Its been a while since I saw the interview, but I believe she stated her influences are Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Queensryche. There’s no bad choice for which song you do next, but for a great contrast, you might want to try Northwest Passage or Time Stands Still.

  • @Z_TPI
    @Z_TPI 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

I know you're a vocal coach and don't focus too much on lyrics, but I'll leave this here anyway.. Band info included after lyric breakdown...
Here's a vague breakdown to give you a bit of context behind this songs lyrics and the album it's from - Apex(2017).
This is a concept album telling a story track by track about an Immortal being. This is the opening song(chapter 1) on the album. It is sung from the Immortals perspective(not all the tracks are), about being awoken in his mountain hollow from a 1000 year sleep. As a covenant of birth, the immortal must do the bidding of whoever awakens him. As the tracks progress, you find out that The Matriarch(which is played by the male vocalist in this song Awakening) was the one to awaken him. She wants him to find her four sons, so she can kill them and perform a blood ritual to gain immortality for herself(pretty dark haha), and his journey to find them. Each son has their own song about them on the album. The closing song Apex, is about the immortal going back to sleep in his mountain and it is a phenomenally written song.
Their new album which came out in August 2020, is a continuation of this story, and the immortal has awoken on a spaceship confused as hell wondering where his mountain is, from the single Abyss. I won't go into the rest of the album 🤘🇨🇦
They are from Victoria, British Columbia.
    Brittney Slayes - Vocals
    Grant Truesdell - Guitar/Harsh Vocals
    Scott Buchanan - Drums
Andrew Kingsley - Guitar/Clean and Harsh Vocals
Other songs to check out by UTA:
    Extreme Vocals - A5 Belting:
    Tonight We Ride (official video)
    Time Stands Still (official video)
    Awesome Harmonies/Layering:
    Legacy (lyric video)
    Soulbound (official video)
    Epic Storytelling:
    Cleanse The Bloodlines (official video)
The Wind That Shapes The Land (official audio) also it's their best composed piece of music in my opinion. The composition matches the emotions of the lyrics and is a masterpiece
    Breath Control:
Abyss (official video - she finishes the song with a 21 second run on one breath)

Her voice is just the most powerful engine. You get the feeling in most of the songs not just of range (which is astonishing - those high harmonies? wow), but also, it's like she could put the pedal down and just sustain forever in the power of those notes. Really something. Great reaction. I do think an interesting contrast reaction would be to Northwest Passage - completely different kind of song.

Nothing better than watching a musician watch this video! The most talented musicians all together and, you're correct, that no one person outshines another. To top it all off, this song begins a 2 album epic fantasy/sci-fi story. If you want to see more, my personal favorites are abyss, faster than light and soul bound. That was grant with the uncleans. This band is a combination of musicians who have mastered their craft, and a woman with a very powerful voice, and a group that synergizes very well together. This reminds me of some very good classic rock bands like iron maiden and Metallica where they just played so well together and feed off of each other’s energy.

Christie, all the member's in U.T.A are talented, you'll notice that quite quickly in.
Brittany Slays, singer, hails from Canada. To me Brittnay has skills, she really has outstanding vocal ability.
P.S. I believe Brittany & the Drummer are a couple too.
Anyways, I can't wait for you're "bedazzled" by this band like I was.

Hi, Christie! Power Metal describes a metal subgenre with fast-pase rhythms and high overall bpm -- generally speaking. It has this feeling of something grand, open, and is charging you with energy -- for me at least :) Brittney is crazy good, she can go sooo high witout any apparent effort.
I wanted to leave a suggestion here for you: please take a look at Charlotte Wessels with her song "Soft Revolution". She was a frontwoman and a songwriter of Delain, Dutch Symphonic Metal band, since 2005 -- but this february, after releasing six albums, this parted ways, and now Charlotte is doing her solo music with the help of her Patreon community. Her songs are absolutely magical, and her voice... well, you need to hear it yourself!) Please take a look at Charlotte: I'm sure you'll love this! :)

