    Quick correction: I believe each creature gets 4 traits max now and you draw 2 cards + number of creatures.

    I KS this expansion without having played the base game. I was hopeful it would be good. My wife and I got a chance to play the base game at a convention a few months ago. We loved it! My wife loved it so much she made me order all the addons for it from the publisher's website (flight, upgraded components, etc). We are very excited to get this game! :)

    As someone who KS'd the first edition and then the flight expansion (so I also got an upgraded deck with new food amounts), is the deck of trait cards in the upgrade kit for climate redundant or have there been further adjustments?

    • @crapuchettes
      @crapuchettes 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Conversion Kit does not contain the base game cards. It only contains the Climate cards. But you'll need to remove some cards from the base set for the game to work right.

    Caan't wait for my conversion kit. Evolution is a really great game. Flight expansion makes it even better.

  • @IvanGrimm1

    Will the conversion kit components fit in the original box?

      I got everything for Climate and Flight into the core box if you remove the insert. That includes all the Kickstarter cards. Even with all cards in sleeves and components in bags. The only think I did not get in was the special dinosaur climate boards.

    • @IvanGrimm1
      @IvanGrimm1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anyone try it with keeping the insert (and not having flight)? There extra designated space in the base box for additional cards. So really it comes down to the main climate board I think. The base game's insert had the original food token punchboards on top, will the climate board fit in that void?

    Maybe I missed this. Can you play Flight and Climate simultaneously? Are there replacement cards for the flight expansion?

    • @outlawlaw
      @outlawlaw 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe that rules for playing flight and climate together were provided during the kickstarter, with a caveat from the designers that they were never intended to be played together. So the answer (as far as I can remember) is yes, but there's an asterisk next to it.

      We miscommunicated when we said that Climate is incompatible with Flight. This is not true. Climate and Flight are fully compatible but they were not designed to be played together. Mixing them is likely to provide a less than perfect game experience and here’s why:
      Game Balance
      If you can’t reasonably expect to draw the type of card you need for the current situation within a couple of rounds, then the game turns into a “luck of the draw” game with a "run-away leader" problem. One example I like to talk about is Warning Call which protects 2 species. When you dilute the deck, you reduce the chances of an opponent being able to draw Ambush in a timely manner. This issue in compounded in Climate because there is a completely new type of threat that you have to deal with. On top of needing to draw cards to deal with starvation and predators, players have to deal with the climate. And dealing with the climate requires 4 different types of cards: protection from cold, protection from heat, moving the climate colder, and moving the climate warmer.
      Unique Experience
      Mixing all previous expansion together makes it increasingly difficult with each new expansion to provide a unique experience. At some point, 48 new cards will be such a small percentage of the environment that you won’t even notice the impact on game play. I want to make sure that every expansion we release provides a fresh experience.
      Theme
      Mixing all previous expansion together makes it exponentially difficult to provide a thematic experience. For instance, it is not very thematic for a species to have Flight and Climbing as two different traits. We were able to discourage that combo by giving Flight the ability to bypass Climbing, making it less useful to add Climbing to a species with Flight. It isn't possible to do this with a large card pool because it would require addressing tons of different traits in the card text. Our goal is to design thematic cards with the least amount of text possible.
      Enough Warning Talk! Now Tell Me How to Do it!
      Just to be clear, I don't recommend mixing drinking with moon bounces, I can see why it might be a lot of fun. That's how I feel about mixing Evolution expansions. And since I know people are going to experiment with it, I figure I should give my best guidance:
      First of all, I should mention something that will make you happy. I designed Climate from the start so that it would work if you play it with the Avian Species boards and the Cliff. In fact, I expect it to work really well together! This is because there won't be any dilution of the card mix (since you're not adding any cards) and because both the Cliff and the Climate Track were designed to create interesting decisions around the food supply. I'm also not worried about the impact to the environment because this element of Flight is self balancing: The benefit of Avian species diminishes as other players bring more of them into play. So go for it!
      If you want to go a step further, here is something else you can do. Remove 2 trait cards from Evolution: CLIMATE and add "Nesting" and "Brood Parasite". Which two should you remove? That's up to you. Just keep in mind that if you remove defensive cards then you will be playing in an environment more suitable to Carnivores.
      And finally, for those who like moonshine while riding roller coasters, feel free to exchange as many cards as you like on a 1 for 1 basis. Just keep in mind that the more you stray from the original card set the more wild and crazy the ride might become. If you aren't looking for balance... well moonshine and roller coasters is a great way to lose your balance. I'm sure you'll be coming back with some great stories. Please post them here and on the BGG. Cheers!
      And Now For Something Entirely Different...
      Catherine Hamilton has finished the art for Nocturnal. This card allows a species to feed at night, in between each of your day time feeding turns! "

    can there ever be three or more event cards on the board?

    • @vanJJTB
      @vanJJTB 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No. The only way a new event card can enter the game is by resolving the previous event card, so there are ALWAYS two event cards on the bord.

      I know there was some controversy that erupted during a previous review of the game by one of the other folks. Religious beliefs came into play. Honestly best not to delve into it too far again, as it got the comments turned off of that video.

      Heaven forbid there should be level discourse on the subject. That would be awful!

    • @KristopherMiller0
      @KristopherMiller0 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There literally was a level discourse on the subject before and people got too far into it and SAM BLOCKED THE COMMENTS. Why bring it up again? A boardgame channel is not the place to discuss religious matters.

    I would love to see more criticism on this channel. It just feels that you are giving "thumbs up" to lot of games and not utilizing the fact that you have a wide variety of people on this channel who like different kinds of games. I think that lot of games that are published on 21th century are very good, but it doesn't remove the fact that I like some of those great game more that others.

      They do have negative reviews. Here’s the problem. There are more games released in a year than they have the capacity to review. As a result they have to be selective in what games they will invest time into playing and reviewing. The Dice Tower crew have played so many games they can pretty much tell what they will like just by reading the rules. Tom Vassel has stated it isn’t valuable use of time to play and review a game they know they will not like just for the purpose of creating a negative review.
      There are dozens of board game review channels. If you find your opinion of a board game differing from what you see on Dice Tower, find a reviewer whose preferences in board games align with your own. The point of a game review is to help the viewer make a purchase decision, not to put out negative content just for the sake of having negative content.
