"Stereotypical UtA" Yep. You're god damn right it is. And that stereotype is crazy talented, insanely catchy, fast paced, high energy power metal. UTA is one of those bands whose songs get even more awesome with repeated listens because you keep discovering layers of cool details you hadn't noticed before, whether it's a lead melody, a drum fill, an unconventional time shift, or a subtle homage to other bands. Case in point: the 10 or so seconds before Brittney's opening scream on Awakening. That part always sends shivers down my spine, and after a couple of listens I realized why: it sounds a lot like the opening of Queensryche's classic Queen Of The Reich. I freaking love this band, and it would be awesome if I ever got the chance to see them live.
They also did a full cover as a bonus track for the Japanese release of Apex. (Can be found on TH-cam, but the video is just a still of the album cover.)
This is true, the thing with repeated listens: I've purchased Apex and Abyss at the same time and have given it a spin one right after the other one, and at first, I was not so impressed with Abyss, but now, I think it is better than Apex.

"General of the Dark Army" is a much darker song and shows the band I think not too many years after Andrew and Grant joined, and they kind of found the sound they have now, but before they started layering vocals a lot more or adding synthetics. "Northwest Passage" will very likely make you tear up. "Test Your Metal" is an absolute banger of a chanting song, and you'll probably get a lot of nostalgia for touring 😉. If you want something a little different from their usual sound, you could try 'Legacy', also from Abyss, and there's a video for it (though again, gear light). Another good one (with some gear) is 'Cleanse the Bloodlines' from Apex.
Great reaction tank, love ur face expressions when you watch UTA, Cleanse the Bloodlines should be next one, its an epic tune and music video to go with it, then Tonight We Ride for the full Britney Slayes Vocal Power performance also have great harsh vocals on both these tracks too
Both Abyss and Apex was recorded at Hansen studios with Jakob Hansen handling engineering, mixing and mastering 8no producer is mentioned). Just bought both Abyss, Apex and Northwestern Passage about a month ago, only know of them through reaction channels on youtube.
I remember seeing a Brittney interview, where she was talking about this video. She said the bystanders would clap along when she held up the trophy, and just went along with the events in the video.
Great reaction! The video is a pretty good metaphor for the song. The song is about The Immortal and their allies fleeing from The Matriarch. The Matriarch takes down the Immortal's allies through their flight until the final confrontation in the next track: "The Wind That Shapes The Land"
Great reaction, man! UTA are definitely power metal, but I think they’re something more as well. Other reactions have compared Awakening specifically to Iron Maiden, and I agree that they have a classic sound as well. And as you dive into UTA’s discography you’ll find a lot more harsh vocals in their older albums. The band’s been on an interesting musical journey, but I firmly believe they’re at their best now, and the stories Brittney wrote for Apex and Abyss make the music even more amazing. I hope you’ll get the chance to listen to these two albums with the lyrics, and definitely check out Brittney’s track-by-track explanation for both albums. Together, the albums tell a great story. I can’t help but get emotional over the events of the story in Abyss. Unleash the Archer’s have absolutely taken me on a journey, and I love(d) every moment of it!
Awesome one Tank. Love this song. UTA always bring it. Now i have to listen to the album again. Reaction Request: If you want to discover 2 bands at once. Grave Digger - Rebellion (feat. Hansi (Blind Guardian) and Van Canto) live at Waken 2010. They are a German heavy metal band that sing about Scottish history (which I know you like). This video has everything: Bagpipes, awesome bass line, shredding solo, waken crowd singing. I hope you get the chorus stuck in your head as long as I have. Van canto is a German accapella metal band but where they differ is including a real drum kit instead of beatboxing.
Tank: Not sure if you're familiar with it, but _The Long Walk_ seems to be the book that inspired some movies: 1) Running Man, with Arnold Schwarzennegger 2) Battle Royale, a movie from Japan that inspired other movies on this list 3) The Condemned, with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and Vinnie Long 4) The Hunger Games 5) The _Death Race_ series of movies
Damn my first thought was The Long Walk, fantastic story, and then you said it. Like wise I had a teacher when I was 12 not liking me reading Firestarter by Stephen King. And metal is metal, love it all.
YAY! UtA are just GREAT! Man I love this song. And everything else they ever did:) You know as you say you're getting more into power metal, you should really check out Rhapsody. Andy of UtA said that "Faster than light" was inspired by "Emerald Sword" by Rhapsody. That song is from way back in -98, when Rhapsody were sort of bridging Power Metal and Symphonic Metal. It is a band of insanely talented musicians that don't get anywhere near the recognition they deserve.
good choice Tank... how about to do some of these: Design your Universe (live) / Unleashed (live ) - Epica The Scarecrow (The flying Opera live) - Avantasia Burning Time (live) / Angels Holocaust / Dante's Inferno- Iced Earth
I think the video for Northwest Passage will hit home for you a bit. It's an homage to them touring with a bit of a twist. Would make for a great reaction video. But for pure headbanging enjoyment you need to react to Cleanse the Bloodlines.
Cool video! Love the song for sure. Love the old school power metal. If you need a thief one from them you have to listen to Cleanse the bloodlines . Is is different a little bit it great plus the video! Also props on the old school hockey shirt from a fellow hockey guy.
It's very cool to watch reactions from someone with real understanding and passion for the subject matter. I've been subbed for 4 days but I like your attitude towards music. I would like to recommend you listen to "Haggard - Eppur Si Muove", even if you don't record your reaction, you are going to love it. I think they no longer play live because it was too hard to set everyone up, but I may be wrong.