Welcome to the UTA power metal masterclass. Great reaction, Christi - probably my favourite reaction to this song, and I've seen quite a few now. I love how you broke down all parts of the song and showed appreciation for how everything was performed and how it all comes together to make an amazing performance. So many people just focus on the lead vocalist and don't understand how the actual music enhances their performance. Having said that, Brittney does Slay. I think the vocalist doing the extreme vocals was Grant Tuesdell, and I think it was more of fry with a dash of growl in this case, than a full false-fold growl, which is why it had more tonal quality. Most full growls are a lot lower in pitch. I haven't watched your channel for a while - busy time - but I saw you were reacting to this song, so I just had to watch. I have no regrets. I loved your excitement and your appreciation of the musicians' skills. It still blows me away every time I watch it. This is also the first time I've seen your new hairdo. It looks great. I also like 'Tonight We Ride' and 'Cleanse The Bloodlines' for more of the same from UTA and some epic music videos, but 'Northwest Passage' is something very different that you might like to compare.
If you like seeing this sort of metal mastery and a mix of clean and extreme vocals, you should also check out Finnish band, Wintersun's epic 'Sons of Winter and Stars' live play-through, with a young Kai Hahto, 'the human metronome', and Nightwish's current drummer, on drums. The metres are insane - too complex for my non-musical brain to follow at times, but you might be able to appreciate it more - with incredible periods of sustained 'blast speed' drumming from Kai. The guitars, bass and drums are incredibly tight and evolve through several different styles, as do the clean and unclean vocals from the lead singer, Jari Maenpaa (several umlauts missing from that - bloody Finns), who uses, growls, fries and a very emotive, soulful clean voice, then mixes and matches with several different hybrid versions of all of those. The bassist and lead guitarist, Jukka Koskinen and Teemu Mantysaari, also do some amazing clean and extreme vocals in back-up and chorus, and either of them could probably be lead vocalists as well - they sound that good.
On a completely different tangent, you should try reacting to (or just watching) 'The Wagakki Band', a Japanese Folk Rock/Metal/Pop/Jazz/Classical/Whatever-they-feel-like-today band, that combines traditional Japanese instruments (literally 'wagakki' - koto, shamisen, shakuhachi flute and wadaiko drums) with western rock instruments (drum kit, electric guitar, bass guitar, piano / keyboards). They have a communal composition style. Whoever comes up with the idea for a song, leads the composition, but each instrumentalist does their own arrangements. The lead vocalist is Yuko Suzuhana, who conceived and formed the band, plays piano / keyboards, wites most the ballads, and sings in a 'shigin' (traditional Japanese poetry recital) style, as well as conventional vocals, and punk/rap. Lead guitarist, Machiya, usually shares or backs up vocals, as does bassist, Asa, but other members sing occasionally aswell.
The shigin style vocal is very piercing, with a warbling vibrato, designed to cut through the metallic sound of the traditional instruments, and Yuko uses this regularly with conventional vocals and rap, which some people don't like, because it's so different to Western singing. My favourite tracks of theirs are 'Ignite' (fast/almost punk rock, written by guitarist, Machiya, with staccato rap vocals from Yuko and Machiya, and clean vocals from Yuko), and 'Synchronicity' (jazz/swing style duet with Machiya and Yuko, which is a conversation between a couple who are body-swapped when hit by lightning, written by Yuko).
There are often a lot of copyright issues with their music videos, due to their old record label, Avex, but their most recent live shows, under their new label, Universal, seem much more accessible for reactors. Songs from their 'React' EP Tour (2019), Premium Symphonic Night Vol. 2 (with full orchestra and collabs with Amy Lee from Evanescence), and their 'dai Shinnenkai' (New year) concerts from 2019, 2020 and 2021 seem pretty accessible and sound quality is good.
'Senbonzakura' (Thousand Cherry Blossoms), 'Akatsuki no Ito' (Threads of Dawn) and 'Tengaku' (Music of the Heavens) are some of their big hits, but Yuko's vocal styles are probably more highlighted on ballads, like 'Sabaku no Komoriuta' (Desert Lullaby), 'Izana' (Powerful Woman), 'Queen of the Night' (about the flower, not the aria) and 'Okinatayuu' (Albatross). 'Yoshiwara Lament' is a popular pop song written by bassist, Asa, and there are collabs with Amy Lee from Evanescence of 'Bring Me To Life' and 'Senbonzakura', plus they released a COVID-inspired track together with an animated music video called 'Sakura Rising' (Cherry Blossoms Rising). There are several of their songs that have been used as anime themes, like 'Aria of Life', 'Valkyrie', 'Rokuchounen to Ichiya Monogartari' (A Tale of Ten Thousand Years and a Night) and my favourite, because it's just insane, 'Noushou Sakuretsu Girl' (Brain Fluid Explosion Girl).
Finally, another interesting tangent for you might be 'Bol Hu' by Soch, The Band (Pakistani Soul), featuring Hadiya Hashmi. Don't research it too much. It has a WTF moment, like Jinjer's 'Pisces', but completely unlike Jinjer's 'Pisces'.

