It really makes beautiful images in low light. Of course, newer full frame mirrorless can as well, but on a budget it's unbeatable. Also, at higher ISO it produces a lovely grain very similar to film, not an ugly "noise" like others cameras.
I very much enjoy your channel and videos. I recently got back into photography to share shooting images with my adult daughter. I did not have a lot to spend and got myself a very nice D700 and some older Nikon lenses on e bay after watching videos like yours. I am very happy with it. I know it’s older but it has taken some just beautiful photographs. I love it!
Never get rid of it! There's a charm to the D700 I can't explain; it's my primary go to, keep in mind, I also have a D3X and D850. It's truly one of the best Nikon has made.
I love your content. I will order one of these 85mm lens. I already have the 50mm f1.2, 55mm f1. 2, 105mm f2. 5, and the 135mm 2.8. The 85mm f1. 4 together with the 35mm f1.4 are still missing. Wish me luck great video
Very nice video! I just bought a D700 and I am looking forward to take it out. I just took a walk with my D850 and my FE2 both equipped with a 105mm 2.5 AIS. I use many of the AI/AIS lenses for film and digital. Subscribed!
Back before I retired, I was shooting weddings and later model portfolios & street photography in NYC. My D3 and D700 were my tools. The D3 had a 100% viewfinder and two card slots. My D700 was a much lighter camera so when having to move a lot, it was fine. I used both often using 3D Focus Tracking but most Z cameras do not. My Z7 however is fine for long tele shots but rests most of the time in my equipment closet.
New video will be out in the next week, the D700 up against, D850, Leica SL2, Hasselblad x706 50c and medium format B&W film…. How well does the D700 do?
👍 (English translation) I sold my D700 recently and I think it has been one of the most bitter separations in my life. I will certainly return to her arms. Tnk.
Very nice demonstration and commentary. This year I was struggling to get the photos I wanted out a D7000 so I started looking for a replacement. It has treated me well for a long time but in low light it can't autofocus well and in high iso it looks terrible. After lots of research and planning, I chose a clean D700 for its replacement. The cost was lower than an entry level DSLR yet the images it produces are up there with the best mirrorless. As a matter of fact, when I run the JPEGs through a program that uses a.i to enhance the images, they come back looking nearly the same. There's nothing to enhance because they're already so good!
Glad you are enjoying the D700. It will have a long life in your hands, irrespective what you may get in the future. I have an endless choice of top cameras, yet I still enjoy grabbing my D700 from time to time.
The Nikkor 85mm f/1.4 auto focus D lens is my personal favorite portrait lens. One feature I really like is the 77mm filter size because I can use the same 77mm soft-focus filters on my 6x7cm medium format portrait lenses.
Great point. I have the Mamiya RB67. Yes 77mm filter thread. I haven't used the camera for over 30 years. Still have some Polaroid film. Will make a video on this soon. Thanks for watching the channel and commenting.
I have sold my nikon dslr a few years ago but now I am thinking of buying back a dslr nikon - which one would you suggest not too big not too heavy - thanks for your answer
Second hand I can consider up to eur 2000 - I still have a beloved F3 with some good old manual lenses - using them with an adapter and af lenses would be nice - af is more important - may be as you have a d700 or the famous d500?
@@robertoposa1120 : The D700 is a classic, however the D500, being newer, 2 card slots, faster, works perfectly with vintage Nikon and AF, FX (full frame) and DX (cropped sensor) lenses might be a better choice. You might find if FX becomes more important to you in the future you might add a Z-mount camera to complement the D500. Let me know what you decide. Cheers Peter
85mm is a great focal length. I do also have the AFS 105 1.4. I will do a video using this lens with both my D700 and D850. Hopefully will be interesting.
@@Adventure8 not everyone has that sort of money to experience new expensive gears. With the D700 you have access to some of Nikon old F lenses which are amazing and cheap 😊. I have a question in this video you have shots in really high ISO just wondering what was the highest you did before having too much noise?! Thx 🙏
@@Jack14432 Can't recall exactly, but from memory shooting up to 6400 ISO produced good results for me. Of course it does depend on the situation and personal preferences.
Will never get rid of my D700. Such a beast of a old camera, and the photos it takes are special to this camera only.
Agreed
Really enjoyed this video and stellar photography! I also own a D700 and I absolutely love it. 14 years later it’s still a more than capable tool!
Thanks for sharing!
Great content. Considering getting a Nikon D700. Impressed with the high ISO pictures you shared. Didn’t know that camera was capable of it.
Glad it was helpful!

Great pictures! Just got myself a Nikkor 105mm f2 DC to put on my D700. Results are amazing 😍
Great to hear!

Great camera love using it in manual mode with old vintage lens the pictures you get out of this picture box are very pleasing to the eye
Totally agree!
D700 classic camera creates beatiful colours and tones
I agree
It is such a pleasure watching you. If I were ever to do my own channel, you (along with a very few others) are going to be my role model
Wonderful to know you are enjoying the channel. Thanks for your support. Cheers Peter
Love my D700 and the images I get with 135/2.8, 55/1.2, 70-200/2.8D, etc. It’s color rendition is simply the best there is.

Love the d700. The 85mm I use is the older rokinon 85 1.4 with the gold ring and chip for auto exposure. Absolutely fantastic manual focus lens.

Any chance you'll ever do a review comparing the Leica M240 vs D700? Would be a fun comparison...
Good idea, I’ll start working on it

我也还在用D700,手动镜头的感觉实在太好。👍
Translation: I'm still using the D700. The manual lens feels so good.
👍
A very special camera.
Great video but just try to tone down the melody. Audio channel is off and your voice should be primary and music secondary.
Thanks for the tip
If someone says that I have to use one camera and lens till the end of time I’ll always pick the d700 with an 85 1.4 ais
Exactly
Both still good pieces of kit but I’d want focus peaking on that lens… 1.4D would be the beast to match that d700.
Yep, focus peaking is a great invention.
I feel like your GoPro little cam has the ability to auto adjust the horizon level to zero degree... hasn't it?? Looks super good overall. 😇
Yes the GoPro does have auto horizon level as one of its options. Thanks for watching.
Somewhere in new South Wales? Beautiful beaches!
MacMasters Beach, Central Coast, NSW, Australia of course
Nice video but you need to turn down the music volume when you are speaking
Noted. I think I'm better at mixing music in my recent videos. Thanks for watching.

@@Adventure8 yeah sure. Thanks
how do you compare 5D canon? Have you had experience? )
Canon 5D is wonderful. Next level up (newer) to the D700.
I still prefer DSLR but the reality that pains me the most is that manual lenses are 500 times easier to use on mirrorless cameras.
👍
Why would you move to mirror less when you can take great shots with this camera! The price is so cheap for the value offers.
You are absolutely right. Nevertheless, it always fun (and expensive) to try something new.
