both looked done and dusted. Nadal hadn't won a slam in almost 3 years and Federer in almost 5. They had injuries. And then came back and reached a slam final with some epic performances and had a 5-set battle.

Agree with you regarding the standard of the '07 final - another all-time classic. Nadal was the better player and would've won the match but for the injury he sustained at the beginning of the 5th (if I remember correctly).
Disagree on Federer being poor in the first 2 sets, in '08 - the shot making from both, especially in the early stages, was ridiculous! I wouldn't say Federer's form leading into that match, was poor. A Roland Garros final (yes, where Nadal was incredible and played him off the court) and arriving at the Wimbledon final without dropping a set is a pretty decent show, for me.
'17 was incredible, for the reasons you mentioned, agreed. But, for me , the 4th set tiebreak, in '08, - with Nadal's forehand at, 7-7, and Fed's backhand, at 8-7 - took that match to an unprecedented standard.
