  • Amish Stopped Selling Their Fresh Eggs Are They Hoarding Them
We went to a local amish store today to price eggs and maybe even buy some to see if we could tell a difference but to our surprise they have stopped selling fresh farm eggs to the local community.

I don’t think they’re “hoarding” the eggs 🥚 I think it’s more about supplying their community first. As it should be. Another 100,000 chickens were torched in Connecticut this past weekend.

It’s more that they want us to eat lab meat and cockroach milk while the “elites” eat steak. They want one chicken producer, one egg producer. For ALL the people.

I have 4 chickens that came of age late fall. We get 4 eggs a day. They free range in my backyard and only have to feed them when the ground is covered in snow. I do give them scratch and table scraps. I’m in the city so limited to 4 with no roosters. I get jumbo eggs. I also share my eggs with friends and family.

Good evening from some very rural Northwoods Maine homesteaders. Loved the video, thanks, and keep up the good works that you do. Our chicken egg supply is low, (2 flats). Since we changed feed and are now supplementing heavily with vegs/grains we've grown along with some deer, duck & rabbit meat from our stores, things are getting better. (Here in Maine, our ducks > 1 yr entirely cease laying for 3 months, so no way to know on duck eggs). I wish & pray for success for all of us on here at being self-sustainable. God bless!

It is normal for chickens to stop laying eggs in the fall and into the winter. My free-range chickens stop laying right after the fall equinox in September. They just started laying again. They are probably not selling fresh eggs, because they don't have enough to sell right now. If it goes on into the spring that would seem significant.

Chickens do lay less in the winter and I’ve also heard that with the disease that infected some of the large chicken farms had something to do with the higher egg prices because they had to cull their entire flocks. Who really knows though! I’m just glad I have my own chickens and eggs.

Tomato jam is actually good. Same with beet jelly. I made mine with either strawberry jell or raspberry flavored. Both were really good. If the egg tastes like dill pickles, I would be willing to try them.

Maybe the pickled eggs would work well in potato or pasta salads. Just a thought. Give the girls a chance to try again in a week or two. Kids can have aversions to things that are completely new until they get used to it.

I know I'd be driving out to the Amish community to buy pickled eggs & a few of their baked goods. They stick to all their home grown good & produce using their heritage recipes. They are quite good!! They are most likely keeping the eggs to share with their close family farm. That's something that Americans have stopped doing since moving into the big cities. This problem stems from the government & granaries. They more than likely told Purina to cut way back on the quality of protein in the grain. When you reduce the quality of the grain the chickens will lay less eggs. I would try buying your grain from a local farm and look at the protein in the package, it needs to be above 18 to 21 percent. Good luck with your farm, I pray with a higher grain quality, your chickens will start producing. Kids normally won't like pickled eggs unless they enjoy a good Dill pickle!! In Louisiana even bars sell pickles.🌴🌹

The kids crack me up lol. My kids are all teenagers now and they have and will eat anything that doesn't eat them first! We do an Asian style pickled eggs here, made with soy sauce, thin sliced ginger, whole green onions and carrot sticks also pickled in with them and everyone loves them. As far as chickens, mine haven't laid a thing in months. We've started adding in more scraps lately and hopefully that will help. There's an old farmers tale that says a rounder egg will hatch into a hen, a potty egg will be a roo. We will be adding to our foock this spring too. Getting ready to start some seeds soon as well. Keep on with it!

Love tomato jam. I think it's what you get used to. All the farms back home growing up in farm country........all the ladies made tomato jam with the leftovers or smaller fruit and it was delicious. You should try it on warm home made bread with butter melted on it and then some tomato jam........yummmm love it! Delicious!
I noted some of the other homesteaders were saying they had low times in winter when the hens shut down production and then it picked up after the colder weather let up a bit. I am sure those girls need a rest from laying...LOL I am sure it will pick up again.

What an interesting and "real" video. Thank you for sharing it. Kids are funny aren't they? My granddaughter won't eat anything we grow because we grow it in "dirt" and "chicken poo". She eats a lot of store bought Yellow pasta and "store bought" tomato sauce. Won't touch home grown. I guess she figures food grows magically somehow in grocery stores. She does eat eggs though, so that's good. She's doesn't know what hunger is or she wouldn't be so picky. She'll learn. In the meantime, keep up the good work and stay dry and warm. Wishing you all the best. From Northern Cana duh.
