Abyss is the Awakening equivalent in the story about the Immortal. But this time, instead of being awoken in his mountain, he wakes up on a spaceship confused, wondering why he isn't in his mountain lair.
To stick true with the story, I'd say listen to Shadow Guide(chp2) and The Matriarch(chp3) on your own time, and if you like, read the lyrics from those songs, as well as Awakening (chp1). Then come in with a banger reaction to Cleanse The Bloodlines (chp4). It has an epic video and the song is epic.
Enough of my Pitter Patter. This hoser approves 🤣

Unleash the Archers has a song called "Northwest passage" that sounds like an anthem, metal style. It's so cool that the harmonies are so nice.
EDIT; I just watched Britney's video on the MV of this song where she explained "Northwest passage" is a cover song written by Stan Rogers, and is apparently known as Canada's second national anthem, so it makes sense it sounds like one...

The more I listen to this song, the more I freaking love it. The guitar riff during the chorus reminds me of the classic Helloween and Gamma Ray sound, and that's always a plus on my book. I'll be honest, the first time I heard UTA, I wasn't all that impressed with Britt's voice but she's definitely grown on me. And damn, she has some great sustain on those high notes. IMMORTAL IS MORE THAN A NAME!
    ABYSS
Open my eyes in a daze
How long has it been? Am I so out of place?
Warmth I can no longer feel
My mountain is gone, I'm surrounded by steel
The strangest of structures arises ahead, seems to be held up by nothing
Where have I gone, do I dream? How can the stars be all I can see?
    Dark embrace
Has someone awakened me? Please show your face
    Cold and quiet space
Out so far beyond stars and the sun, filling my heart up with wonder, unknown
Now, to the edge of imagination, open my eyes to phenomenon, and hope
    Feverishly I explore
Searching for someone, there has to be more
I can't be the only one here
My path always guides me, there's nothing to fear
Then why do I feel so immensely alone, this can't be the end of my story
Onward I go once again, fighting my way to my final breath
    Into the abyss
Out so far beyond stars and the sun, filling my heart up with wonder, unknown
Now, to the edge of imagination, open my eyes to phenomenon, and hope
Summon the strength of millenniums past, forged by the fire and flame
I am the weapon of empires vast, Immortal is more than a name
Cry into the chasm ahead, into to the sky never ending, although
Time will tell if I'm worthy of it, a future of final transcending, alone

Great video tank! On the Bass situation, after they had a few bass players leave right after an album (Brittney jokingly said they could predict the post-album tour conversation to go "I'm broke and my girlfriend hates me, I'm out...") they've been in a situation where they don't want to just add a bass player and potentially affect the mesh of the band, which is super tight atm, unless they are absolutely sure it's THE person for the future. Combine that with I believe Nick Miller, their touring bassist (Who is awesome, saw him in '18 on their tour) living in Eastern Canada while they're in the West, they just don't see it as a reason to rush the decision.

Abyss is a continuation of the story their Apex album tells. So you've got 2 albums to listen to!! Britt has put out videos on youtube breaking down the story in the songs, you should check them out!

Edit: not part of the Apex/Abyss story, but just an awesome album that deserves recognition.

Awesome reaction. This new album has seriously been on repeat for the better part of a month now. Everyone is giving you great info on where to go next with these guys and the story behind these last two albums. Can’t wait for more UTA!

Tank: I wonder who the new bass player is?
    Me: lmfao
Love the reaction btw. If you really wanna hear more of Brittney's vocal range, you should check out Tonight We Ride. Faster than Light and Legacy would also be phenomenal places to continue.
Edit: Just saw the end, and if you're planning on actually going through everything from the concept albums in order as reactions, then the next one you'd want to cover is Shadow Guide off of their album Apex. Although I don't believe that one has a lyric/music video.

Damn is right! If I whip my head around like that now at my age I'll end up in traction...haha...Great reaction! Super interesting break down on the gear. Never seen that in a reaction vid before. Yep Brittney shows off greater range at the high end in "Tonight We Ride" and I can't get enough of "Legacy". As a sci-fi/fantasy nerd, too, the story set to power metal check all the boxes for me.

  • @dandyprime5338
    @dandyprime5338 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah, Apex from 2017 is the start of the story and Abyss concludes it. It's a fantasy story about a being called The Immortal who lives in a mountain and is cursed to do the bidding of whoever awakens him. The Matriarch is the antagonist of the story and awakens The Immortal and tasks him with murdering her four sons so she can use their blood in a ritual to gain eternal life. That's the basic plot and the songs have more details to flesh everything out across both albums. So it's obviously recommend to react to the songs in order, starting with Apex and going through it until you end it with Abyss' final track.
If you want more Unleash the Archers that is not tied to this double-album story, then check out these songs:
    "General of the Dark Army"
    "Tonight We Ride"
    "Test Your Metal"
    "Northwest Passage"
    "Dawn of Ages"
    Thanks Tank!

The Apex album was and is amazing, yet I think that Abyss surpasses it in every way. Listening to both albums back to back is a fun way to experience the story. Then watch all the track-by-track videos on youtube where Brittney goes on a deep dive into the lore/story for every single song. Would love to watch you react to the rest of the songs from both albums in order.
But if you think going through the Apex and Abyss albums in order is a bit too much for the channel, here's a list of Unleash the Archers songs you should definitely react to: Tonight We Ride, Northwest Passage, Cleanse the Bloodlines, The Matriarch, Apex, Soulbound, Faster Than Light, Legacy

Great reaction, Tank. I think they use a session bass player and I know that they have had a traveling player with them on tour. Taken together, Apex and Abyss are Masterworks. If you want a quick 3 minute banger, listen to "Shadow Guide" on Apex. Cleanse the bloodlines, and Earth and Ashes are great and then there is the title song Apex . That song blew me away, and still does every time I hear it

Exactly on her being the daughter of DIO, as that was my first impression, too. And it's not just her tone or deeper sound..... it is also not only just her power but it is also her mannerisms, her movements, her timing, and her passion. And the way she pronounces the letter T at the end of certain words, more so on other songs where you hear the word night and fight and Light.

Off of this same album, "Through Stars" and "Carry the Flame" are amazing. "Carry the Flame" sounds to me like one of those old, classic 80s power ballads, but cranked up to like 15; and "Through Stars" is IMO the best song on the album by far. That song has got everything you want good power metal to have: it's got hooks (both vocally and instrumentally), it's got great melodies, it's got soaring and uplifting vocals (specifically the chorus). As far as "Through Stars" goes, I have not had a song sink its hooks into me that quickly or that hard just on the very first listen in a very long time!

    • @rocioiribe5841
      @rocioiribe5841 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

through stars is underrated and understated. The way the solo in the end repeats the chorus melody is my fav part of that song. Perfect driving song.

From memory, they had a revolving door of bassists for a while and when the last guy parted ways, they decided to pretty much drop the spot to prevent any further creative conflicts.