They recorded the video during COVID so they were pretty limited to what they could do, which is why the MV seems unrelated, but they just wanted to have some fun
Their earlier stuff, like from their first and second albums, is really interesting. They have a lot more growls and harsher vocals. I had only downloaded them recently and was surprised at the contrast of that music vs newer songs like these. I don’t think they have actual music videos but perhaps on your own time you can check out the albums: Behold Devastation and Demons of the AstroWaste. (Which I think General of the Dark Army is from).
Brittany did an interview about this video. Apparently they had a terrible time finding a site that wasn't too busy. And when she "won", the clapping fans in the back were just people who happened to be there. Heh heh. Rock on, Sir! 🤘🤘
Elisabath "The Charismatic Voice" just had an awesome 1 hour and 40 minutes long interview with Brittney. (on march 12) Worth a watch IMO. For more insight to this video Alex Heffner did a reaction/interview with Brittney when the video premiered. As a guitar player and a tech head i hope you soon will be able to make that interview with Grant. But family comes first so a huge congrats on the coming addition. I have a question about Scott if you get a chance to relay it. The tempo in UTA songs are so fast that I'm gettin' out of breath just by listening. So I'm wondering what kind of physical shape Scott has to be in to keep up with that tempo. Does he do physical exercises or are he superman in disguise?
I'd like to recommend Machinae Supremacy, from Sweden. "SID" Metal, lots of inspiration from retro video game music. I'd suggest the song "Force Feedback", it touches upon the clash of modern age of technology and the mentality of those "from ancient times"
I'm going to continue suggesting Test Your Metal. I know you'll come across that one sooner or later, but man...that's a nice throwback banger and Brittney hits impossible notes.

I can’t help but get emotional over the events of the story in Abyss. Unleash the Archer’s have absolutely taken me on a journey, and I love(d) every moment of it!
Yes! More Unleash the Archers!!!
Tank:
Not sure if you're familiar with it, but _The Long Walk_ seems to be the book that inspired some movies:
1) Running Man, with Arnold Schwarzennegger
2) Battle Royale, a movie from Japan that inspired other movies on this list
3) The Condemned, with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and Vinnie Long
4) The Hunger Games
5) The _Death Race_ series of movies
Damn my first thought was The Long Walk, fantastic story, and then you said it. Like wise I had a teacher when I was 12 not liking me reading Firestarter by Stephen King. And metal is metal, love it all.
Congrats on the little roadie!
ULA is awesome and this album is so good. I've listened to the whole thing so much on my spotify since it came out
I love the Beast in Black in the background.
good choice Tank... how about to do some of these:
Design your Universe (live) / Unleashed (live ) - Epica
The Scarecrow (The flying Opera live) - Avantasia
Burning Time (live) / Angels Holocaust / Dante's Inferno- Iced Earth
I think the video for Northwest Passage will hit home for you a bit. It's an homage to them touring with a bit of a twist. Would make for a great reaction video.
But for pure headbanging enjoyment you need to react to Cleanse the Bloodlines.
@TankTheTech, if u pay attention, the video does follow the story as they’re tryin to escape from the Matriarch (the gunman).
"Cleanse the Bloodlines" from UTA. You're gonna love it.
But first you really need to see "The Gunman" by Orlando Ogan. Excellent power metal.
*Orden Ogan...but yes...they are excellent and should find a few reactions on this channel. Severely underrated/overlooked metal band.
@@rivanlords1 I type their name all the time... friggin auto correct
Dope song for sure
SOOO GOOOOOD!
Got a speeding ticket last week with this song in my speakers.
We watch your reactions as your beard grows mightier and mightier every time.
💪💪💪🤘🤘🤘
Cool video! Love the song for sure. Love the old school power metal. If you need a thief one from them you have to listen to Cleanse the bloodlines . Is is different a little bit it great plus the video!
Also props on the old school hockey shirt from a fellow hockey guy.
I love how you have Dio in the background, considering Brittney is the second coming of him :)
Thanks a lot, man! That means a ton. I'll throw it on the list!
and putting holy diver in the background after the song, nice
They recorded the video during COVID so they were pretty limited to what they could do, which is why the MV seems unrelated, but they just wanted to have some fun
Their earlier stuff, like from their first and second albums, is really interesting. They have a lot more growls and harsher vocals. I had only downloaded them recently and was surprised at the contrast of that music vs newer songs like these.
I don’t think they have actual music videos but perhaps on your own time you can check out the albums: Behold Devastation and Demons of the AstroWaste. (Which I think General of the Dark Army is from).
I Love UTA. I Love UTA reactions. Thanks again brother. Good stuff.
Your “recommendations” page at the end looked like mine would. Destiny videos, “The Charismatic Voice”, etc, lol.
Brittany did an interview about this video. Apparently they had a terrible time finding a site that wasn't too busy. And when she "won", the clapping fans in the back were just people who happened to be there. Heh heh. Rock on, Sir! 🤘🤘
YES Tank!!!
One of my favorite bands.
Whenever you can squeeze it in, I still recommend, Brothers of Metal, Ignea, Dear Mother, Delain, and Tarot.
Thanks.
Brothers of Metal are a band I just picked up recently, they're great.
Nice work Tank! Did you see Seabrook retired? Oh yeah, with UTA you have to check out General Of The Dark Army. It is great!
Time to go back a couple years to the second album release in 2012 and check out General of the Dark Army.
Unleash the Archers brings this fresh power metal sound cemented on NWOBHM principles, great reaction bro as usual.
NWOBHM principles, ? yeah i'm old explain please.. and Thank You ! Cheers !!
Should you listen to more Unleash the Archers?
Tank Fact: Yes.
