Horror fps is such a niche genre, I wish it was more of a thing, it's so badass... Just the idea of tactical guys going in to fight these eldritch horrors with human made firearms of all things.
This is definitely an interesting map especially the way the depicted the cult. They seem to recruit from women who have been abused and used the fact that they were wronged by the system to take advantage of their emotions.
All the Roman/Hellenic iconography inside a Californian vineyard gives me a lot of Wiccan vibes. A pale initation of a long-forgotten past, thousands of miles and years removed from it's source. twisted. corrupted. It's iconography used to suit their own ends.
this game has very good map design, though it's horror is very much of the "depraved deeps of human evil" like the "valley of the dolls" map which is utterly horrifying, but in a similar manner as to how Schindler's List is "the scariest movie ever made" despite not being a traditional horror movie. Though on that note, I'd like to say that when dealing with real world is the one time that 'unknown is scarier' does NOT apply, like if you remember that HBO Chernobyl series (which was trash in terms of historical accuracy, but that lack of faithfulness to reality isn't relevant to what I'm about to say) there is one scene where two characters go into Reactor chamber number 4 right after the failure and end up looking right into melting core and let me tell you, while the cinematography and instant sunburns convey enough that anyone can pick up on how what just happened was bad, I have to say that the folks who know nothing have nowhere as viseral a reaction as those who do to that scene.
The first horror oof the unknoown ive felt is knowing there's an achievement called 'The Devil' for using a secret command to tell your squad to kill you. Which makes me incredibly concerned as to what could happen on a mission to warrant such a thing
I think this may be the most beautiful map in almost any game I've seen. It is just so peaceful and serene, with a dusty sort of moody feel but surrounded by plants. It's just so comfy and rustic (The wierd statues and massive faces are also a plus) but I would love to live here.
When I finally completed this mission, my entire team had died, I had to clear the woods/church by myself, and I've never been more stressed in my life. The music that played when I saw the statue didn't help either😭
being a gear nerd I see that his team and probably himself is wearing some pretty retro gear. Considering modern standards, I'm left wondering if thats just the kit he likes or he's going for a nostalgic SWAT 4 vibe. Either way it was pretty jarring seeing that aging gear in a modern setting. (worlds smallest violin i know lol) P.s it by no means takes away from the atmosphere that the mission was trying to give off. I just used suspension of disbelief and said this raid took place around the 2012-2013 mark.
It's fun seeing someone deal with a cult in ready or not since it reminds me of my former hometown of Waco Texas. Do you guys think this is at all related to the story of Waco? The intro definitely made it sound like it takes inspiration from waco.
It was definitely meant to be inspired by the Waco incident. When Ridgeline was first released, people pointed out how it reminded them of Ruby Ridge, despite the circumstances of the call being very different. It certainly wasn't the first one to make me go "well that feels oddly familiar"
Call me weird for this but looking into the lore of the cult here, I understand some of where they are coming from. They are all abuse survivors who seek their own form of justice by ritualistically castrating and killing their perpetrators. As a CSA survivor, I can't say I condone, but I understand.
I have yet to see a ready or not that is not like parts of reality. This map just reminds me of the place I grew up in. It was a cult...and a few places I have crashed while getting my feet.....It was still fun to watch and listen to you play this.
One of the neat things about this mission is how some elements are there just to mess with you. In the last building there's a statue that makes noise that sounds like drum, and if you stare at it for too long you get ringings in your ears. None of that is present if you're spectating on headcam. Felt really creepy the first time I hear my friends say that and I'm not hearing anything.
What a great game. Kudos to the devs for making their environment so incredibly difficult to work with. Really makes it feel like it could be an actual cult-compound. Not that I'd know what one would look like, but I can imagine it'd be kind of like this
I've seen a lot of em do some bad stuff irl, like them hating men and overall just doing bad things rather than helping, I could definitely see the ones that do that join some group like in game if they go to far instead of maintaining peace.
Yeah, I think that descending to the level of men in history is the worst thing a feminist can do. You’re supposed to be a better person then the people who oppressed you, otherwise, what are you fighting for?
Dont worry about "breaking the pacing" by mirroring every door, there are missions like 'Ides of March, Briska Cove' where there's so many suspects and explosive-trapped doors that mirroring every door is a requirement to survive, not just being overly cautious. Some of these missions are difficult to do with bullets, and IoM is notorious for being near impossible to do non-lethally in singleplayer. (Non-lethal plus all optional objectives is the only way to S-Rank a mission).

I wish they made Elaine Raskin sound less cartoonishly evil. She has a very real greviance with society, she just arguably takes it too far. Maybe. Maybe not. But it would still make the mission more interesting if she was less cheesy sounding in that 911 call.
@@mw00295I assumed that most of their targets are shitbags, but they're a cult of crazy women that probably doesn't do proper research, and thusly has killed and will kill innocents among the guilty.
With regards to the AI and the subtly, those are my main two issues with the game as well. A lot of maps could do with a lot less STUFF. Like less wall writing, less evidence laid out in the open, less edginess. This map it definitely fits, along with A Lethal Obsession. It got kinda old once you get to Valley of the Dolls and Hide and Seek however.
If I weren’t a console scrub I’d be playing the hell out of this game like no tomorrow. That and Siege kind of lost the style of being somewhat more grounded after a point and it became another wacky hero shooter.

@@Dr_MafiaThey either forgot to add her or you’re correct. If I remember correctly her dead partner was male.
