Hey Kenny, when I try to change the input to 8 channel like you do at 1:30, I do not see the "Input 1 .. Input 8 [8 chan]" option. Nothing appears. Any idea why?
Do you have an 8-channel audio interface? If not you'll only have the number of channels your interface has (I think - I haven't tried this thing out yet!).
Amazing tutorial, so clear, thank you! The only problem I'm having is I'm not sure how to get my MIDI device to record live, rather than being a controller for start/stop/record etc - it seems to default to that, but really I need it to be able to record drums from the MIDI kit I've chosen?
Thanks for a great tutorial: finally I can actually use Super 8. Anyone know if there's a way to edit a sample after recording to a pad? EG, would be nice to be able to trim.
Haha yes! Amazing video though :) I just need to figure out how to get my MIDI to be a recording track (eg drums), rather than defaulting to being the start/stop/record controller... - Update - I managed to do this by creating new tracks for each MIDI device, then routing them over to the main Super 8 track!
can you customize which inputs are going into the super8? For instance i want to use inputs 1-4, and then ADAT inputs 5-8. Looks like you can only use like, a consecutive # of inputs...
Ok, i see it's probably possible. Once you convert it to a arrangement, I'm sure you can send those stems out through your interface. I'm interested because I like to mix through an analog board and capture a stereo track performance. Looks quite promising.
What if i have a 2 channel stardard interface?? How do I use VST with a midi keyboard in a way i can put a different vst instrument on each channel but control by the same keyboard and make it work with super 8?
Hi Kenny ! Many thanks for your tutorial. I'm playing live a doublebass solo. Reaper + super 8 looper + midi foot switch controler + multi out soundcard It works really great !!! I play live and sync off. With that i can freely choose the tempo and the lenght of my loops accordind to my mood. But is there a way to have loops playing together with different lenght ? Cheers !
Thanks for this great tutorial.. I do have scarlet with 2 inputs and oxygen midi keys. How do you setup the multi midi instruments for in super 8? Or is that resamplomatic?
This is just like loop recording over a section to build a part. But with loop recording you get all your takes. I get that there is some convenience, but you also lose access to detailed editing, like midi editing. So I kinda don't get it.
On the 1:31 there is the options to select from inpunt on to 37. On the new Reaper version I can't access that. I'm doing exactly as you told but I can't access this menu. After I click on the "Input: 8 channel" nothing happens.
great 👍thx 🙌 just to mention if it helps : in my version (7.19) the plugon doesn't appear when I search (cockos) however it's there when I search "super 8"
Awesome tutorials thank you. So I assume based on this video that you cannot record multiple layers in a single super 8 slot? As in, you cannot overdub? With a classic looper you would expect to be able to record multiple layers of audio and have the audio combine with itself every-time through.
You've probably figured it out by now, but for anyone else reading this you can do this. Once you punch out of the first loop, which defines the loop length, hit record to record over the top of the loop (including multiple passes) until you punch out again. Can do the same for other slots. Otherwise if you want to overwrite a loop slot you do it like Kenny did in the video, stop the loop playing and then hit record
Can you only make as many track as you actually have inputs on your etc focusrite? Because I have only 2 input channels on my focusrite 6i6. That means I only can make 2 looper, and one with just 1 input can make 1 looper, and not 8 loopers. Or I'm mistaking here?
In the plugin pin connector on the top right of the window. Assign all 8 channels of the plugin to the one input. And for the mono issue, assign outputs 1 and 2 for all 8 channels of the plugin. Basically a horizontal line on the inputs, and two horizontal lines on the outputs when you look at the plugin pin matrix.
Great tutorial! Btw The left speaker of your came out from my right in ear monitor headphones (SHURE SE215). You sure it didn't flip inside your mixer?

Hi Kenny, if I use only the guitar and register first a take (for example introduction), after registering other take (for example the first verse, the second verse, etc.) and I want to create a live arrangement with MIDI keyboard, how can I do? thank you for all.
Maybe use 3 slots on Super8 with the guitar input channel routed to each of the 3 slots (input 1 guitar to Super8 channels 1, 2 and 3), record your different takes per slot and then use the midi keyboard to arrange them with the corresponding play keys.
Oustanding tutorial ! Although i myself wouldn't use this plugin. I would have rather seen the ability to drop audio items (loops) onto slots, from Reaper Arrange view onto Super8 slots.
Hi, Kenny. Please i need some help. I'm trying to learn the CC from my controller to push the record button with Arturia Keylab MK2 but i can't find the way to. Can you or anybody help me ? Thanks by advance.
Only way I found is to have a pre recorded midi track routed to it with the record and playback notes quantized to the grid. I like to have an automated midi track do all the triggering for me, but if you still want to trigger you can just have the first loop done for you and do the rest of the triggering yourself with the latch on.
Hi, really helpful. Is it possible to map (change the default one) the midi recording note? I'm using an Akai and I would like to map a specific botton for recording. Thanks
How long can you make the bars in this looping pluggin? Does this come with Reaper? Also, can you send the loop outputs out of your interface through a mixer and capture the stereo track? Thanks.
Can you send the 8 loops out of the daw through a mixer and mix them in real time through the board and then back in to Reaper on a two track stereo track to capture that mix? Essentially can you loop infinitely and record that performance? I have 8 outputs on my A/D converter interface. Also, can you loop in realtime like on a loop pedal instead of bars/grids? Thanks! I'm interested in this software.
I have a question: Right at the beginning when you set the Input to "Input: 8 Channel" i cannot click it and dont get the option to select something. I think this might have something to do with that I only have parent channels 1-2 in the routing menu. I cannot choose 8 however like you have in your setup. What am I missing? Thank you!
I think it more has to do with the amount of inputs ones audio hardware has. It seems Kenny is using external audio through a 8 channel in audio interface. One can use VSTi's in reaper and route the audio out from them to Super8 and in stereo by linking Super8 audio slots and then routing them as required. I'm experimenting with Audio input 1 and 2 for Voice and Guitar and then using VSTi's but I'm only getting started and my head is exploding 🤣
Yes.
Can I change the inputs? I want to record an 8-part vocal by myself. I have one mic in input one. I've tried changing the inputs on tracks 2 onwards to mono source 1, to replicate what's happening in Input 1 track, but the signal won't get through to Super8 Looper. Is there something I can change in the 'Edit' box. I've looked in it, but the code there is beyond my understanding. Thanks.

I'm not sure if I understand that Latch Mode..There must be some simple way to assign "record" button from Reaper with keyboard (some shortcut), or with my Midi controller? This is a huge problem for me because whenever I want to create a loop, there's always part of silence (the time between I hit the record button with mouse, and start to play guitar after that), and it spoils the whole loop in the way I get that pause + music, then again the pause..music..Any advice? Txs

Kenny always Kenny, the Italiano most wonderful maestro del Reappero!!
Wow. I had no idea this functionality was lurking around in Reaper. A laptop and a keyboard and some talent is all you need.

Is there a way to lock to project tempo and use latch?
Is there a workaround for using vst instruments instead of relying on the interface outputs
Brian Martin I guess you’d send from a VSTi to the Super8 track
@@musicalsam1 This was the missing piece, thank you! :)

Gillette Wilkinson You could probably use a MIDI foot pedal like the Behringer FCB1010 or Keith McMillan Softstep or 12 Step.