Brittney studied music at university in Vancouver. She was in choir and has has sung opera. She live-streamed an opera duet with a male Metal singer. She has done several interviews with TH-cam reactors and their label Napalm records doesn’t copyright things usually. They like the free publicity of their bands.

Okay, a few things about the band, especially Brittney:
    - Brittney loves combining different layers of her voice into 1. She calls it "the choir of Brittney's".
    - 2 of her influences that I know of are Iron Maiden (Bruce Dickinson) and Queensryque (Geoffe Tate).
    - Brittney is a classically trained singer, who has not only choir throughout her schooling, but also has a degree in musical theory, I believe.
    - Grant does most of the growls, if I'm not mistaken.
    - I know people mentioned that Brittney does regular interviews, but Grant has also done at least 1 interview with a reaction channel as well, through Tank the Tech's channel.
Recommendations: "Faster Than Light", "The Wind That Shapes the Land" (personal favourate), "Abyss", "Cleanse the Bloodline", and "Tonight We Ride".

How to pick great UTA songs for reaction: 1) make a round carboard cut-out and draw pizza slice pieces with UTA songs on 2) Place cut-out board on the wall 3) throw a dart with closed eyes at the board from 4 feet away 5) React to the song the dart landed on. P.S. Brittney is the female Bruce Dickinson minus fencing but add rugby.

Another great reaction and analysis! Another band that is absolutely fantastic is Seven Spires. Their front woman, Adrienne Cowan, is an absolute beast that carries the vocal styles ranging from soaring Power Metal to the shrieks and growls of Black Metal. "Succumb" is an excellent example of their more melodic sound while "Drowner of Worlds" is a great showcase of the harsher end of their spectrum. Keep up the awesome content!

First of all I am 66 and a disabled "used to be" drummer. In the early '70's Led Zeppelin was the premiere Heavy rock group for me. At the same time the group "Cactus" was befriending the "Zep crew and the drummer "Carmine Appice" eventually became good friends with Zep's drummer "John Bonham". After I believe their 3rd album the singer "Rusty Day" was murdered along with his daughter and brother over which is believed to be 200 dollars. "Day had a raspy, mid-range voice that was perfect for their style. There are 2 songs that showcase the vocals AND the bands skill. This was WAAAY before "Metal" as it is defined today. Those 2 songs are "Parchman Farm" and "Oleo". You would do me a great kindness if you would react to these. You will NOT get any other requests for them as they are obscure for most today. I am autistic and I love all kinds of music and have always listened to many kinds. If you even see this... yes... we are all tired and thank you for your time Also the studio tracks would be the best to listen to as any Live tracks are. .UGH in quality and the newer ones aren't as good without the original band mates

Unleash the Archers are making, hands down the best power metal in the world right now, it’s not even close. It makes me happy to see your appreciation for it 😁 this song is the opening track of their album Apex, it’s a concept album and it’s perfect, truly perfect, not a single miss on the whole thing. Apex was released in 2017, in 2020 they released the sequel album Abyss, another concept album that continues the story of Apex, and wouldn’t you know it? It’s another perfect album, just no bad songs anywhere to be seen, they haven’t made any subpar songs in about 6 years, they’re just amazing, this is my favorite band, ever. Period.
